Hi frens :o
Has anyone tried going 1 day or week with no teleporting?

It's more so a giant waste of time than a challenge. I once tried to go from the sea of clouds to... somewhere else in heavensward while waiting on a timed gathering node and didn't even make it to my destination before it popped.
I did so back when I was leveling b/c I considered the Aetherytes too expensive.
It can be done (I am basically used to it from WoW) but as Mesa already stated: The only thing you accomplish is waste tons of time, not just riding but also having multiple loadingscreens between you and your destination instead of only one.
Doing this would be more fun if the World was like WoWs, where you can traverse an entire continent w/o bumping into loading screens.
Back when I first started my character (even now when I make alts), I basically use the airship to travel to major cities from ARR to Heavensward. I solely focused on msq and tried to save as much gil as I could. I used the chocobo keep services too to travel between areas. I could take a break during that time.
Even now I still take airship to Golden Saucer because it's free. If I'm not in a hurry, I would go to GS then take the ship to Ul'dah for the same reason.
Half the time I can't even be bothered to fly from one end of the same zone to the other if there's a teleport available. It's not like gil is hard to get.
I recall when I was on Goblin during 2.X we had a walk event that started in Gridania and was pretty much a walk to and through the locations. However not teleporting to really travel would drive me insane.
If you want a real challenge, turn off your UI (ie. No maps, no compass) then start travelling without teleports.
You might notice how much of the environments beauty you overlook :3!
I'm always doing that for 95% of story-quests because it feels more imerssive to me and less rushed (only to a certain degree though - I will teleport from Ishgard to Yanxia instead of making the whole round-trip...)
Since I usually play story-heavy quests (Mainstory, Hilli, seasonal events) with my boyfriend its really nice to get a chance to actually travel through the beautiful zones the game has to offer while chatting about the current events of the story in question. For story-quests it also gives me a feeling of everything being more... connected instead of just hoping from one scene to the next - its more of a journey than.
I wouldnt go a random day without teleport though - I mainly use it to get from one timed node to the next one; something that would be impossible without teleports.
Doesn't happen often, but every now and then I'll do it for fun. It can be quite nice to just enjoy the scenery sometimes. On those days I also run instead of fly whenever it's possible.
closest thing for me is when I'm doing the daily Heavensward and Stormblood hunts, going trough all the zones using only 2 teleports each.
First to Ishgard, then from Dravanian x-lands (depending on what route I took) to Churning Mists at the end
And first to Rhalgr's, then from Lochs to Ruby Sea halfway trough
But now on the first I'm just teleporting around since a: awkward zone transitions and b: I'm drowning in teleport tickets anyway
The first months after the release of ARR it was usefull to save gils. I use more teleport since there are Aetheryte Tickets (Hunt and Grand Companies) and sometimes still use mount or run just because I feel in mood to do so.
Yes I did, and I did more actually, not only I didn't teleport but I didn't use any mount at all... back then we just called it playing the v1 though and that was the only way to move around if you ran out of anima.
I used to do Stormwind to Uther Grave runs on foot when I was bored in WoW. Seldom tried to go from one side of Eorzea to the other on foot tho. Should give it a try.
Challenge accepted and done. Long but scenic. But if you truly want a challenge, make a level 1 character and run them to attune with the three major cities and Dragonhead. Never will you be so paranoid of every noise and mob. Good luck!
Complete a savage raid with ability indicators turned off.
I really didn’t use pay teleports till after lvl 50 and bought a house. Just selling dungeon drops and saving my Gil. Most of the people I started had not even saved up to 1 mil yet.
I think a lot of us did it in 2.0 during leveling. Gil was very scarce at that time, and it was a given that one should not use teleport at all. It was also a given that the FC teleport discount was the single best FC action to use.
A lot of us went from 1 to 50 without using teleport at all or only very scarcely. Gil was that hard to come by.
Challenge!?! I did this for sometime after I bought my first house
I've got an idea.
It's a gimic character that does this. As a livestream. 100% completion of the MSQ, on twitch, no teleport.
Builds a FC full of people with Draft Choco and the G series. While in a party with him, same rules, no teleports. But they CAN have the maps and drive him there faster, or give him 5 minutes for bio.
No using "shortcut" if you die at a boss, or return in hawke manor.
This could work.
Lets make sure it's on the same data center as "Uber Driver" and his car.
All that would do is make it take twice as long to get anything done. This isn't a game that rewards exploration like, say, Elder Scrolls Online.
I can do most thing from my home in the goblet so a few days without teleporting is kinda norm for me...
When I first started, the friend I was playing with and I ran everywhere as opposed to teleporting. I do the same thing sometimes for MSQ. For ShB, I ran more than I actively teleported to enjoy the zones more. On my story alts, I tend to run as well.
All the time back in 1.0
Good riddance to the Anima system! \o/
This challenge would make the MSQ filler ten thousand times more infuriating. Imagine having to go on a Lord of the Rings scale trek just to make Tataru some tea.
i actually doing this back when the game still in HW, at that time iam at the highest point of enjoying FF14 so i enjoy the view, at one time i even try walking from gridania to foundation (even following the "travel" path lol)
now not anymore obviously
I myself use teleports quite often simply because it saves me more time. I have seen and will see certain places and maps more than enough so I dont even want to see more of it by constantly having to fly through it all.
But I have an ingame friend that only teleports when there is a hunt or when he goes to city with the free teleport. It seemingly is no problem for him and he just dislikes teleporting but when we do treasure maps and stuff like that we have to wait for him which in turn of course wastes our time.
I only did "non-aetherite" teleports on my Kemiko character in ARR. Legit walked (non mount or sprint) with friends to places. Was a lot of fun and a perfect time for screenshots.
Both of my alts however, were completely rp centric in their creation. I refused to teleport at all, even with discount or free tickets (exceptions being accepting someone elses teleport, reviving from death or using the wedding ring). I also turned off portions of the UI such as healthbars and hotbars and the minimap.
I enjoyed it personally but it waa frustrating to anyone playing with me.
Then keep on keeping on? My point is refusing to teleport isn't going to give you an advantage. You won't find nodes or secret quests or chests full of dungeon quality loot like in ESO. There aren't secret world bosses hanging around either or rare spawns to make not teleporting more challenging.
If you want to not teleport to take in the sights then do it, but as a "challenge" it's just kinda silly.
Costs add up pretty quickly so I do it to save gil sometimes. Let's not forget that Limsa can only be flown("airship")/teleported out of >_>.
