Just a correction, it is revealed that Bahamut was a Darkness-aligned calamity. Yes, the 13th may have been a failed attempt to cause a darkness calamity, but they succeeded with Bahamut.

if you can tell me where thats revealed (and dont say the exarchs presentation cause he didnt say it was a darkness calamity. he showed it as a red black world which in a lot of games is the color of the nuetral element.) then cool if not im still saying people who say the 7th was a darkness rejoining are full of it.

If I remember the cutscene correctly:

[0] The Thirteenth is destroyed when Igeyorhm accidentally triggers a Flood of Darkness (no element)
[1] The Fifth was Rejoined in a Wind Calamity
[2] The Twelfth was Rejoined in a Lightning Calamity
[3] The Second was Rejoined in a Fire Calamity
[4] The Third was Rejoined in an Earth Calamity
[5] The Sixth was Rejoined in an Ice Calamity

[7] The Seventh was Rejoined in a Calamity of all elements tilted towards the astral charge (by Darkness)

In Shadowbringers, we learn that the First was almost Rejoined in a Calamity of all elements tilted towards the umbral charge (by Light).

What will come next (if anything) is unknown. We have gone all the way around the Elemental Wheel and both polarities, so in theory we are done. Why did history follow this very familiar pattern? We don't know! Elidibus seems dedicated to killing the Warrior of Light before he tries any more plans. If we put a stop to him first, we may never see another!

Just wondering, for all the rejoining with a specific element, were those element tilted toward ulbral/ Astral or balanced?
And also, do they have to be different? I dont see why they couldn't cause 2 water calamity

I'll have to double-check myself, but I'm pretty sure was the Seventh that was rejoined in the Ice Calamity and the Eighth for the Astral Aspected/Bahamut one.

Remember that going by the assumption that the shards are indeed in order going clockwise from the Source (which indeed seems to be the case since we know the First and 13th are clockwise and anticlockwise to either side of it), the 7th would be directly opposite of the Source itself.

In most cases, yes, but the Source was always represented by a larger sphere than the rest, which offsets it a tad. I drew a diagram and marked them off as I watched the cut scene after Emet showed us which one the 13th was. As I said, I'll have to double-check when I log on and rewatch the scenes.

I think they could theoretically but it would be harder. If they need to cause 13 rejoinings they'd have to.

If I remember G'raha's lecture right aether is sort of like a gas in that it likes to go from places of higher concentration to places of lower concentration, calamities from an aetheric perspective involve a shard's aether totally flooding into the source. So, if we have a water calamity than ends with say, Shard 10's largely water-aspected aether being totally relocated onto the source, wouldn't it be hard to usher in a consecutive water-aspected calamity?

The Sound is what bugs me the most honestly, I lean toward it being the fault of the ancients (that's the usual trope, they tread too close to the sun), not to mention we only hear of it from Emet-Selch's side who is notoriously pro-ancient. The fact that some ancients saw fit to split their existence into shards also makes me lean towards this route.
The possibility that a third existence outside of Zodiark and Hydaelyn also exists and is pretty exciting, but nothing of any sort has been mentioned like that so far, I think?

thing is it sort of gave me ff7 vibe in ff7 there were the anciants(aeriths race) who were the closest to the planet which gave them the ability to use magic. then later on jenova comes and the planet saw jenova as a threat which drove the anciants mad in a bid to kill jenova. anciants pretty much all died but a few (aeriths family) who were to young at the time to really fight. reminds me a lot of amuarotine and the sound the sound could be the planet senseing a threat to itself and the terminus could have been a defense mechanism to fight that threat. that could be an alien race landing on the planet (middy and the eggs maybe?) or it could be that the amuarotines were somehow harming the planet without realising.

My personal theory on this is that the ascians brought it on themselves. These are a people who are literally born with the ability to bend and warp reality into whatever they want. Don't have any meat to eat? Will it into creation. Need clothes? Will it into creation!

They do this to the point they have actual government regulation and an entire culture revolved around keeping people from creating insane designs willy-nilly. It was done for safety reasons, but it occurred to me that their habit of simply willing things into being was probably the indirect cause of their calamity. They weren't allowing nature to evolve things naturally, or ensuring their creations fit naturally into the ecosystem. And yet they existed, and presumably, muscled their way in. The same is likely true for mining, agriculture, and every other aspect of life.

And every time they tugged on the world's balance they pulled it a tiny bit more out of balance until finally the entire system buckled out from under them. Because even if the will of the star wasn't made manifest, there was still a delicate natural balance and they insisted on mucking with due purely to the overabundance of aether on their world and their own curiosity.

They were so certain they were superior to everything else in the world that they didn't even TRY to heed any warnings from the elementals, which I suspect was the world's original medium for communication before Hydaelyn and Zodiark. Something their fractured descendants have managed to grasp, at least a little, after having it crammed in their faces that BAD THINGS (tm) will happen if you mess with things irresponsibly.

That's my take anyway.

I mean, if it's really important that they cover all the elements and both polarities, then we know what the next will be: Light, again. Because they've yet to succeed in causing a Light Rejoining. They did Darkness twice, it's true - but it failed the first time. Light failed this time (albeit in a significantly less catastrophic manner), so try, try again!

I've been assuming, though I could be wrong, that they only needed eight Calamities. That would push the entirety of the balance tilted towards the source, and the rest may just naturally fall on their own without needing to deal with all the silliness they've had to do for a while. It's a little hard to say, though, because no one's said anything about their plans beyond the Eighth Calamity.

I wonder to what exactly She is referring.. Is it the aftermath of Zodiark's summoning or could it be something happening earlier?.. Could Darkness somehow got sentient and put into motion the events leading to Terminus Day? Or did Zodiark was a imperfect creation and started acting like a primal..?

Oh yeah I forgot about that. That might reference post Zodiark created balance, but still interesting to note.

A curious thing to make note of is that, iirc, one of the Ascians, either Elidibus or Emet-Selch, I don't remember which, make mention that only one more rejoining is needed for Zodiark to break free from his prison. Yeah, the Ascians want *all* the shards rejoined to the source, but Zodiark would likely be strong enough to accomplish that for them. If the calamity elemental alignment ever actually mattered at all, then what if it only mattered for freeing Zodiark?

I get the feeling this was more an assumption we made based on info given to us. When they were marketing ShB, they said we would be preventing the 8th and final umbral calamity. The Ascians themselves make reference to a "final key", and we believed that to be a key to a prison... But in the end there was no mention of Zodiark suddenly appearing when the 8th calamity was over.

True, and from what we're told of the dark future, it sounds like the planet is essentially dying - "death to the very soil" and all.

It's even possible Emet stuffed up and didn't realise quite how long-term catastrophic Black Rose would be. The Ascians' plans rely on building civilisations in which to sow chaos, and instead he killed the whole thing off.

Yeah I may very likely be wrong about what I said, but yet this doesn't actually quite disprove the existence of Zodiark after the 8th calamity. We know the Ascians intend to sacrifice much of the life on the Source to Zodiark so that he can bring their brethren back. Its quite possible that the apocalyptic future is part of the process of sacrificing to Zodiark. It could also be a result of the war against Hydaelyn, which would be in full effect once Zodiark was free.

Lives aren't being sacrificed in the dark future, they've been killed by the Black Rose. It's explained when Urianger describes his "vision" (ie. relaying the Exarch's account of history from what is still our future, but his past) in 'Unto the Truth' - the "passive polarity" aspect of the gas reacted with the influx of passive-aspected aether from the First, driving it to spread far beyond its initial use on the battlefield. Vast numbers of the population die, the ground is poisoned, and the survivors go to war over what little remains.

We don't know if the Ascians can "sacrifice" what's already dead, but I would assume not.

We also don't know *how* the Ascians sacrifice to Zodiark, we're only given glimpses of a few Amaurotians vanishing while in line at the DMV. It's very possible Zodiark doesn't care how the sacrifice perishes, just so long as their Aether goes to him - as that is what all Primals require, Aether. It should also be noted that the umbral polarity of the gas may very well just be turning the land to an inactive state, similar to that of the Empty, but not quite so extreme.

I'd assume it is something similar to how that one Ancient at the end of Akademia Anyder sacrifices his life energies to create Quetzacotl. Except instead of themselves theu use others.
