Has the WoL actually taken a DoM job in any of the trailers? In HW he was a dragoon and StB a monk, and even when he changed through jobs in ShB I don't think he ever was a magic user. Are we not getting any showcase in the trailers as DoM?

*refuses to step out Leylines throught the entire trailer*
Remember the WoL had companions in past trailers that covered BLM. On their artwork, let's call her... Renda-Rae of the source was dressed as a RDM. That would leave SMN available if they ever want to represent the WoL with a DoM job. (inb4 BLU. No)
I don't play SMN myself but I would love to see them as the job showcased for an expansion, because then they would get a lot of attention that they desperately need to make the job functional and fun to play. Or at least finally figure out what they want the job to actually play like.
Making the next focal job SMN would be neat, especially if the game could lean on that for some of the lore of the expansion and what was told from ShB. Showing off maybe a new tier of summoning or something, maybe a hidden message saying "leave us alone finally, please, we have children, we want to sleep" lol. Dyvid's been coming up with the idea of Tempus, or a new Demi, maybe some pretty new Egi Glamours (I'm fond of the idea of egi tiers even if just a glamour concept, like Aion's Summoner had what basically amounts to egi ranks and the last rank looks like a real beast.
Though I'd love to see a cutscene where a Black Mage refuse to move and a healer needs to cast recuse to take them out of their leylines :3. Maybe the full scene is the party gathering around while Paladin casts their wings out and Black Mage is off in the corner dropping off mega sparkles and healer drags them in screaming xD.
The real question is when will we be able to change jobs mid-combat like the WoL can.
I see now. Sorry, the comment about Renda-Rae was what made me turn my head, although that's the first time I'm seeing that particular image lol
The view of a Warrior type of hero is iconic, there is a reason most depictions are of combatants who specialize in close combat.

Mind you i have often thought of that this next expansion should showcase a Healing job due to just how badly Healers were treated in this one.
However i don't see it happening. I'm not say it shouldn't, just that my limited ability/ imagination does not see any the the current jobs not of the melee persuasion as spotlight/ showcase jobs. Just saying, it's the Warrior of Light, not Mage of Light. The closest we'll get is probably Red Mage or something new...
However i hope i'm wrong.
Probably just my heavy bias talking here (really want it) but I feel a transformation job could check all the visual boxes really nicely too. I mean a summoner (as referenced earlier in the thread) I think could potentially as well since in a vague sort of way they're similar (calling forth something different/not similar own image, also they could potentially fit the lore very well like dragoon to HW).
Both SMN and a transformation job could play with that overwhelming image that suddenly changes odds drastically, summons because.. summons (which can use both magic and melee logically) and of course transformations which could also be a mix of magic and melee. Also the later has potential to touch upon some Terra Bradford and Vincent FF references.
Though honestly I'm probably just trying to fit it in now lol. Transformation job go go SE gooooo. :3. We've so many mechanics and themes but that one is untouched so far, so adding it would be quite new (Also I want to see some transformations by FF's awesome artists- also unchained, at least the later forms being impressive and intimidating).
Also you could do some flash back quotes to "become what you must" ;).
Okay... so.. probably just crazy, but we all know how Black Mage is Yoshida's bae, he loves that job... Is it just me or does it vaguely look like that's him in there? lol. XD
I think the problem with casters and why they only appear as support in trailers is that they're to stationary.
Even RDM is 70% standing still and casting. Meanwhile the other jobs can move and attack.
I feel like RDM has a decent shot at being one of the next cinematic jobs. It fits a theme of balancing light and dark, which would fit an expansion after Shadowbringers, and has a lot of impressive flourishes to make a flashy cinematic. Though they might just go Paladin to go for that Cecil feel.
Given where we'll most likely going to in 6.0....
....the WoL in the trailer will probably become a Gunbreaker.
my guess would probably be Ninja

this i assume but clearly its Nyelbert
The real question is when we going to see a video with WOL fishing then gets attacked by fish he just caught.
I really don't like the "generic lone hero" they use for the trailers. I feel like they should have stuck with the party of adventurers from 1.0, it just makes so much more sense in the context of an MMO. Plus, if the purpose of using the all-default-settings male Hyur preset is to allow as many people as possible to self-insert into the protag's shoes, that's a failure too because we all know what the REAL meowster race is n_~
90% of Hyurs are Limsa gold sellers, prove me wrong XD
And I've never been able to relate to the jobs they've picked so far either. It became especially obvious to me how disconnected I was from the marketing's target demographics during the latest Rising event, when all the clones of my character in job gear from past trailers started appearing around me and my immediate reaction was "oh look, it's all the jobs I don't play". That scene probably had the opposite effect on me than intended.
Having a party of stand-in player characters instead of a single protagonist would at least cast the net a little wider. But... ultimately it doesn't matter to me that much. I'm already playing the game and planning to play the next expansion and however many after that until I burn out and/or get bored soooo there's no real reason to market any trailers at me.
