I didn't have these errors on my original install with this copy. I also wiped the computer of anything that was FFXIV related before I started the clean install. -

unless the disks are damaged or your dvd drive nearing it's end ,i cant see how you get those errors -

Some of these questions will be seemingly out of nowhere, but I just want to rule out as many things as I can since what you're encountering may be less FFXIV specific which would be outside the realm of SE's support.
What type of system specs do you have?
Either running a DxDiag.exe, Save All Information button at the bottom, saving that text file, then grabbing the contents and dumping it here or running the FFXIV Config, System Information, and dumping that information here?
If this is a laptop, is this an NVidia card with Optimus drivers?
Was there a time where FFXIV was running well consistently? Or has it always been kind of crashing to the desktop? Was there a particular FFXIV patch that you noticed it start to go bad?
Do other games such as the Call of Duty games still function well?
Are you low on disk space on your hard drives?
Any power outages recently (if yes, are you using an UPS or surge protector)?
If you grab another game from Steam, be that a free game or no, to see if it'll let you install it or if it'll be corrupt. (don't uninstall ones you have, grab maybe one of the free, large ones like DC Universe or Alpha Protocol something, the former may require patching to simulate some situations).
I know you've already been slamming up against the issues. I just wanted to get a better understanding of what was happening and perhaps in doing so, may give others more insight as to how to direct you. -

Was there a time where FFXIV was running well consistently? Or has it always been kind of crashing to the desktop? Was there a particular FFXIV patch that you noticed it start to go bad? Have you installed new memory / different memory since the time it was working?
Any power outages recently (if yes, are you using an UPS or surge protector)?
If you grab another game from Steam, be that a free game or no, to see if it'll let you install it or if it'll be corrupt. (don't uninstall ones you have, grab maybe one of the free, large ones like DC Universe or Alpha Protocol something, the former may require patching to simulate some situations).
On the FFXIV update when does the error message occur? Right at the beginning before updates begin, when the update bar has progressed some, after the update window ends and is attempting to install the files?
Do you have a standard mouse you can try instead of the Razer mouse or that Death mouse that seems to be listed in your specs. I know it's silly, but some people's crashes have been side effects such as disabling the vibration of their gamepad, unplugging a USB gamepad, and a handful of other things.
And the last and possibly more difficult to find, a memory test on your RAMs.

Or perhaps not as robust, the windows built-in Memory Diagonstics Tool (Start Menu, I type Memory and it shows up, I don't think I had to download it). It should pop up and ask if you want to restart your computer. Go through the steps to see if anything comes back with errors.
I think others far far far more qualified than I may see this sometime throughout the week.
I has a feeling these issues are all linked and if we resolve the one, may end up fixing the corrupt file installation, the updater error, and the occasional crashing to desktop. -

Modern bios doesn't do a thorough RAM-check. It just looks if the RAM is responding normally. A broken RAM can cause any error (since the data is altered randomly) or bluescreens.

Contacting the mainboard- and RAM-Manufacturers about the problem might be a good idea. Can't cause any harm at least. You could try using only 1 RAM (try each) but the performance will be halved then (no dual channel obviously).

UPDATE: I decided to install Final Fantasy XIV on my reserve machine and while installing the CD/DVD portion, not one error. I will be moving that copy to an external hard drive and then moving the copy to the main machine for the update portion of the install. So in conclusion I would like to say, if you are crashing to your desktop while playing this game just give it time and see if it sorts itself out. Don't reinstall Final Fantasy XIV. After ~2 days I have finally reached the end of a problem. All because I thought I was doing the right thing. Check the SMART info on your hard drive, maybe dying. The program SpeedFan is free and can give you that data.

Thanks for reporting back. Let us know if you encounter the crash-to-desktop errors now that you've ported over a finished install from another hard drive. Want to see if linked.
