Even though WoW only has two storage locations for crafting materials, they're combined in the crafting interface, so you can make stuff no matter where the materials are stored.
This feature was added in 2014 I think.
FFXIV has many different storage locations, and I often spend 30+ minutes before beginning the gathering phase searching my inventory for items and dragging them into my primary storage.
We could really use this here, but I suspect it would be such a coding mess that it would blow the game up if they tried to add it :)
One crafting feature SE needs to borrow from WoW..

I would love this as I just finished capping gathering and have materials everywhere. Just started working on my crafting and it's a pain searching and digging to find what I need to use.

Inventory management is really poor, everything that has something to do with retainer should get QoL update.
If you craft you need to :
1. right click -> search this item
2. summon your retainer
3. dang, you forget in which slot the items is so you right click -> search the item again.
4. right click at the 2nd ingredients, ohh its on the other retainer.
5. repeat no. 1-3
now the only way i can make it a little bit faster is by opening notepad and write down every ingredients. but i believe i shouldnt do that.
selling things is also a pain in the ass, but its a different story. -

Better yet the material storage unit from Guild Wares 2. SE has done this with shards, crystals, etc and it is very effective. Having a material storage unit so that all crafting materials go into a specific inventory slot in the material storage would rock. But, besides the work to tack this onto an already existing system, my wager is a great many dollars are brought in by crafters who have extra retainers added to their subscription.

I agree, pull from ANYWHERE (also if the Recommended Gear button could look everywhere also..)
Don't forget the /isearch command. Find where your stuff is quickly.
