Ok, so, since we all know that everyone on the source has been rejoined 7 times (though for our pc it's now most likely 8), I have been wondering about us the Legacy Players and when exactly we got our 7th rejoining. Was it when Bahamut was attacking us on Carteneau. Was it before Louisouix sent us into the time rift. While we were in the time rift or did it occur after we got put back 5 years later. Does anyone have any ideas or theories about that?

I've been wondering about this and related topics as well. The obvious question is how a soul rejoining works: given that the Calamity apparently means everyone's souls on the Source got rejoined, and yet nobody mentioned feeling weird during that time five years ago. Specifically non-Eorzeans, whose interaction with the Calamity is mostly "the red moon descended then disappeared, and then lots of traumatized Eorzeans started showing up". (For Eorzeans, presumably the sheer terror of the Calamity plus whatever aether shenanigans caused the post-Calamity amnesia might be suitable handwaves.) Even as a non-Legacy player, we are clearly not merely five years old, so there should be some mechanism by which a soul can be grafted onto an existing one without the existing soul even noticing, as opposed to the lightshow when we joined with Ardbert.
And the other question, which you brought up, is how long each Calamity lasts, in cosmic terms. What is the "start" of the Calamity, and when does it "end"? It's likely that cosmologically, the Calamity "starts" when the barrier to the Shard breaks down and an uncontrolled aether transfer phenomenon occurs, but what does that mean in the case of the Seventh Calamity? Was it just during the very short period of Bahamut's rampage? Or did it start earlier, when Dalamud was in the process of falling? Both are possible due to time shenanigans between Source and Shard, but we don't know which case it is. -

The cosmic "break point" might be when Bahamut hatches from the moon. That's the point where it switches from preventing the Calamity to mitigating its effects.

It's most likely happened when souls were being reassembled. For legacy players was when they first appeared on ARR, remember they were teleported into the future. Teleportation is a nifty way to reassemble our aether. My pet theory is the calamity on the source was needed so enough people die and be reincarnated with their shard fragments. That's why living people don't feel any different, they won't be rejoined until they die. WoL don't experience rejoining the same way as everyone else but specifically is different because we don't die (for lack of better words, have our soul separated from the body). Why? we have Hydaelin's shield and blessings which keep our aether together as tight as possible.
This blessing has some magnetism property to our aether. Remember the way other crystals of light are drawn to us, Lahabrea noted it and thought we manifested them somehow. It could just be crystals from other shards, drawn to their owner's aether (our shard fragments). If we think about it that way then our aether don't need to die (go to lifesteam), and our fragments are simply drawn by our aether amplified by the blessings. -

This presumably extended to the secondary effects of Dalamud exploding and Bahamut's rampage: the fissure opening up in Eastern Thanalan, Gods' Grip being scoured by a megatsunami, and Coerthas becoming a glacier.Quote:

Shiva was a regular mortal, that from what I've gathered was eaten by Hvrae dragon and that happened after the world was sundered by Hydaelyn. Midgard came to this source remember after everything happened and entered into a pact with Hydaelyn. So Shiva was a sundered soul, now I dont know if Hvraes... consumed her soul like what happened to Lahabrea and nidhoggs eye or it was just the body he ate.

Well, I'm not entirely sure that it's different for Legacy players versus any other players. Hasn't it been confirmed at this point that all players were canonically at Carteneau, and that Legacy players only remember it because of cosmic circumstance rather than them being there vs. 2.0 players not being there? Or is that something I've merely heard and I'm now repeating as fact?

There is nothing in lore or in game that says all players legacy and non were at carteneau. I thought at one time they may have done some retconning for binding coil but if you're a non legacy player Louisouix doesnt even know who you are. The legacy players get remembered by him.

I regret deleting my legacy character back in the day. Wish it were more of an account thing, although not entirely sure this is the same account tbh since back then I think I had a disc that cost me £4 (although I've never been able to find it so it may have been a digital download) and when I rejoined the game sometime after the betas I had to upgrade to a digital code at full retail price. Or something like that, it was so long ago and the game was barely playable for me before the betas that I didn't get very far in it. Most I saw was a "dungeon" outside Limsa which was all open area so if you weren't careful at low level you could accidentally walk into it and suddenly be faced by high level monsters, at least I think it was there. Lots of tunnels and pretty high level for me at the time but some group was quite eager to go in with me. All I remember was sheep bouncing around in the distance and warping dead at my feet, and a horrible crafting and gathering system that made completely no sense and was an RNG-fest. During the betas however I was retrying new jobs, and when the game went live I stupidly deleted my beta character to start over from scratch. I don't even think my character name comes up in the legacy character credits, can't remember what name I used back then. Might've been Kantmiss Neverseen.

In the case of Lady Shiva, whether she's in Hraes's belly or not, I'd say that she was affected by the Rejoining. Her soul, wherever it is, is now denser. That's really all there is to it! I don't know if this is something that she OR Hraesvalgr would notice (assuming Shiva is still self-aware at all).
The densening of souls doesn't seem to have been something noticeable to anyone else, so I doubt it'd be noticeable to her, either.
On the topic of summoning Shiva requiring bits of Lady Shiva's soul - I don't think it's been established that that's the case. Shiva was constructed wholly from Ysayle's imagination, using random bits of Lifestream Aether. There was nothing that seemed to indicate that the Primal Shiva had any kind of "memories" from long ago - or, in fact, that she had any memories that Ysayle herself did not have. She was Ysayles idealized vision of Shiva, and totally unconnected from the original Shiva.
Perhaps, however, if Shiva was summoned again, by heretics or their descendants, the newly-summoned Shiva might include bits of Aether from the previous summoning of Shiva. It's sort of implied that Primals have a kind of "persistence" in the Lifestream that makes it so that an entirely new being is not being summoned every time the Primal is summoned; that they have a kind of continuity to them.
As a matter of fact, I think this might be a big part of the reason why the WoL's summoning of Titan and Leviathan came out so differently. There were no persistent bits of those Primals floating around the First's Lifestream to give the Primals a consistent shape. If the WoL had tried the same trick on the Source, it's possible he might have gotten the Titan and Leviathan we know.
If it's any consolation, I believe you didn't get any of the cool "legacy" benefits unless you'd done a significant amount of progression through the game. So your character, if you hadn't deleted it, wouldn't have the legacy tatoo, or the special cutscenes, or whatever.Quote:

Perhaps this is in part to being stopped prematurely and dissipating most of the aether before trying to reassemble it as found out in Coil. Where does it state it was a shard absorbing level of calamity? Just seems the amount of aether something would theoretically need to have to destroy something on a planet wide scale wouldn't just wiff away as Bahamut did. The entire planet on the First turned to light except an Eorzea sized chunk, and yet Bahamut didn't even damage an Eorzea sized chunk on the source.
Maybe whatever shard that was intended to absorb is in some reverse stage of destruction even now, having just parts and sections ripped apart. -

Bahamut was definetly a Calamity/Rejoining. The reason why it seems to be a smidge "gentler" then some of the other Calamities we've read about was because of Lousioux's involvement and Phoenix revitalizing the land by accident.
The Ascians who know what a Rejoining is certainly think it was a Rejoining and Emet-Slech is counting it when he talks about how many Shards have been Rejoined to the Source. -

Weren't most, if not all, of the Calamities centered on the continent of Aldenard anyway? I dont have my lore book here with me at work but I think it mentioned something to that extent. Especially with Eorzea being basically ground zero most of the time.

To have the legacy tattoo your character just had to be made during 1.0. I was only able to play about a month at release because my computer couldn't handle the game but I still managed to get a legacy tattoo on my character even though her highest level was 15 and I hadn't paid for a sub since release.

Rivenroad was actually fun at one point you got to play the ffxiv version of missile command.. but with meteors and magic and arrows also -

The difficulty of Trials in modern day XIV has increased each expansion, so I'd be hesitant to say they were equivalent of "Hard" modes—they were certainly more challenging than any normal trials (including Hard modes) in 2.0, but maybe not as difficult as Steps of Faith, I'd say. Fights were typically much longer, I think, or at the very least they felt that way... and in the case of the Lunar Transmitter there was an entire open world dungeon you had to traverse and wait for patrolling Garleans to open doors for you (or did you have to kill the guards...? gods it's been so long). The normal mode of Rivenroad (I personally never did the hard mode!) was certainly difficult for players at the time, though. It was much more common to have people who hadn't completed the storyline and had difficulties finding groups to clear it (since there was little material incentive to help someone).Quote:

If you are missing titles you should be able to contact a gm about though when I was missing my Notorious Monster Hunter title they tried to tell me I didnt get it back in 1.0 and had to call SE directly for the copy pasta script the Gm sent me.
Basically double check your lodestone page under achievements and within the game to see if you have them and go from there. -

I think legacy characters are in game features only. All of the so called hero of light actually perished in 7th calamity. All of the current hero of light are reforged with 7 souls fragment by mother crystal as her avatar. We are randomly placed into Erozea as per initial cutscene when you start the game.

It's implied that her memory issues are due to the magical shenanigans involved in Louisoix's spells at Carteneau, which don't actually have any lore precedent other than "it was convenient for the plot", so I don't know if it's meant to be a major plot point for the future.Quote:

So I'm leaning more and more to the belief that if soul rejoining had any physical or mental effect, it probably was subtle enough to be drowned out by the general panic of "help we're in the middle of a Calamity".
Which brings to mind another question: what happened to the souls of everyone stuck inside Syrcus Tower after the Fourth Calamity? -

Then, like now, you had to talk to an NPC to actually get the rewards, so maybe you just forgot to do that. I'd be surprised if GMs couldn't fix that for you.Quote:
