I've been experiencing this issue for over a year now with DX11. The temp fix I found was dropping down to DX9 but now with Shadowbringers I can no longer do that, I'm trailing for raid groups soon and do not want to effect their play experience and mine with having to crash out of the game randomly because of this. I've scoured the internet and these forums trying to find a fix and found nothing that has worked. It seems other have the same problem as well.
This crash happens all over the place, and isn't linked to any action or zone. I've had it crash in dungeons, in town, while being active and some times even when being afk standing still.

Only programs like Discord or an internet browser, Steam and the such. I've upgraded my hardware several times since having this happen to me and I only seem to have a problem with FFXIV.

I have this same issue, been happening for a long time now on my Windows 10 install.
The game also takes quite a while to load (and to exit.)
Re-installed several times and finally have resorted to installing Windows 7 on a spare HDD and running FFXIV in Windows 7 instead of Windows 10, and it has no issues. -

There are a few things you can try to alleviate the issue. I'm not quite sure what you have tried so far so some of these may be a repeat:
1) Do a clean reinstall of your graphics card drivers (even if they are already up to date).
2) Disable other unnecessary programs and overlays (Geforce experience, Steam overlay, etc.).
3) Try a clean boot. Simply open the task manager and select the 'Start up' tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC. This will make sure that no background processes are interfering with the game.
4) You may also want to try a reinstallation of the game. When you do, make sure to remove the locally-saved data folder (located My Documents > My Games > Final Fantasy XIV). Be sure to make a backup of this just in case it doesn't resolve the issue.

I found the issue I think. I haven't had crashing all weekend.
All I did was disable discord's admin rights, and disabled the overlay. I can't use discord to talk anymore (PTT won't work with discord de-elevated and backgrounded)
So there's an issue here between those two applications. Glad I found it though. -

If there is a conflict between Discord and FFXIV, then it's far from the only cause of DX11 problems. I tried uninstalling Discord entirely and still got a crash after 2-3 hours of play.

I’ve had the same problem. After trying many solutions my fix is to reseat my GPU and RAM. I guess ffxiv is susceptible to even a minor stutter from gpu or ram (which other games can tolerate just fine).

I'm having the same directx crashes as well. I just recently came back to FF14 & my game seems to be crashing a lot yesterday for some weird reason. I'm not sure what's going on tbh & I've already tried various troubleshooting steps before making this post. Could someone please help me? Thank you. I'll attach a screenshot of the last known error I got when my game crashed. If you need any more information to help assist me better then please ask.

I don't think we can say that they aren't doing anything about it... they just aren't updating us one what's going on on their end. There are too many people with this issue for them to be idle about it, but their communication on the matter could be much better.

I'd appreciate even the smallest of statements that Square is aware of the issue and is actively looking into it. The fact that it didn't appear on the list of 'known issues' within the 5.01 patch notes concerns me greatly.

I've been getting these crashes a lot more since 5.01, too.
The only trend I've noticed is that they seem more prone to occurring while abilities are being used, as I've crashed shortly after using Plunge on DRk and also immediately after using Eruption with BLU in a city. -

I, too, have tried everything I have found on the forums and Reddit and nothing has worked. It's actually gotten worse over the past few days. I have resorted to just using DX9 for now, which says it is unsupported, but the game at least functions with it. It's definitely annoying.Quote:

No overlays
running DX11
highest graphics with reshade @ 1440P with G-sync 144hz
GTX1080ti - 7700K - IX Formula - 32Gb corsair platinum ram with xmp running
Game is installed on a NVMe SSD along with my OS on a seperate NVMe.
Main programs i have visibly open on one of my 5 screens are:
Chrome
VLC
steam friends
task manager
discord
messenger chrome add-in application
all in all im running 293 processes and 4.09K threads
I mean to really start to narrow it down it would be great if the ones that have the problem did another Windows install (a new partition) and updated their drivers to the latest for both graphics and windows. If it crashes then, then it probably is a problem with the combination of the components (or their settings in bios) in the pc or outside of pc (like usb devices plugged in to pc) otherwise if it doesn't crash you can start to install the programs one by one until the game crashes or when you have all your application installed as you have on the main windows install. Sure it can also be a combination of both, that some programs maybe reacts badly with some components in certain circumstances too. If possible i think this way will narrow it down a lot but it requires someone willing too along with spare time. -

As a last resort, I deleted FFXIV from my PC and I'm currently re-installing it. It's a widespread issue if you look at this thread or even just hop over to the Technical Issues part of the forum. I'm doubtful that it's coincidentally an issue with everyone's PC or setup rather than something related to a game file or recent patches.
