trouble with a lvl 77 duty

I havent been playing that long, but my character si at lvl77 now, and Im stuck on duty, Full Steam Ahead. I keep dying near the end, and have been trying for 7 days
I am playing BLM. Can anyone give me an idea of what I might be doing wrong, or tips to get through this

Are you using the special ability middle-ish of your screen (Perfect Deception, Souldeep Invisibility, Leap of Faith) when they become available?

This. The special action really isn't easy obvious. You need to use those skills when they're available (starts when the dragon heads target you). You use the skill that makes you invisible, and while invisible you will get another skill that allows you to hit him

I am using the special skills, but my problem is that I dont get as far as the 2nd or 3rd time, because I get smacked by an electrical hit I cant avoid, or dont seem to be able to. I die everytime. I havwe gotten as far as 2nd invisible skill, 2nd shining blade, after that i get hit, even using heal, etc :(
Seriously wondering why Im having so many problems, as some find it easy. This is my 21st attempt today, on my 8th day, again usually that many a day. Im about to give up because its not fun any more :(

That sounds awful, I'm sorry you're experiencing that! In that case, all I can think of is using the self-heal ability before you know the big hit is coming (I wonder if you might also be able to use HP potions in addition to that if needed). There are YouTube videos of the fight available, watching those might also help in case you'll notice them doing something different than you are? I wish you the best of luck with the fight, hope you'll beat it really soon!

I checked a video of the fight because I didn't remember it that well. There are indeed some boss moves which you can't evade, but you also have many defensive abilities: the second hit of your main combo gives you a HP shield (Brutal Shell, constantly available), Nebula is a strong defensive cooldown (1 minute cooldown), and you have the HP potion ability (30 second cooldown). If you have gotten through the second invisibility, you can certainly do this! I would say just focus on evading the moves you can, and actively use these defensive abilities to your advantage, making sure you have high enough health and shield(s) when the unavoidable hits happen.

Ive been slowly working through the story, so i only cleared this myself a couple days ago. The healing potion you have is good for about 35k and usable every 30 or so seconds with no apparent limit. Any time you see your health dip into the 60s or lower, pop the potion. The boss has an unavoidable attack(sky-something) that does roughly 1/4 of your health - this is a good ability to use your defensive move on. I focused more on dodging then attacking when the dragon goes into seeker mode, using the jumping attack to get back into melee range when the last hit box drops. Pop your offensive buff as much as you can when you have a window to attack so you can shorten the fight a little. Then comes the big moves. When the dragon heads all target you, i found myself moving to the center of the arena before popping the invis move to give myself more room to maneuver into hitting him with the 2nd part of the attack. Everything kinda repeats, you do the big invis attack a second time. Then for the last part of the fight... lets spoiler this thing just to be polite...

When you try to do the invis move for the 3rd time, Ranj'it sees through the move and stops you - twice. At this point you need to weather his attacks for a bit while effectively super-paralyzed and only sometimes able to move. This is where keeping your health high for the rest of the fight will benefit you. Pop your defensive move, use the potion as much as you can, and if you can pull off any dodges do it. After a bit Thancred will say that he has one more trick up his sleeve, and a final invis move will succeed. From here you just need to set up the last hit and you win the fight.

Hope that helps a little. This fight is long enough that it might also benefit you to take a break and come at it fresh. Maybe level another class for a bit(do you craft?), then take another whack at it from a fresh perspective. Its certainly clearable(though a bit hard for sure), so best of luck!

Thanks Frizze. Im lvl 77, BLM, and you are 70, I should, should, be able to do this. I just dont know why im not able to :( Yes, that sky attack, its the one I have problems with. Up until now, I have managed everything else alone, nowI feel really useless, still cant do it :(

My thing just isnt updating for some reason. Im 77/78 BLM, with most of my crafting and gathering classes advanced about halfway from 70-80. Not that your class and level matter a ton for this duty, as its one of the ones where youre controlling another character.

I'm so late to the game on commenting but I'm stuck on the same duty. Was AFK for a while and even lost my house because of RL stuff.

I still haven't completed it but your job doesn't matter as far as I can tell because you have to play as Thancred. I seriously do not like playing in character roles of jobs I have no clue about. But FF seems to love to throw those in once in a while. I hope you managed to get through it. I'm going to keep trying myself as much as it makes me want to punch someone in the teeth. LOL!

Keep trying, indeed. When you do, you actually get buffed more and more to make it easier on the third and later attempts. I'm not sure if it only keeps track during a single play session or forever, though, so you might need to repeatedly attempt back to back to get the buff.
