Please Add Duration Or Lower Recast On Potions

The majority of potions I look at have a duration of 30 seconds or 40, but cannot be reused for 4 minutes. Could this possibly be changed to 1-2 minute duration so its a two minute timer?
The ones the last ten minutes but take 30 to reuse drop to say.. 20 mins?
I don't forsee many buying these potions or my urge to gather the materials for a 30 to 40 second period time of use. This is a very small period of time that from a non alchemists point of view isn't quite worth the gil, from alchemists point of view, not worth the farming.
I have high hopes in potions adding a bit of spice to my alchemy again, as I feel its been less then great outside of the crystal/shard side of things, and look forward to using them in pts. I do not however feel the duration is worth the energy to make them. Please SE could we look at a higher duration or lower recast?

What are your thoughts?

I wholeheartedly agree. While these potions may be of use to melee for a little bit of added damage, the MND and VIT potions are comparatively useless as consistency is needed when it comes to damage reduction and healing. Having an extra burst of defense or healing doesn't help much, because either one of two scenarios are present:

1: You're doing just fine when the potion isn't in effect... so no need for it.
2: You NEED that potion. In which case when it wears off, you're fucked.

Well, ok, there is a third option where the tank is SLOWLY being whittled down faster than you can heal, and it's JUST enough of a problem that 40 seconds of bonus defense or healing can keep him up. However, being just in that exact range of difficulty is so wildly unlikely that it's pretty much a moot point.

The Medicine Recast times in this game are absurd.

I can understand making the Super Buffing Potion have high recasts, but there is no reason for Potions and Ethers to have it too.

I imagined the use for these types of potions would be to quickly burn high damaging bosses down at a certain stage down (Like shadowlord from ffxi). MND or VIT potions might be useful for popping for certain moves like hellfire (VIT doesn't fit exactly in these case, but yeah).

Problem is most things I can think of that hurt REAL badly, where you may wish to pop a potion beforehand are magic damage, such as hellfire. VIT potion boosts defense to help with physical attacks, but MND potions only boost the main MND stat, and do not boost the secondary stat of magic defense: They instead boost the other secondary stat of healing magic. Granted, you could probably try to have the tank use a potion of piety and pray they get a partial resist, and have the healer use a potion of mind to help get the tank back up after... though the latter isn't usually as much a problem as the tank surviving the move in the first place, and that still puts the potions into the realm of "Highly situational"

I gotta say that while I've found drops, ethers, potions, and elixirs to all be pretty fuckin sweet (when properly macroed), the stat boosting potions are pretty unappealing. I'd say they either need higher stat boosts or longer durations (with preference to the former) and maybe an increased recast time to compensate. Maybe a higher-tier stat potion that uses vampire plant cuttings would be better for that, though.

Totally agree. Only ethic and potion and elixirs will be required, my LS members even not willing take others but all potions are free of charged! Food like crown cake / beef / knight bread are much more demand.

I think we need a better item then Throat Drops for silence, with a recast timer of 5min. Where are my echo drops? With the new dungeon in AV and those slugs that silence a 5min timer just doesn't work.

yes! silence is a taru'ble thing for us mages, nothing worse then a tank at 30% and your silenced with 4 minutes on your potion timer ^^;

The development team is currently looking into reducing the recast timers on medicinal items. :)

Actually, in 1.22b we just added the higher tier version of “Muscle Restorative” known as “Giant’s Drink” and the recast timer on this is 15 minutes.

We will be sure to give an update as to the when and how much once we receive that information!

Now please tell the Dev team to scatter lvl 45-55 Ogres throughout Eorzea.

I think it goes for ether issue as well. You can restore 100 mp which is not enough even to cast single spell. and you have unknown CD on this, as for the rest of things.

I am looking forward to any changes :)

You can get Ogre Horns from one of the L40+ Alchemist leves in Limsa if you need some, doesn't come up all the time though.

I almost always use a Mega potion of intelligence when I do a burst combo on blm. It adds a very nice amount of damage and the duration is enough to get off a second thundara. Vit and mnd are also damage modifiers for war and pld, respectively, so they aren't useless if you use them correctly.

So yes, they are situational. Isn't that what they were designed for? As for potions/ethers, they are helpful while you are solo but elixirs are a lot better to carry around when you are doing end game content.

Ya this is something that should be easily fixed come 2.0, I imagine if anything that they hopefully split it into Restoratve, status ailments, curing ailments, enhancement and maybe a separate one for raising allies, unless that one doesn't count toward the medicine cooldown.

I only leveled crafts that mutilate metal and animals, and I want to be able to get ogre horn +1.

Then you would be carrying 1 of each potion that exists...


Maybe just separate potions that buff and potions that restore into separate groups with their own recast (like food and potions now)

Potions kinda useless so far that I have to sell it, except elixirs.
Why can't we spam potions like the offline versions? :?
Found out yesterday doing "United We Stand" that even elixirs didn't really help much. ;D

Can't really see where lowering the timers of Consumables is justified; seeing how the only place I use said potions is Aurum Vale on Silence from the slugs during Coincounter, even then; there are exceptions where I don't need the use of potions at all.

I think that recast time should be splitted for "Healing Potion" (Elixir, Ether, Mega-Potion, ecc.) and "Status Potion" (Disabling, Poison, ecc.).

It should be like the way in FFXI, buff potion have a timer like the medicine effect
Status restore potion just works and you should be able to spam echo drop if the mob keeps on silencing you.

I can see both side of the HP/MP recovery potion. It might be too OP if you can just non stop use them in battle, but it also gets annoying and expensive really fast.

I loved my pot spamming in RO, fun times.
I have nothing against cool-down-less potions but I can see why people would be.

I seem to remember a certain DRG friend of mine literally spamming Hi-Pots in FFXI on his R10 Sandy mission while I (RDM) nuked down the final mobs. Was epic. I think he chugged 30 of them in a 10 second window lol
