Same thing again.

Started on my 6th zone in Shadowbringers.

1. Collect aether currents
2. Do enough fates to get increased mount speed.
3. Do quests for the locals to get upgraded gear and aether currents
4. Deal with the end boss eventually.

I've done this 5 times now. The only thing keeping my interest is how the "light" problem will be resolved.

It's almost like breaking something down into basic core elements can make anything sound similar.

How much more do you actually expect within the limitations of this game?

It sounds *exactly* as every other game i know: Go to area > do things > finish the problem > go to the next. I am mostly doing roulettes to level up so i can chill and complete the maps with other jobs when I finish the main scenario.

You know you don't...have to.... do all the aether currents and mount speed stuff before moving zones? I didn't finish gathering half the aether currents until after I finished the MSQ.

Sometimes I fel like I'm the only one who actually enjoys hunting for aether currents heh.

1. Collect aether currents - Be Happy that it's not like WoWs flight, do you want to get every beast tribe to max just to have p1 unlocked.
2. Do enough fates to get increased mount speed. - I found that I did this completely passive and after 30 mins had it unlocked and the gems to buy it, even before coming across the vendor
3. Do quests for the locals to get upgraded gear and aether currents - core element to most games do quest get gear.
4. Deal with the end boss eventually - like every other game in this gen that's ever been made.

How you have changed each zone so they didn't have any of these aspects?

There really isn't much point going around a zone collecting all the green aether currents when it's the red quest related ones that will keep your flying grounded. What I typically do when exploring areas of a new expansion is spam the aether compass while going to my destination to see if there are any nearby. If there is I will pick them up, but I won't go out of my way for a current that 300+ yalms away.

If all you’re interested in is the flying there are much better flight simulators out there than FFXIV.

If all you’re interested in is the flying there are much better flight simulators out there than FFXIV.

Well, basically you could point out that entire game is basing on exact same principles.

Raids, dungeons, trials, alliance raids, pvp everything.
Even Witcher 3 is not going to look deep when you realise all what you do in that game is... go there, watch cutscene, kill, go there and repeat.
Damn real life is the same, go to bed, wake up, go to work, come back, play FFXIV, go to bed. xD

1: Do stuff.
2: Do other stuff.
3: Do different other stuff.
4: Repeat.

If you simplify your terms enough there's literally nothing in the entire universe that doesn't work this way.

Naah you're not.
I always got a kick out of getting the attunement the moment I finish the MSQ of a zone. :D

As for the increased ride speed: didn't see the point, waste of prerfectly good gems if you ask me. It's not as if the zones were huge and we were on foot.

Exactly this.

I'm glad FF14 does the same things that work. Unlike WoW which goes "hey, flying seems cool... let's delete it!", "hey, some classes are looking fun, let's re-do them from scratch!", "hey, gearing seems good, let's mega-rng-titanforge it with rng sockets!", "hey that reforge feature seems handy, let's delete it", "hey, apexis and that mission table were very unpopular, we'll double up on that".

You enter a new WoW expansion literally hoping they only wreck your class a little and dreading the fact that literally any feature you enjoy could be removed.

By all means Enix, throw the same enjoyable game at me. I'm fine with that.

I actually enjoyed exploring one more map at the "end" of the story. I was pleased when I entered it, another atmosphere, another great soundtrack. Another small "adventure", while I was already guessing/sad that the story is about to end. Maybe you forgot how other MMO's work?
You had the chance to stop and do something else once in a while. Nobody is telling you to burn yourself out.

.. They added literally hundreds of hours worth of content that ISN'T MSQ progression. If you ONLY find value in the MSQ then alright, point I suppose but it isn't as if we were surprised they did this?

Like literally making fates relevant again. My hands are screaming at me for doing over 120+ fates in the last few days but my wallet is very /very/ happy that we get rewards for doing them.

In Shadowbringers we visit the first shard, the birthplace of the Warriors of Drakness we met in Heavensward. If you recall their story you know that they were to good as heros in their world and tipped the balance heavly in favour of the light, thus causing a flood of light that destroyed most of their world and now threatens to wiped out the little thats left.
Because of that the first has no night - its always glaringly bright, which is obviously a problem (wait and see for yourself when you reach those areas - it almost hurts your eyes and feels weird to look at your Eorzea-time and realise that its still extremly bright despite it being past midnight).

...I dont want to spoil anymore, though. But the light problem is basically the flood of light that Minfilia went to stop at the end of Heavensward.
