game performance with i5 6600k and gtx 1070

Hi, i am running this game on a gtx 1070 and an i5 6600k.

I get about 33 fps in limsa on max in 1080p, I think it should be higher? anyone with similar specs getting better performance?

Getting about 53% gpu utilization, 63% cpu utilization with all temperatures in order and plenty of memory to spare.

Nothing else is running besides windows itself, and yes my drivers are up to date.
I repeat, my drivers ARE up to date.

Is your monitor plugged into the motherboard instead of the GPU? If it is, then you're running off your processor's internal GPU instead of your 1070.

If it's not that, then maybe this is relevant?

My boyfriend has the same specs and gets substantially better performance that that, around 70 FPS at 1440p ultrawide, so no, that's not normal.

Are you using the in-game FPS limiter? That's broken for me. Capping it at 72 FPS causes my game to run at around 30 (uncapped it runs at around 100). Something's causing your GPU usage to be that low-- the game will happily gobble up 99% usage on my PC, unless I have the framerate capped.

This sounds like a connection issue. I run a i7 2500k with a gtx 970 and even with my outdated rig my fps in limsa is never that low.

This is not normal.

I don't know much about this processor (i5 6600k) to tell you if it can explore all the potential of this GPU you're using (which, normaly requires a good and powerful processor to reach 100% GPU usage), but, normaly, a GPU would be close to 100% of usage all the time (or most of the time).

So, maybe the problem is in your processor (maybe it's not running your GPU normaly and this is why we see so poor % GPU usage). Try to watch video benchmarks with this same combination (i5 6600k and GTX1070) to see the porcentage of GPU being used.

After, try to run other games more GPU demanding (or run benchmarks to compare the GPU usage with the benchmarks watched). If the discrepancy is too high, then it's a CPU problem... '-'

There's a massive problem with your pc because i'm running the game perfectly fine with high settings 60 fps with a i5 4440 and a GTX970

I used to play on a Macbook in bootcamp. I had to install am added tool because the intel processor in there would try to use the integrated graphics over the GPU.

As far I know that was an issue specific to Macs - both when they used the Mac OS and when they native booted into Windows...

But it really sounds like you have that issue as well. Either your CPU or you motherboard is seeing your GPU as optional rather than the default.

Less than 100% GPU utilization is actually quite normal.
My 1070 usually hovers around the 45ish % mark and that is with an ENB plugin to beef up the visuals / AA. FPS is limited to 60 due to VSync.
FF-XIV is not a GPU intense title.

In cities, you are (as in every MMO) limited by your single threaded CPU performance. I regularly dip below 60FPS here.

same old 1060 and i get better performance only time i dip into 30-40 range is during mass hunt trains etc. I did run into an issue though once were my performance tanked and i noticed i had a driver update so idk maybe?

Are you overclocking or anything? If so it's possible you're using an unstable OC and its crashing your performance. This being an MMORPG it is CPU bound at 1080p and your CPU is more than capable of playing the game I'm not sure why your fps is tanking so much. You sure those temps are in check what are they running at?

Like I said, I don't know much about this combination of i5 6600k and GTX 1070. I use R5 1600 with RX560. My card always hit around 100% in any game I play. I understand that FFXIV is not a GPU demanding game (that's why I said to her to see benchmarks and try another games more GPU demanding to test the CPU).

Anyway, is good to know more about hardware stuff, thanks :P
