Suggestion: Mogstation Items and Availability

Dear FFXIV devs/team

I recently came to notice that many items available on the mogstation are sold for individual characters only. Given that these are digital goods, and many cost as much if not more than the monthly subscription, it makes no sense to lock these items to one character within an already paying account. All items with few exception, should be available account wide. This is simply a matter of ethics over greed. It is perfectly fine to make money, specially given the good content released. However, please be respectful in return to your paying customers.

Suggestion:
Please make all/most mogstation item/cosmetics available for the account, not just one character.

this has an explanation - there are limited amount of account wide digital keys that can be assigned. they have to carefully balance which items they decide to make account wide vs. character only.

This explanation doesn't really make sense. In terms of database management, whether the value is 0 or 1, it still takes a space to denote whether you have said item or not. In fact, one could argue that making items character specific is actually more complicated than just unlocking it for your account as a whole. Given the sheer amount of characters you can create, the amount of inventory space/retainers etc etc etc for each character. Limiting cosmetic gear to be character specific is simply a move motivated by greed, rather than technical limitations.

I think if people speak up and explain that this is not okay, it is likely to change.

Sadly, we’ve been speaking up and asking for change. Nothing has come of it yet. A friend of mine made a thread about this a whole back. I’ll link it if I can dig it up.

As for the account keys, I find it a weak excuse at best. Considering when they first announced the change to OST and Artbook minions going from account-wide to single character only, they also put 3 account-wide mounts in the cash shop not too long after they made that change and announced the limited digital item keys as an issue.

excuse or not it's the explanation we have - we don't know how their backend coding works.

Fully agree, its pretty unacceptable state of things. I voted the other post up and will bump it as well.

The only thing we can do is keep making noise on the issue and hope that it gets noticed. I sent the FFXIV a twitter message as well.

YES!!! I would love to have all of my outfits on each of my characters! I think it's kind of ridiculous that I don't have access to content that I paid for on each of the characters that I am also paying for...

Even just having the Mogstation aesthetics be server-wide would be an upgrade for sure.

The main problem with this is how they compensate people who have already bought multiple character-items for the same account. Game time? 1-1 compensation in limited mogstation hard-discount? Is extra compensation as thank-you/sorry necessary? etc.
As a very large company, they need to be mindful of such politics.
Logistically, unless the change is "dire", it's unlikely they will push for prompt action to address these problems. They are very busy.
And finally, such changes especially having to do with real money, are 99% more sensitive than simply improving something in-game, for example. They have to ensure no exploits, bugs, etc.

So while it's straightforward for us, it probably haunts Yoshi-s nightmares in how he'll have to explain this change to the board.

A lot of games offer items at one price for a single character, and at a slightly higher price to get them account-wide. That could be a solution here. The single-character version would continue to exist, so there would be no change to players who already bought it.

(Of course, there would be players upset they bought the "worse" version before knowing a better option would be available later, but that's effectively no different than someone disappointed they spent money on outfit A before knowing outfit B that they find better looking would be available later. What's available is going to keep changing, but you make purchase decisions based on what's currently available.)

If they make items account wide, then people who bought items for a single character, would then also gain access to those items on other characters as well. No loss to the players who bought prior. And no loss to SE either.

If people bought multiples of the same items, then they could simply either give a hard refund or store credit of some kind, game time, or some other form of compensation.

Probably something to do with how accounts are coded for promotional items.
Like when Fantasias first came out if you bought the one, five, ten pack, or all of them, they each show up on the list of other promotional items you've earned for your account.
