What is your "heal them up" point?

What is the point where you decide to start healing up your party members? That is, what's the HP threshold you'll wait for before you decide to pop your heals on the tank or other party members? Personally, if they dip below half health, I'll pop an Aldoquium then Lustrate or maybe a Physick or two if I'm synced below Lustrate level to get them back up to a decent HP count. If they survive to the end of the fight, auto-heal will handle the rest.

As a side note, I've heard tell of the idea that you're supposed to wait til there's one hit of damage left in their HP bar before you start healing them. I believe this is mainly the case for Savage content? I've never really seen it done myself and I don't consider myself a good enough judge of damage to do it myself.

Big pulls from the tank, 60%. The lower the level the more constant the Cures. Single pulls... ha. They get a regen and that's it.

It depends on how spiky the damage intake looks, as well as what I would be casting if I weren't healing them.

But I usually have around a 75% threshold. Which is higher than it needs to be, but I like to be cautious.

It depends, but in general I usually let regen and divine benson do my work for me so I can dps more, and then when the tank gets to around 50% I'll start using instant casts like tetragramaton/aflictus solis or however it's spelled to use up as little time healing as I can so I can dps. I use assize liberally for mostly DPS purposes.

If the tank is pulling wall to wall I'll use asylum and cure 2 spams along with the stuff I said above.

For trials and raids, I'll use medica 2 as much as I can without sacrificing MP and dps, as having it up constantly is unnecessary and wastes MP.

I heal people when they 1) have too few hit points to survive the next mechanic, and 2) current hots (if any) will not enable them to survive the next mechanic. Anything more than this is a waste.

Depends on class really. On whm it's no really a percentage but when the mobs start resisting holy. For sch. It's 50% to pop the first indom. then 75ish for the rest.

Dungeons: About 50%, less if I know they're not going to take too much spike damage.

Raids/Savage: I don't heal unless the next raid wide or tank buster will kill someone.
Eden 3 savage is a good example. After breaking the side platforms and using his AOEs, Leviathan will continue auto attacking the tanks until he leaves for his divebombs. The tank can go as low as 20k hp, or about 15% without me having to heal them.

Depends on the content, healer and what cooldowns i have left.

For Dungeons:
If i play SCH i will Art of War and let the tank drop to 50 % for excog and try to keep him over 50% after that.
As WHM i tend to holy spam and let the tank drop lower. If bene is available, he will drop to around 20% before i hit bene. After that his hp will bounce between 30 and 70 %.

For Trails:
I tend to not let ppl stay on low health, because in pugs ppl usually don´t avoid aoes that good.
As SCH i will shield before AOE dmg and hope my coheal has enough aoe heals (whm op) to bring the grp up.
As WHM i will just press 1 of my 1000 aoe heals after dmg went out to put the grp to 80%+ hp.

Depends on the content but my rule if thumb is, if my strongest heal crits and that would overheal than it's too soon. Most of the time that happens below 40ish %. If I'm playing ast even 10% is still manageable due to ED.

Tank: whenever I think I won't overheal.

Meaning when I know I'm going to use Benediction, I let the tank dip lower. When I know I'm going to shield the tank and he already has regen and asylum, then I'll be casting holy and let regen+asylum do the work.

Everyone else: when I know they are going to take more damage, such as known party-wide boss AOEs.

I mean, yeah, we can argue that the most optimal play is to minimize healing (so that dps is maximized) such that nobody dies. But letting your party members run around at 30% feels way different to them than having them all at 90% or full. I'm a healer first, dps second.

It's not like any dungeons really need you to put out that extra 10% dps. You're already overkill if you're dpsing so much you're letting people sit with half a bar of HP missing. It's already epeen land by then.

And in trials and raids? Your healing pace is mostly dictated by the encounter anyways.

I like to play safe, because I was at the other end a few time. Even if I survive it still put a lot of stress on me as a tank

In dungeon trash pull I usually keep tank above 50%, DPS above 70%
Boss fight I am willing to let tank drop to 25-30, and dps not lower than 50.

Trial depend on how the skill of the tank, if the tank know the fight pop CD at the right time, would allow the tank drop to roughly 30% and dps not lower than 50%. If the tank isn’t very skilful in the fight, 50% is my safe guard.

As a Scholar my ‘heal them up’ point is 50%...because that’s when Excogitation activates. Besides that, I want to say that I’m one of the ‘good players’ who lets tanks get to like 10% before healing them , but honestly I throw an Adloquium on the target if it isn’t going to overheal (usually around 60-70%). Then just use Broil III, Lustrate if they drop below 50% and that’s all that’s really needed.

In terms of party healing honestly I try and have mitigation up for every enemy AoE. Yes, I know it makes me a trash Scholar, but I just love mitigating damage and making it so the enemy AoE do as little damage as possible. Not that I’m blowing every ability I have each time, it’s all about having a strategy. Like doing Recitation + Fey Illumination + Succor or Adloquium with Deployment Tactics for one, then Sacred Soil for the next with Fey Blessing. Then Indomitability with Whispering Dawn, etc etc. When it comes a to HP amounts, if I know that the mitigation will reduce AoE enough then I generally don’t heal after. If it brings us down to like 50/60%ish, then I’ll have either Sacred Soil or Whispering Dawn on. Anytime I use a GCD for mitigation I’ll refund the DPS and MP with Energy Drain as soon as I can.

In terms of DPS taking ‘accidental’ damage, I tend to throw out Lustrate immediately in that situation. Excogitation generally won’t go off, Emergency Tactics requires a GCD, and Fey Union will take a tick to activate. So I just like using Lustrate so it the extra healing is covered quickly and I can focus on mitigation/ damage

> 60% for cure 1 to avoid underhealing.
< 65% for cure 1 to avoid overhealing.
< 55% for cure 2 to avoid overhealing.

I didn't test the underhealing point for Cure 2, but I never purposely let people drop under 30%.

I try to keep the tank hovering above 80%, generally. This way I don't need to worry about it.

For raids, if I'm familiar enough with a fight to recognize tank busters by name then I'll let them drop down to 30%. I, also, like to time my aoe heals to hit immediately after a boss aoe.

For dungeon mobs, I like to play limbo with their health bar. How low can you go? However, I don't want to make the tank nervous so large pulls don't typically drop below 40% for anyone. Bosses though I'll make sure they stay alive.

So, in raids after raid wide aoes, do you leave all of your party members at the point where 1 more hit will kill then?

Cuz according to you, anything more than doing this is a waste.

If you were playing optimally,yes you would, assuming there isn't another raid wide coming out soon. It takes a lot of knowledge of a fight to know when to do that though, but the best healers in the world do do that. Hell, the best healers in the world have a timeline written down for each and every heal they're going to do in the fight.

While I do enjoy playing risky myself, I do find that to be a bit excessive, but you know, so long as nobody dies then there's no issue.

you can easily burst heal people so I just pop a regen on the tank and let his health go below about 40% then burst heal them unless i want to benediction, then i let it go as low as 25%. For healers and tanks to work they have to trust each other, a tank can't panic when he's low and a healer can't either.

Tank? When around 50% depending on how squishy they have been. DPS? When they run back after dying from the AoE.

About what you said about the single pulls...I just can't help but notice that there was a bit of contempt in that tone, like you're proud of the fact that you only throw a regen on the Tank and offer no other heals to Tanks (even if they may need it). That bothers me. Some Tanks prefer to pull small, I'm personally not one of them but I still respect their decisions since only they know what they are comfortable with. I feel like you do not, and that bothers me.

If it's 1 group, you will very rarely need anything more than a regen.

Around 50% more than whatever the heal I'm planning to use will heal them for. Well... within reason. If we're talking cases where my tools will heal most/all of their HP, I try not to let them fall below half.

About 5%. I give my friends too many heart attacks. It's part of the fun.

60% is when I start thinking about it.

50% is when I usually do it.

If 2 other players are ~85% when someone else is at 60% I'll usually throw out an AoE heal because I'm lazy.

Though, of course, this is if the Tank doesn't have Excog. Because if they do I'm not healing them until it goes off.

Most time I get bad tanks and have to spam none stop healing or they die in 5 seconds. Most tanks get never get out of the aoe attacks or pull way to many that they can handle. If have a good tank I heal at 60%.

I don't have fixed point, I just use a heal if one is needed. If I'm on WHM and I have Benediction, it feels like a waste if the tank is over 25%. ED on AST is similar since it scales with tank HP remaining. Some pulls may not requiring healing at all and in that case I'll just DPS since it's more efficient than healing.

If I'm being honest with myself, when I'm playing with strangers, my heal threshold is pathetically low (the amount of damage taken before I feel like I need to step in and heal). There's no point in risking a wipe when I don't know these people and who knows the fight/what buttons to push.

With friends? Yeah, I enjoy my power a little too much. In dungeons I let them sit at whatever hp till the next aoe burst goes out, and hit them with Excog/Dignity/Bene when death seems imminent. I mean, do you really know your tank if you haven't heard them grunt in panic over discord? I really know all my tank friends.

Based on expectations of incoming damage.

Benefit of having 4 80s and all the roles covered is I know what kind of pressure my tank and DPS are likely to be under, and I heal for that. That isn’t some percentage, it’s situational.
- I do like to have them all topped off in any low pressure moment. I want people saving mitigation cooldowns for high pressure moments or tankbusters, so I make sure I heal them to where, if I was playing that role on my character in my character’s current hear for it, I wouldn’t be wondering where my healz was at...

If you let them slide to the point where they’re stressing, that’s the point where they start blowing up rotations... and then things become a mess. I only let that happen if I myself have hit that point for some other reason...

Caveat is that healer is my secondary role, I maim as a tank and DPS is probably third. But I try to regularly rotate between them all to keep my perspective current.

pretty much the same, except that with friends I base it on having a good grasp of their playstyle, like I know who tends to play drunk so I keep an eye on that one with spot heals or regen ^_^

70% ish, though for trash pulls I try to keep the tank topped off unless it looks they know how to use their cds properly. So many tanks that have their HP jumping from 100% to 40% within a single gcd, they'd definitely die if I don't heal spam their butts >.>
