Title covers the question!
Godbert Manderville owns the Gold Saucer, and he even makes a guest appearance in the main story quest, with Nanamo seeking his guidance on an important subject.
So, YES!
Wait, where did this come from? Are there sidequests that aren't canon?
I misworded, damn me! I mean is the adventures of Hildebrand Manderville canon?
Hildebrand is love, Hildebrand is life. The questlines are an absolute requirement in the game.
Yes yes they are so basically stay on Hildys mother good side if you know whats good for us or Hydaelen will be needing a new WoL.
You'll notice that even Godbert himself behaves differently if you compare the MSQ to the sidequests, so I maintain my original headcanon that there is a "Manderville Bubble" around those. Basically, if it's true within the game world, it's still true within the bubble. The bubble might reveal history or facts that we don't know. On the other hand, we can't ever be sure that anything that happens inside the bubble can transfer back out of it - as even the world lore writers and translators see those quests and are like, "Oh, man, this definitely doesn't make sense." lol.
The core answer becomes: If you want to be a lore purist, there's probably a one way bubble, but every individual player is free to decide for themselves just how canon to consider Hildibrand, but it only applies to them. (Kinda like the blank check to create your own timeline even though you can't change the SEQUENCE of events, just the time between them.)
It is my interpretation that the events of Hildebrand are canon - but are being filtered to us as viewers through a "silly" lens. E.g., there really is a Hildebrand, he really has an assistant named Nashu, he really does solve mysteries, and may very well be something of a bumbler. The truly crazy stuff we see, though? It is embellishment. It's much like how the Wandering Minstrel tells exaggerated tales of our encounters with various trials and raids, except without any NPC explicitly as the storyteller.
So, in broad strokes, you can consider the events of Hildebrand to have actually happened, but the more crazy aspects have likely been made up or exaggerated. So how crazy is "too crazy"? That varies. And I often change my mind, for that matter.
Note, that's just my own personal interpretation. It's what works for me. You are, of course, welcome to accept every detail as gospel, or dismiss the whole thing as too ludicrous to consider, or anything in between!
Having worked in a casino for the last seven years, I can tell you that sometimes, people are just wild and where they go, life throws logic (and I swear, physics) out the window. The Hildy quests are like that- reality that's unrealistic.
They're funny. But I hated having to massage his back all the time. Doesn't he have an assistant for that? And what's up with that superhuman strength? His dad could slay primals. Should've taken him to the First. The whole thing would have been over in five minutes.
Given all the "Next time on!", the ending curtains and all that it wouldn't surprise me if the very last Hildebrand quest ends with us talking to the Wandering Minstrel as he tells us of how the tale we told him has become a smash hit (though he may have embellished some parts.)
I don't want to live in a game world where the Hildebrand Quests aren't canon.
Not only is he canon but for the umpteenth time, I'm underlining this crucial fact and calling it...
Godbert Manderville and his wife Julyan are the final bosses of the Final fantasy XIV universe.
True story.
I figured he tried it once during a syndicate meeting and they all went... ,"OH HELL NO!" And then his wife hit him with her gigantic frying pan of doom for the embarrassment.
I always took Hildy as canon, even the crazy bits lol. Hildy and his family are just obviously fairly high level... er, somethings... to be able to handle that kind of damage and walk away. And Godbert might help tidy up any damages left in Hildy's wake with that vast Manderville fortune.
These guys are just clearly completely insane in all the best ways, and my WoL is spending her time going "How do I get myself into these situations!" and "Thank the twelve the scions aren't this insane..."
Manderville is about as canon as all the other side quests and FATEs you choose to complete or not. Did the WoL milk sheep? If you did, yes. It was nice being recognized by Goldbert as the person who hangs with his son when he appears.
Hildibrand was born with a rare reality warping defect, as a result everything around him just ends up being a bit silly.
Even his dad, a relatively normal chap when you meet him on his own, is effected by his sons unique affliction.
That's my view anyway, but in short I'd say they're not real canon, no.
Ah............ well considering that mentions of them show up all through the story I'd say they're canon
and if you've done the lvl 80 SCH quest Godbert is even mentioned XD
Oh, they're real people - no doubt about that. Well, Godbert, anyway; I don't think Hildy or Juli are mentioned outside of Hildebrand quests, so there could be some doubt there.
But can Godbert kill a Chimera with a Goldsmithing hammer? Can he use that hammer to restore a shattered vase to pristine condition? Can he subject his son to milie-high spinning piledriver (and have said son be none the worse for wear afterwards)? That's what this thread's all about.
You'll notice that Godbert is significantly more subdued on the occasions you meet him outside of a Hildebrand quest.
the reason godbert is more subdued when you meet him outside is cause you are meeting him from a business perspective. while in hildy quests you meet him on a personal basis and i do think juli is mentioned in the cooking questline at some point cant rem but i think she was vaguely mentioned.
The Hildibrand Quests are the true MSQ.
