I don't want to transfer, so WHY are you forcing me to?

I thought 1.21 would be a good time to check-in on FFXIV, what with jobs being released and all. I played FFXI for years, and was curious to see how they are progressing towards 2.0. I had been casually keeping tabs on whats going on, and I remember the server merger information being posted to twitter. Naturally, that's the first place I went when reactivating my account.. and was even present with a splash to do so.

My goal here was to make sure I remained on the SAME server with all my friends, and I figure this is the path I have to take. I try to set up a transfer to Durandal, which I now realize is the default server I would have been put on had I taken no action. Regardless, it tells me its full... which is not the problem.

The problem is: now I'm being defaulted to Ragnarok. Because apparently, since its the only server that isn't "full", you thought it would be a good idea to throw me there. On the official European server. Without my blessing. I contacted support through email, and they tell me theres no way to reverse this even though the merger hasn't taken place yet.

WHAT? I contact you a week in advance before anything has happened yet, and there's nothing you can do to stop the process? I never selected Ragnarok, and nowhere on the transfer information does it say that action is not required. Quite frankly I'm furious. I understand that technically it was my misunderstanding that put me in this predicament, but what kind of retarded system defaults a player to a server they didn't chose? Why would my default option not remain WHAT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN? It's unacceptable, and quite frankly mind-boggling coming from a company/game attempting to rebuild it's reputation.

If this goes through, you have lost a customer for 2.0.

You're not the first I'm hearing of that is having this problem.

SE dropped the ball really hard with the server transfers and mergers.

Like everything else with FFXIV: it's archaic and done with spaghetti code. Pretty absurd situation. Mis-clicking is one thing, but being defaulted to a server that you didn't even chose while trying to remain on your own server? And there's nothing they can do?

Pretty pathetic for a company desperately trying to gain support for its completely botched game. Hopefully they can help you because they need every customer they can get.

From what I understand, the correct response (according to them) would be -- "DEFAULT MERGED WORLD." However, they still give you the option to pick the default merged world (by name), setting you as priority BELOW all of your 'default merged world' friends. I'm assuming you accidentally picked it by name instead of simply 'default merged world'. By clicking that option, you accidentally forced yourself to give up your 'right' to stay put. It's too bad they didn't implement some sort of clause in the code to realize if you picked the same server as your 'default' one and adjust permissions accordingly. A few people have had this issue, and if more do, they're going to have to take action.

Although you REALLY can get away with doing nothing, I didn't know this until after I had 'applied'. I picked 'default' and have not had any issues (as far as I know).

How are you being forced to merge? Click "Default Merged World" and you're done, period.

"The selected World is full. Please select another." And the characters still read: Rabanastre -> Ragnarok.

If your on a world being merged and your ok with that world then the actions you need to do are.. none at all. There are thousands of people out there that took that route and did nothing at all and had no problems. Sorry if you didn't understand..

I'll admit that that's pretty messed up... :\ Though all the more reason to make sure you read instructions carefully before taking any action... Especially with something as sensitive as world transfers. Would've prevented the whole ordeal to begin with.

I just read the instructions, and nowhere in there does it say that no action can be taken. And nowhere does it say if you chose a full server the first time, you'll be randomly selected to another server.

While this is certainly a case of user error, it's a bigger case of developer incompetence.

I was referring to the fact that if you want to stay with your default server, you don't have to do anything regarding the transfer application.

if you didn't click anything, nothing will happen and no one will transfer you. the instruction was crystal clear to me i think.

Am I understanding correctly? If you set the dropdown menu to the words "Default Merged World" it now mentions a server by name, after you apply the selection?

I tried selecting my Default Merged World (DMW) by name (Ridill,) and of course, it told me to make another selection, as it was full. I, then, went back to the words "Default Merged World" in the dropdown, applied the selection, and it was processed and approved with none of the problems you mention. And the words displayed as my selection are still "Default Merged World." I just repeated this, just before writing this reply, and again it worked as described.

I didn't find this system to be complicated and/or unclear. But perhaps you've encountered a gremlin in the system. Another explanation might be that in between step one, and step two, you might have accidentally selected Ragnarok, and successfully applied this change. In this case, it seems to me, the system would've cleared your original default, and established your new default as Ragnarok. So, now, when you try to go back to Durandal, it processes the request as a transfer, not as your choosing to stay in your "Default Merged World." Because it's no longer your default merged world.

As I cannot imagine the displeasure of being thrown in a world of strangers at this stage of my game, I empathize with your situation and hope that you get the attention of the moderators here, and that your problem is solved. Other than that, have you tried calling the Costumer Service line?

If you click a different World.. Your "Opting" out of your Default World.. and someone CAN take your place. Thats why when I saw "Default World" I never clicked anything and left it be. If you wanted to stay in the Default world, then the Application didn't apply to you.

I think its plain bad customer care what SE is doing. How many people made the same mistake? Lets say less than 10? Less than 20? Its not gonna overload the server if they let them stay.

I am sorry but if you've been told constantly that:

If you dont want to move, DO NOTHING

And you go and click your own server when you're ment to do nothing, it is your fault. Not SE's.

I moved 2 characters to Gungnir, No issue, still going there, 14 Mules on 2 accounts are on "Default", and absolute no issue with them either, all of them going to default server.

Problem lies between the Keyboard and Chair here.

So this boils down to "I can't read properly and don't understand the concept of Default so it's SE's fault". Gotcha.

he went to the menu, saw his server was full and chose ragnarok cuz it was the only choice open...he says it in the post itself!

You may want to post this to the tech support forum or something. Perhaps you'd get more help there?

Its really logically really.. without reading... A+B=C World A(being your world)+B(Another world)=C(You being combined with your world and the other world). Now Reading the applications page... it tells you before you click what world you would potentially want to go into, it says "Default Server" If you didn't know what default ment ask questions, look in a dictionary things of that nature.

Key word is being Default here. Default is "your" world.. So A= Your world B= Another world C= A+B Combined. If you took no action you would just have went along with all your friends+other friends you will encounter from the other. None of this is SE's Fault weather they need the customers or not.. this is a BIG process.. if there no room on any of the servers.. then sadly there's no way they can help you.. unless the world itself has a free space for you..

that's the ONLY way they could help you... but at this time.. you goofed up..just like the person who threw away his Paragon Helm.. User's fault.. however they should have a buyback feature.. but knowing there isn't one in the game... Need to be cautious on what you sell etc.

Anyways.. I really do feel for you.. I'm sorry this happened to you.. but this is your fault not SE..

Anyways Good luck trying to get back to your Default World.. maybe something will free up by the 19th

Its funny.. how people don't read instructions and then put the blame on SE for there mishap LOL.

Based on the OP I don't understand how some of you can say this is a case of user error. If transferring to Durandal is full, and the player is automatically forced to go to another realm, it should default the user to Durandal, the server the user was destined to be on in the first place - not arbitrarily select another server.

This is a case of bad system management, not a case of user error, if what the OP says is accurate.

you do not have to do anything to stay on the server your being merged into

OP went to the server merge screen, and instead of reading that fact, he decided that he HAD to choose a server that was available, and since his wasnt he chose another, thus giving up his spot by choice and ignorance

there was no bad management by the system, it was poor judgement by the player

It's actually a case of bad system management and user error, it should have said which world you were going to instead of default world and the user should have read stuff better.

OP, call tech support. It's what the moderator will post once this topic escalates to a point they notice and lock it.

What he suggests states that he didn't actually click or select Ragnarok.

Instead, it suggests that he was defaulted to server D, clicked on server D, the sysytem said it was full, then checked the default server for the user, D, said it was full, and sent him to server R without any user input.

That suggests a flaw within the system, based on the information given by the OP.

There's a tiny bit of user confusion on his part, yes, but he didn't do anything that would have otherwise compromised his position on server D if the system was functioning correctly.

If She/He would have read before taking action NONE of this would have ever happened.. we were told from the Gitgo What is happening etc etc.. If he didn't want to move the most logical thing is to do "Nothing" since your on that world.. so why would anyone need to to anything to switch, when they are on the world with there friends.. Its simple Logic...

-Instructions
-Understand the situation
-Think about the outcome
-Do you really want to move from your current server ( if you don't Do nothing)
-If you do want to move the choose desired Server thats NOT the server you are on
-Server Transfer Complete (end)

These things need to be running through peoples heads before making the action.. if you don't.. stuff like this happens.. Its all Users Fault period..

The OP shouldn't have clicked on Durandel. It was full when they selected it. Had they left it at Default merged world, they would have ended up on Durandel. But they already know this now.

It was user error, but SE is still partly to blame. The way it should have worked is if you choose a server that is full it should have automatically put you back to the default world transfer, not put you on another server entirely since, you know, you didn't actually move anywhere. In this particular case, I hope they fix it for you, OP.

This is just the beginning, I get the feeling we are going to have people losing characters and god knows what when the transfer actually takes place.

If you did accidentally select a world to merge to I think they have said that world transfers will be available in the future, so don't give up hope for a return to your original world. I found the EU players in XI to be quite nice, so playing on Ragnarok for a bit probably won't be the end of the world.

SE should have left a ~2% buffer on all Worlds in order to allow players who made a mistake when transferring to return to their original world at least, if they request it by contacting Support Center/GMs before the merger takes place. (2% is high already, I hardly doubt that 1 transfer out of 50 resulted in a user mistake).

That's how things should have been. User mistakes always happen, no matter how many warning you put on a web page.

what baffles me is these people with this kind of "don't pick on SE!" comments. Its a frigging multi million dollar company. They should be able to provide customer CARE. He's making a reasonable demand: don't move me from my server.

OP said they were hoping for a resolution, which means they posted it to get the attention of a community manager.

Also, how does "one person is angry and vents about it" turn into "everyone who does this is an idiot?" It's not just a matter of attacking the OP, but anyone who makes the same mistake. Look at the posts. It's pretty obvious. That's not exactly an eye for eye.
