You can't expect a small indie company like SE to do something so difficult
No, thank you - its bad enough to have people afk on their mounts next to a quest-NPC... I'd rather not have those covered in Behemoths, Chocobos and giant dragons and not being able to see who I'm talking to at all...
Problem is, players can still park on top of an NPC without talking to it. One solution might be to make any player talking to an NPC remain mounted, but disappear from the view of all other players. I'd also apply this to Summoning Bells, which I iften find very hard to click when crowded.
My only wish is to automatically dismount when attacking.
It'd be pretty rude not to.
Oh no...you have to push one more button in a game...which requires you to push buttons.
The NPCs don't like your high and mighty attitude looking down on them while mounted, so yeah.
But seriously, this is actually better than before. It used to be like you have to manually dismount in order to talk to one.
i think how mounts work in xiv is way more convenient than in wow. constant dismounts, dismount disorientation, dismounting while indoors
I'm okay with how it is, I just wish mounting didn't count as casting a spell. Not being able to mount while running is annoying.
Agreed, that is a problem (even though you can still target the NPC by some button-combo I forgot...), but saying "Well, its still happening, so why not make it worse?" just doesnt sound like a great argument to me... just because you can still have people on mounts next to the NPC doesnt mean they cant take meassures to reduce this number as much as possible, for example by dismounting you.
In Swtor (Star Wars: The Old Republic), there's a 5 dollar microtransaction that lets all characters on your account cast the mounting spell while moving. Totally worth the 5 bucks, and I'd spend it here too for that, lol.
Being able to cast the mount spell while running is one of those QoL things that feels sooo much better than it sounds. I struggle to get used to games without it! >=(
You know what I'd like them to fix with mounts? Let me use items without having to manually dismount. If I must be unmounted to use the item, at least have it automatically dismount me when I try to use it, provided I'm on solid ground of course.
Been doing the Sylph beast tribe quests on my 2nd character and forgot how much I hated the Sylph quests first time through, one of the glaring problems being, as an example, having to manually dismount so i can throw morbol bile at those imperial soldiers...
My understanding from the last time this type of thread came up is that you get dismounted so your character can use any scripted emotes that are not usable on mounts.
Man EA really got their hands deep into that game huh?
selling a what should be in-game feature for a microtranscation. yikes.
And please don't let that happen to this game, the mounts and costumes are one thing but if we start selling gameplay features on the mogstation i'm dipping, that's mobile game practices
Knowing how people work, if they were allowed to stay mounted when talking to NPCs, we'd have important NPCs buried under the biggest mounts humanly possible making it damn near impossible to see.
So I for one am glad we're forced to dismount.
It's hilarious, and troubling, that some people think this game is even remotely threatening Blizzard or WoW. Fanboy trash aside, this game is niche by comparison. Amazing how easily some people can be mislead and misinformed, especially in this day and age.
Google, DuckDuckGo, (insert your preferred search engine here). Use one.
Never seen anyone cover the tome NPCs. Why is that? Being forced off our mounts is not the only way to stop people from standing on top of NPCs, so it is an unnecessary limitation for players.
The dismount use to bug me now I dismount before even talking to the NPC, my bug is that I can't hand all the quests I have for the NPC at once (after speaking once) and have to start talking each time to hand in each one, and if the NPC is sitting having them stand then sit then stand then sit poor NPC
One thing WoW eventually started doing that I hope FFXIV starts doing too is have quests register as complete and bring up the next quest while in the field if you are doing a quest chain in a specific area.
So for example someone might ask you to go out and kill x number of things. You do it, then that quest giver contacts you and you are able to complete the quest right there without having to run back and turn it in. Then you get the next quest in the quest chain.
Just want to point out about that mtx QoL in SWTOR: that's an option for f2p players. If you go the sub route, you don't need to pay.
EDIT: Also need to point out I haven't played the game in over 2 years so I don't know if they changed that.
Well last I checked, and heard, is that FFXIV is at 14 million active accounts (which explains why all of NA is locked out of character creation, half of JP is locked out, and EU has some troubles) and WoW has only around 2 million left based on active character counts when it is unknown exactly how many characters there are per player.
In fact Blizzard plans their content releases for WoW around FFXIV and have done so for years. Even WoW's 8.2 patch release was put 3 days before ShB early access to try to shore up for the impact of ShB launch. That is not something a company does unless they feel threatened by a competitor.
Honestly it feels more the other way around, WoW is not even really a threat to FFXIV anymore.
Being forced of mounts isn't at all annoying, you know what is?
Playing astrologian, having your heals not be as affective as a WHM or SCH
and having some arse tell you that you're bad, spending all your MP and to keep him alive while they pull every mob in the dungeon
after you explain to them, "WHM and SCH have a better time healing after the SHB changes." and they don't give a crap because why? you're a healer
and you should be able to keep them alive all day every day, with the normal crit/Det build. Only to have them tell you "if you don't know how to play healer,
just get off." That's annoying.
