Maybe people got bored of WoW classic? I dunno...
but I sure am glad you're seeing new little sprouts
than the Bot Legion that's been going around lately lol.
WoW exodus again? at the same time, Shadowbringers has created a lot of new interest for the game, along with the trial allowing people to level up to 35
Probly wow, classic's hype is dying down other than the die hard fans, and bfa is still really bad so they just come here haha, at least thats why i came back
Can it just be that these are people from other games, or simply that FFXIV is their very first MMO, and not some kind of WoW exile wave you all immediately assume?
Its probably just another wave of advertising out getting people to play
They've been doing new player promotions at all the games conventions they've been going to recently, giving away starter editions of the game. I wouldn't be surprised if those are the primary source of all the sprouts.
Well wherever they are coming from let's make them feel welcome!
Nier collab calling yoko fans... i think
The "no longer a sprout" threshold has been raised to completing all of Stormblood (including patches) since Shadowbringers came out. So it's possible that there are just relatively more sprouts because the same number of people have the status for longer.
Did leveling roulette on my DRK yesterday, got matched with 3 sprouts. Checked their stats. Highest level was 40. So, there are definitely people who only started playing recently.
My guess is that they come from Gil farmers and RMT dealers.
I recently lost my “sprout” status too.
I lost my sprout after reaching Crystarium in Shadowbringers.
I had my sprout status for a long time since I was doing other things like leveling my crafters instead playing through the story.
If I level Botanist enough, I can keep sprout forever.
You see, when a mommy sprout and a daddy sprout love each other very much.....
I'm still a sprout in the game. Is there a way to keep my sprout so people won't judge me?
you will lose your sprout status after a certain amount of hours have been reached in your total playtime.....if i remembered correctly
Might be a lot players is bored and created new alts to play till 5.1 comes out. Not sure how you loose your sprout have alt that's finished sb from arr and still has a sprout after having it for 3 years. Can remove it if you belong to a fc and go into profile then pick a different status like rp or busy.
It's the only MMO on PS4 that is worth playing and my friend refuses to assimilate to the PC Master Race. I really suck at the dungeons and trials though. I think I have a mental block to them and, after a month or so of playing, it still doesn't compute that they don't give you much in the way of clues as to what you're supposed to do so I should probably watch a video so I'm not as bad. But I just keep hitting the DF up like I know what I'm doing and staring in horror thinking "wtf is happening on my screen" most of the run. Fun times. Friend just laughs at me. So, sorry to whoever gets grouped with me. I go in blind and being bad on top of that is a recipe for disaster. You people have been very patient and tolerant of my awfulness so thanks for that.
Anyway, yeah, I'm here until the 7 remake and Cyberpunk.
I'd say WoW. Last I heard my old WoW guild on retail had to cancel raiding for the month due to no activity and were excited when they had 8 players online at once in the evening one day. I felt rather sorry for them. It's not the first time either, I remember many periods in WoW where I would be the only one online. In FF14 we have end-of-patch quiet time but we're still getting full groups for FC EX runs and events.
WoW might have more subscribers, but they're spread over many, many servers and most just log on twice a week to raid. It feels more dead over there than FF14.
Shadowbringers is amazing too in terms of story and MSQ. A lot of players out there are still just learning that.
I am at the very Stormblood beginning (still waiting for my cousin in Heavensward to catch up but I start getting into it myself now) I think right before the first Stormblood dungeon and I am not a sproud nor could I select it in the list. When did that change happen? Or is the amount of playtime also a thing?
I remember that I had to de-select the sprout several times in Heavensward but it came back after relogging or after a dungeon if I remember correctly. But since Heavensward it is gone and never came back. Even right now, I should be a sprout according to you two, but nope..?

I can remember when I finally bought Stormblood in summer 2018, my character was automatically given sprout status back until I had completed the 4.0 MSQ at which point it was removed again. It seems to be tied to some combination of played time and MSQ progression, with the played time amount increasing with each new expansion release. You can lose the status if you have enough played time even though you haven't completed the currently available MSQ.
You can try to enable it again by typing /nas on
If you don't meet the requirements for New Adventurer, you'll get an error message stating the status isn't available to you.
I came here from WoW. I've always loved the Final Fantasy franchise, but I didn't want to commit to more than one MMO. Battle for Azeroth has been the perfect time to jump ship -- it's truly dreadful.
Been playing an old character of mine lately, had the returning adventurer tag for awhile, that fell off and I guess I'm a sprout again even though I lost the sprout tag years ago. /shrug
