When you say Ivalice I believe you mean Dalmasca. Ivalice a nation has not existed for so long that is basically a myth that no one believes in.

Of course everyone always points this out, but I like the callbacks in the Legions like the VIth dealing with the Warring Triad and the VIIth with Meteor.
The Dalmascan one being the IVth would seem to really stand out from that, but it makes me wonder if somehow they'll be involved in how we get to the moon for Zodiark, since FFIV's climax was also on the moon. -

That's a reocurring trope in all FF games, where the series number of that particular game tends to show up repeatedly in it's setting. So the number 14 being an arc number here in FFXIV is nothing new. ;)
The idea that each Garlean legion and particularly their commanding Legatus references the FF game whose number they share... is an old theory with the connections being vague or downright metaphorical, but still a closer fit than the similar idea of "each of Hydaelyn's shards is a past FF world!"
But then if each Legion did reference a past FF game, why wasn't the XIIth then dedicated to Dalmasca, instead spending their time keeping a city with a name for FFVI under the Garlean jackboot (Doma)? It's too vague an idea to really hold much weight any more personally. -

If they're going to take something from IVs playbook, I imagine it'll be the Tower of Babil plot point, more so given the last we saw the IVth Legion, they were snooping around Ridorana Lighthouse... Watch him fortify it and rename it to Castrum Babel for another "Hey, this 4 man dungeon seems familiar" instance like the Twinning... Bonus points if Lyse follows Papalymo and does a Yang to stop the new Garlean Super Cannon from firing Tartarus at Hiens new wall...Quote:
