I would love to have SE replace Repose with Cleric Stance, make all Role Actions matter. Repose is a waste, cant sleep anything that matters and AOE's are common now. the rate on Status effect in FFXIV are slowly going away, unless your an enemy. Might as well let us chip in on killing mobs and bosses quicker, healers who do both would appreciate it.
AND PLEASE MAKE IT MATTER. 5% for 15sec with a 90sec recast wont cut it for SCH and AST, WHM would benefit from it though. Maybe Cleric Stance could have different affects for each healer and improve where they lack from other healers "WHM"

I think it's mainly meant to help with solo stuff, since healers can easily get overwhelmed with lower damage output and defense, at least in earlier content, anyway.

They could remove it but they made it into a required spell for the lvl80 role quest for Healers so they'd have to rework that and, well, I just don't see them altering Repose as a result. I'm sure in 6.0 they'll throw Fluid Aura into Role skills as well though so there's that to look forward too.

Honestly, these threads kind of confuse me in general. If you want cleric stance back, why not just make a "bring back cleric stance" thread? Removing repose seems to have nothing to do with it. I'm pretty sure the reason we don't have cleric stance in Shadowbringers isn't because the developers really wanted to put it in but decided they only had room for six role actions and repose was just more important.

WHM is big on GCD abilities and personal DPS. So with every GCD you're either healing or attacking, but usually not both. Both versions of cleric stance worked by creating a "damage window" of sorts, either stance- or cooldown-based, and that kind of thing can work well with WHM since it already separates healing and DPS.
Scholar, though, tends to heal and DPS at the same time, weaving oGCD heals with GCD damage spells. It also---at least before Shadowbringers---did a lot of its damage with DoTs, which again was concurrent with healing because the DoTs could just keep running while you healed.
Basically, SCH has traditionally been more about management and planning, in contrast to WHM's focus on big bangs of healing and damage. Cleric stance, to me, would just push SCH more in the direction of WHM.
Astrologian, meanwhile, just has less use for a personal damage boost since a lot of their DPS comes from buffing other people's damage. -

Yes, it's not useful in your standard wall to wall dungeon pull where you then aoe burst everything down. But most abilities aren't. We could cull probably 90% of healer abilities and be fine for dungeons still. -

I'm very take it or leave it with repose, and most role skills besides Swift and lucid, tbh. I found it funny that the one singular role quest required it (and I actually encountered a glitch in that quest too), and then after that quest immediately took it off my hotbar. If they removed repose and have me something better in exchange for it, something that I would constantly use and wouldn't only be for niche content, sure, why not, but I see no reason they couldn't just add another role action instead of removing it. Or they could remove, don't really care either way.

I think Repose would be perfect if it was an Instant Cast Spell. It could be used while moving to stave off death when you're being chased by an angry mob after a tank dies and also be effective as an alternate Stun or Silence since most enemy abilities take longer than one GCD to activate giving you enough time to sleep them before it goes off. The Instant Cast Time would also help differentiate the skill from Black Mages because right now it just seems like a terribly inferior option to what they can do, and it still would be but less so.

Making Repose a role skill was one of the smarter choices for skill changes. But I question why Sleep is still BLM exclusive. And please no one mention that one quest, SE can adjust things to offset the need for the spell in certain quests. Kinda like Lustrate in that one SCH quest.

When you find out and you use it... every other instance of an ability being used in such a manner it was either given to you or provided as a duty action, but no healers get to keep theirs and it's their reward. We will likely never see a damage buff for healers because we all got too good at the game and healers should heal not damage it's not like the game ever requires any job regardless of role to do damage...Quote:

So, I want to address this from two ends.
One is that Repose, Sleep, and most other Crowd Control abilities don't really have a place in the majority of PVE content outside of solo-questing in the overworld. Mass-pulling is such a prevalent strategy that any kind of easily-broken CC would be virtually pointless in the current meta if it were even reliably effective against dungeon mobs, and that's ignoring raid content where there's no space to deploy it. CC abilities are generally just outdated.
However, I don't mean for this to be construed as support for a suggestion to just remove CC-type skills altogether. Rather, I would like to see more content emphasize the use of these abilities (like locking down powerful key mobs before they get to the group or clearing a path through an oncoming wall of bodies, for instance), or perhaps even have their effectiveness be addressed in a manner that would make their use more prevalent (like having a reasonable chance to break on damage rather than near-certainty, or allowing DoTs to not break it).
A lot of which is stuff that was previously available to CC abilities or part of dungeon encounters, but got stripped away in later expansions. Imagine that.
Second, is that just making Repose a role action feels like a missed opportunity to emphasize each healer's individual identity. For instance, in place of Repose, we could have Astrologians casting Stop on targets and Scholars casting Toad, each bearing its own dis/advantages versus Repose (ie Stop makes the target immune until it ends but can't be broken by damage either, Toad significantly weakens the target's attacks and blocks all abilities/spells/skills but still allows them to be moved, maybe have Repose also knockdown the target if it breaks early, etc).
Note that this needn't necessarily impede Repose's position in the current 80 Role quest. A Stopped target could have a helmet put on them just as easily as a Sleeping one, and you could always put a helmet over a Toad (like a cup over a spider) that they'd be forced to grow into when the transformation ends.
This could also open unique possibilities for additional healers later to have their own CC tools rather than just recycling the same one, like tossing in fear or mind-control effects.
Because at the end of the day, healers really don't have a lot to do in the first place between their very basic offensive rotations and the availability of far more healing tools than they need, and it would be better for the game to have CC tools that work than to keep taking tools away just to emphasize having healers do more damage. -

Years ago I played Lord of the Rings Online, and that game had a lot of raid encounters where CC was crucial. I think SE could easily create some encounters where Repose / Sleep would be required, if they wanted to.
E.g. there was once a wave of adds in a raid encounter. One of the adds had a lot of health, too much to quickly kill him off. But, after some seconds he would cast an aura that would give all the other adds a huge damage buff, that would most likely result in a wipe because of the incoming damage. So you had to sleep that one mob, kill all the other adds first, and then kill the buffer-mob at last so he hadn't any adds left to give them the damage buff.
I think, since it is now a shared skill, you can design a raid encounter knowing that the healers will have that skill ready. SE could really use it and build a few encounters around the use of repose / sleep. I would love to see that. -
