A Job "Try Before You Buy" System?

Something I've noticed with these boosts being implimented is that there's no way to test or try out the job before you commit to buying the boost.

I know the easy answer to this is "well just don't buy the boost lel kek ecks dee scrub", but you look at games like Guild Wars 2 for example. I have a level 80 boost option to use on any class I want, and it gives me the oppertunity to test it out in a training area before I fully commit to buying it to see if it's right for me.

*through gritted teeth* WoW does a similar thing where you can trial your class/spec at 110 before committing to a boost purchase. (I hate bringing that game up as examples)

My question is thus; has there been any whiff or talk of a similar system to be implimented in XIV? Would you want to see something like that in place?

I think it'd be a great addition for those that are uncertain of what class they want to play, or for those that are starting out by skipping straight away (which i advise against), so they have some time to learn the buttons before causing unnecessary greif during roulettes.

Palace of the Dead lets you try up to level 60.

You don't even need to mention boosts with this system. Simply "Can we have a way to test jobs at max level so we know if we want to level them" will be enough to get peoples support, and will prevent people who hate boosters from derailing this thread.

So... do I want a system where I can test max level jobs to see if I enjoy them? Yes, yes I do.

Do I want this system to be incorporated into a "Hall of the intermediate" that will help players become familiar with specific jobs at max level? Yes, yes I do.

Your "trials" would be Palace of the Dead and/or Heaven on High, the two deep dungeons.
They let you try out your kit at 60 and 70 respectively, the only caveat being that the difficulty is completely braindead and you don't get to try out any changes that may be introduced past level 70.

As others have said Deep Dungeons are the best way to do this. You only need to unlock the job on your character and you can play it using all the skills you learn.

I'd say in it's current state up to 70 is the best way to experience most of what a job has to offer as some like WAR and NIN change completely how you play the jobs once you unlock those skills at 70.

POTD/HOH doesnt really let you experience the job, since it doesn't require a regular party comp to complete it. It would be nice to have something where you can test your job in a normal light/full party comp. Not sure how that would be implemented.

Also, you need to have the job to 30 at least for deep dungeons to get your job stone, otherwise you’ll only be playing the base class up to whichever cap.

They've laid the groundwork with the Trust system to implement something like this*.
Now that you've brought it up I'd really like to see this as some sort of continuation from the Hall of the Novice to let people get a feel for the Job and common mechanics that are still being failed despite being staples of the game since forever.

*Yes, the Trust performs worse than most players but for what we're talking about it's good enough.

While I don't think it's bad that people want to try out a job before they invest in it (either time or money) I would also say that some jobs just take a bit till they will click with you. Also it's not like you are limited you can play every job you want and if you grinde one to max and it turns out it isn't the job for you, you can level the next one and try till you found one you like to main. I started the game as an Arcanist and didn't really like it back then so I switched to WHM and it stayed my main, but later I got back to the first class leveled it a bit and started to understand what Scholar was about and how to play it. Turns out it was fun as well. That's a reason why I don't like the job skip, the progression eases you into a job by giving you skill after skill to get used to. Started out as high level might overwhelm you and you'll never really get used to a class and ended up benching it. So the question is will the "try before buy thing" really help you with that?

Not a bad idea. But then we wouldn't waste all that time (keeping a sub active) leveling a class to 70 to suddenly say oh geeze this sucks! (looking at you monk and ninja) Then start the process over again.

Blade and Soul has the best iteration of this. They let you play any class at max level in a training room and guide the player through skill combos so people that buy character boosts can get a feel for the job before they purchase it. Every game that offers any kind of character or level boost should have a similar system.

If a player wants to be good at the job they're playing they will put forth the effort. buying a boost or leveling through POTD/HOH/Trusts ends the same

As a lazy player, let me tell you that I'm leveling dancer solely off of MSQ/trials/alliance roulettes. I make sure my alliance roulettes only get me labyrinth/syrcus, so the only time I play anything above level 50 is in trials. It gets me approx a level a day with minimal effort and I can guarantee you that I haven't learned basically anything about my job above 50.

If I level gunbreaker I'll probably do the same thing and end up at 80 with just as little experience. Lazy players will find a way, with or without paying for it.

So this idea I have to this most likely will never happen but I think it's decent enough:

Your first job quest is a RP quest where you play as your mentor saving the day / showing off/ ect. This lets you play the job in a closed environment that shows off it's appeals in a natural story telling manner that won't feel out of place.

We do this plenty of times in the game for these great moments and having that "This is how strong YOU could be!" moment aside from watching a cutscene would be neat.
