Also is the new yojimbo gate not just typhon gate anyway? Just stand somewhere and avoid his sneeze (sorry slashes, it is yojimbo after all)
Presumably the Yojimbo one will allow movement and therefore be a test of dodging attacks, similar to Bardam's 2nd boss except presumably without any second chances (get hit once and you're out)
Because anyway the wind blows has an achievement and people would throw a fit - see diadem thread
At this point it is kinda sad that all of the original GATES except Cliffhanger have been removed. I think they should just make all the old GATES regular attractions that can be done any time for a smaller payout instead of just flat out removing them altogether.
Said this the first time the event came around, but the haunted house we have currently for the Halloween event? Perfect for a Gold Saucer attraction. For starters, it mirrors the haunted house section in Final Fantasy VII perfectly. The actual event there is ideal for an instanced GATE I think, too. Skinchange we can Believe in would also be a fitting attraction for that section of the Gold Saucer, given it involves Imps and Glamours, just like the house in the current event.
Have it as its own offshoot zone, with its own rotation of GATEs. Would allow us to have more variety in what GATEs we can do, for example Cliffhanger could be going on in the current zone, while Skinchange is going on in the haunted house zone. You pick which you'd rather do. Ideally have it so they alternate type, so if there is an instanced GATE in one zone, the other has a non-instanced GATE going on. That way there is always a GATE for people who don't want to drop out of their DF queue.
I don't know why they would ever remove GATEs. They shouldn't have removed Vase Off, either. Within the first patch cycle of a new GATE releasing, up its frequency so that people get to experience it; afterward, set them all at equal frequency rates for the ones available from :00, :20, and :40 windows. I mean, is variety ever really a bad thing in this scenario?
I never see anyone doing Skinchange so that might be why. That said I do wish they wouldn't remove any of them. That's just counter productive to making the MGP grind actually tolerable.
Any Way the Wind Blows and Cliffhanger (Round Square and Wonder Square versions) were both in the original GATE releases.
Time of My Life likely was dropped due to the number of different Races and the limited number of spots on the Main Stage. During HW and SB the males and females of one random race ended up dancing on the hanging stage which made them difficult to spot and watch. Viera and Hrothgar (and their opposite sex versions if added in the future) would have just make things even worse.
Vase Off was always one of the more unpopular ones due to the original version having a random reward based on number of Vases given and how finicky the the NPCs' detection could be based on server tick.
I suspect that Skinchange We Can Believe In is getting removed based on visibility issues and inconsistent difficulty. When the best chance of success involves taking screenshots console players end up a bit disadvantaged.
I wonder if there's a programmed maximum number in their coding that they have to work with, or something. Is it always "one in, one out" when they introduce new GATEs?
I'm definitely going to miss this one though - it was usually very quick and easy. No need to go through the fiddly menus, just run around in first person mode and identify the differences. I'd literally spend about two seconds on each NPC.
There are a few tricky ones of course, but usually it's straightforward.
I liked Time Of My Life too. It was a bit dull to play, but good for seeing the emotes of all the different races, and I'd worked out that I could follow the Miqo'te girl if the Midlander was missing.
Also, Any Way the Wind Blows is partly a matter of working out where to stand. There are places that are less likely to get hit.
Skinchange was the only one I'd ever skip.
Well ... "skip". I'd just run up to the closest NPC, and claim they were the imp.
Before that, I'd skip the dance-off, solely because it would take 5 minutes.
Vase Off was great though. So easy and rewarding. Kind of miss that one.
Skin change sucks.
I miss Vase Off though. We need more opportunities for sneaking missions.
Typhon gates has Achievments, but tbh i don't know why every single time a new gate comes out they cancel another one. My favorite was that one where you had to do Emotes on the stage and that one you had to find 3 NPCs doing Stealth throught Gold Saucer, both Gates are gone right now.
That's because Skinchange is awful and wastes the most time out of all GATEs out there.
Skin Changer and Airforce One only two liked and did at Gold Saucer. They should just got rid any way wind blows. Gold saucer is dead and never hardly see anyone there doing gates. Thought they was going to add blitz ball to Gold Saucer. what is problem getting rid one that gives rewards there getting rid of Garo rewards from pvp. To me gold saucer was a waste of resources that could been used else where.
I don’t think Gold Saucer is dead. I always see people doing them.
I do hate that they remove some games, though. I did stop doing Skin Change, but other people still did it. I liked Vase off as the path was real easy and quick way to make MGP. The emote one was fun, even though it took me a while to see how it’s played.
The one that annoys me now is the Airplane one. I make 1 mistake and lose out on 1000 MGP. I wish the number you get at the end is what you get as MGP. It bugs me to continue after messing up just to get 3000 MGP no matter how many I get at the end. I hate continuing after a mistake.
My favorite is Wind Blows. I usually win 75% of the time as I found a good sweet spot a few years ago after studying the hit spots. A ton of MGP is worth playing this one.
Leap of Faith is my 2nd favorite. I like jumping puzzles.
I glad they remove skinchange, it's just a bad designed gate
For real? Skinchange is one of the the fastest GATEs there is. The NPC differences are highly predictable (jewelry, gloves, boots, facial hair/markings.) The differences are almost always one of those few things. Usually just requires a quick glance at the NPC and then 20 seconds running around in a circle to find the only one with a matching beard.
I still wish they could find a way to have multiple GATEs going on at once like a true amusement park. Then there wouldn't be a need to exclude some of the ones we do/used to enjoy. Ah well, one can dream.
I'll never understand the XIV communities obsession with removing content content they personally don't like... Don't like Skinchange? Sure, I actually agree with you on that. Does that mean it should be removed though? Hell no, there are people who do enjoy it... This game doesn't, and shouldn't cater to a single type of player... A wide breadth of content types is only a good thing for an MMO... The glee some people seem to take when some content is deleted, or otherwise gutted, and the consistent calls to remove certain forms of content (looking at you, PvP) is just bizarre to me...
I always hated Skin Change, too much effort in it to get a small amount of MGP compared to the rest. Other gates were much faster, unless you only signed up and guessed the first NPC you saw. Personally feels like it only existed because of when the gold saucer was added, back during the days we had PS3 players.
They're finally doing more exciting gates, each new one they add seeming to have some kind of achievement. Though Airforce One I won't play again due to it being the ONLY gate that still disconnects me, and when reporting it I've been told that it hasn't happened to enough players to warrant anyone to look into it basically.
Skinchange was a nice little nod to the "dropped item" airship quest in FFXI, but after the reminiscence died off, it quickly became my most hated GATE.
Maybe I just suck, but I'm not capable of just taking a quick look and quickly being able to identify the perfect matching NPC as soon as I see them. It's more like looking over all five of the NPCs to try to find the elements that are different, then looking over all five of the NPCs and the original again to actually identify the correct one. It usually takes me about 3-4 minutes.
I won't miss it much.
Because every time Skinchange shows up, it means one less GATE they actually enjoy doing. There's only three of them per hour.Quote:

If they keep taking away gates some players like then Gold Saucer is going keep having less and less people in it. Every time go there maybe I will see 20 people and most of those is afk. They really need to have more than one gate up at a time.
I don't like the fact that every time I'm in the GS, I only see the instanced GATEs... I'm happy that Jimmy isn't one of them, but I also wish other "open world" GATEs like Cliffhanger occurred more often than Leap of Faith or Air Force.
Before instanced GATEs became a thing Gold Saucer was my go-to place for passing the time while I was waiting in queues. Now I have no reason to go there except to do my Fashion Report and trade in cards once a week.
Air Force One is okay, but doing it on a controller gives a clear disadvantage against doing it on a mouse. There's also the fact that it's instanced. Despite not hating AFO, I still don't do it often because the goal of hitting all targets is too difficult with a gamepad. Can still get max points, but trying for the achievements isn't enjoyable.
I'm going to miss Skinchange. It was easily my favorite GATE. I knew after they removed Vase Off to put another in that Skinchange had an expiration date on it, but I hoped it wouldn't actually happen. At least Leap of Faith and Cliffhanger are fun, I guess.
For real, I got a PERFECT eventually, but my goodness was it a chore.
And its always at that "Bonus" part at the halfway mark that things get stupid and chaotic. You have to pretty much spam the fire button to hit the targets, but if you spam too much then you get a bomb. Its an uphill battle that feels like it was designed to make controller players fail.
I do not understand why we cannot have simultaneous GATE at the same time if they do not occurs at the same place.
Some GATE only take 2min to be done (or less) and need to way 18min for the new (which could also be done in a few minute). The biggest issue for me is that for some GATE if you are not here before it start you cannot do it at all (currently only Ultros but before we had the Emote stuff). So you can go in Goldsaucer at Xh06 and have not GATE to do because you were late and miss the start.
The less popular GATE (or removed GATE) could be activate in parallel like: Vase off + Ultros (not same location, Ultros can be missed easily if you miss the start), Emote+ Skinchange (same). In order that you can do at least one GATE if you go in gold saucer at any moment (and at most 2 GATE if you go at the start of a window GATE time).
But maybe they do not want people to earn too much PGS (but for a new player there is already so much to buy, and for old player the new items added are more and more costly like the last expansive mount).
Oh that is my pet peeve. It happens way too often. I’ve started to actually wait for them to spawn before I shoot, but I have to be super fast or I’ll miss some and still lose out on 1000 MGP. I also play in controller. I have 5 more perfect scores to get the last achievement.
I do like Any Way The Wind Blows but Vase Off, Skin Change, and Time of My Life are the other gates I've enjoyed. I haven't been to the Gold Saucer in awhile though. Change itself rarely bothers me, I'm pretty easygoing, but the one thing that can upset me a little in a game is having content I regularly utilized and found fun removed.
Moving away from "because it's bad/not fun", I'm sure the devs have analytics that let them know which GATEs are done the most. New GATEs get added and, if you have too many in the pool, getting to participate in a particular GATE becomes more difficult. When something has to get removed to make space, naturally you're gonna get rid of the thing no one's using.
Anecdotally, as others have mentioned, I rarely see anyone doing Skinchange, so it wouldn't surprise me their metrics showed them it was the least engaged.
