We really do have a lot of new players, the noob feeling is back.

I joined shb about a week ago and I reached the first boss/primal.

I expected to clear blind on my first go since its a normal version, instead I spent almost an hour failing at it.

Mostly because the group, or most of it, was clearly fighting their first real boss ever, I expected some noobness here and there but really we had like 2 people who actually knew their job while the rest had no idea what they were doing, the off tanks were especially bad.

Not really a complaint, I was there at some point and I love having new people in this awesome game, just caught me off guard the extent of the noobness this expansion.

Guess ill run this content with my fc instead of randoms till they catch up.

Road to 70, msq skips and level boosts.

Pretty much the MSQ skips and level boosts. Most of those players dont know the stack markers, AOE markers and have very little hours of experience with their job. So you get to Titania where people are failing an easy dps check.

Its a good thing in the long run.

Yep, and it is in content way easier than Titania, even after repeated explanation. All you can do is explain it, try again, and repeat the process. Eventually, everyone gets it.

I dread trial roulette now. Odds are I'm going to get Titania when I queue up, and there are usually enough inexperienced players in the group (that are, I would add, unwilling to listen to instruction on how to do the fight properly) to make completion virtually impossible. No amount of skilled play on my part can compensate for having half a group of people that didn't bother to learn how to play their jobs, let alone do the fight mechanics.

It was very painfully obvious last night in our Titania normal group that at least for half of them this was their first ever Trial. There's no way they could have made it this far. Constant dps check fails. Once or twice before the trees even got bigger. Brutal. Loads of deaths, stacking issues, even had the boss cleave half the group one pull. I stayed as long as I could (they were slowly getting better) but eventually someone in the party initiated an abandon.

Would be a good idea if the skip had a couple of prerequisites before it actually throws you into the newer content. Titan hard mode for example was a great filter way back in 2.0.

Or something along the lines of that bardams mettle boss but solo run and mandatory to unlock duty finder. And have it introduce mechanics like stack markers and such.

This problem will clear up after a few weeks of practice. And anytime you see a green leaf, just call out mechanics as they pop.

“Stack now”
“Get in a puddle”
“Kill the adds”
“Toggle your tank stance on”
“Face boss away”
“Get behind boss”

- these are short enough that you can type them into party and not suffer too much of a dps loss in a normal.

Adding markers to mobs really helps to control people if typing is limited.

That's a nice idea but it already fails at the basics. The amount of ppl I've seen who don't even know how to use their skills pretty much makes the dps check impossible even if they would get the mechanics right...BLM casting single target skills in a weird sequence on mob groups, RDM that jump at the weirdest moments, DRG who don't use their skills combos, MNKs who never heard of positional play (and true north for that matter)...

It's pretty messy and these ppl need a crash course on skill usage or better reading comprehension.

And don't get me started on off tanks who cannot deactivate tank stance. Or face the boss towards the group because cleave is not something they ever experienced before it seems.

Yeah I've noticed it too but lucky I have near unlimited patience for people making mistakes.

A lot indeed. Today, I got an especially infuriating group to say the least :

- DPS : 1 BRD 1 SMN. Summoner was not using his egi spells nor his aoe spells. I told him to. He said "fuck off, it's faster if I burst them 1 by 1. I told him that SMN has pretty bad burst, especially at his lvl (sub level 60). He bitched about it for like 10 minutes and finally said "noob, get a life, I don't come for the last boss hahaha". We kicked him. BRD was just... there. He was not talking nor using most of his spells it seemed. At least he was not a giant dick.

- Healer : oh boy... what a SCH it was. I think I never saw such a healer (in FF14 at least). He used his CD PRE PULLS ! Like, wtf man. He used his goddamn CD while we were running between fucking pulls. He used ALL of his CD on the last mob of a pack. He did not use Lucid Dream so he was out of MP every pull, because mister was also spamming me like crazy without using aetherflow abilites. He also spammed Physick on me when I was against the last mob of a pack, at 98% of my health. He used his AoE heals faaaar away from the team, so he healed himself only sometimes. He went in front of the boss with me sometimes just to check on me. He kept sending away Eos. He used AoE heals to heal me, the tank, and other times he used Single Target heals when the whole party took damages. Esuna was... just not on his bar I guess. In short, he did everything wrong. He did not talk, he did not listen to us... we also vote kicked him (the last boss being a "healer check" with many party wide AoE).

What. A. Dungeon that was.

What I noticed when leveling in this expansion.
First tank job: During early access, everything went smooth, the trials, the dungeons, no problems.
Second tank job: Right after early access, still smooth, my friend played healer so that helped a lot.
Third tank job: more up and down, my friend was playing dps so noticed some new healers doing strange things.
Forth and final tank job: My friend on healer again, so no problem there, multiple dps that clearly did not know what they were doing. Aoe as dps during big pulls? Na, single target better. Avoid clear marks on the ground? Na, standing in stuff is fun. Using single target rotation on bosses? Na, throw in a aoe attack here and there while also failing to do step 1 and 2 in combos.

As to why I leveled all the tanks first, I main tank and wanted to get rid of the leveling gear.

While I am happy that we are seeing more new players, I also think that it would be nice if they read what the different skills do. If you read them you can clearly see that some are combo skills, that some are aoe skills, that some are cooldowns and not "press al this shit prepull so it is mostly wasted" things.

However, most will become better sooner rather than later, but a few will never improve.
