'Cause this ain't 4chan

Ahoy mateys!
To start with, this thread isnt about disagreeing to something, its the point about how to disagree.

So there is a huge communication going on in the XIV forums...which is...pretty great!
But nowadays many threads seem to get hated all the way.
I love reading the forums seeing what XIV-comrades have to say and what the devs have in store.
Its ok to joke around and posting harmless nonsense-posts,
but just today I've read over 3-4 threads where people tried to discuss an issue and tried to give a statement, but get punished by receiving posts where they nearly laugh at them or even worse using personal attacks.
"Oh my, its THAT thread again"
"Of course INSERT NAME has to argue with it, he always...."

Seeing flaming on certain threads, I feel uncomfortable to contribute something to these threads.
And what surprises me the most: these offensive posts get more "like"s than the ones that help the discussion.

I know for sure that there will be always offensive people in any forum, game, burger drive-through
but if this thread will reach one or two people like "yeah, I really should shift down just one gear" I'd feel glad for sounding like a cry-baby.

No, but seriously, if you're going to post something, atleast use the search bar to make sure there has been discussion previously made recently.

EDIT: We are fortunate enough to not be limited by 10 pages, so search is very plausible!

With time you learn to ignore thoes flame post.

There is such thing as beating a dead horse. Chances are, when you see a "OH, IT'S THIS THREAD AGAIN" post, it's because the topic has been discusses to death.

As far as the rude thing, quite a few people on these forums suffer from Unwarranted Self Importance, so they feel they need to be a turd to others because they're special.

The gaming community at large is full of trolls. I've never seen a gaming forum that wasn't chock full of them except for guild websites and things like that.

Here's an excellent example of a non-gaming forum where people know how to act with respect. (And know how to not spam the forums with useless drivel and multiple threads on the same topic, thus destroying any value a search box once had.)

You're right, these forums are so bad that it was probably almost not worth you posting 982 times as of this post...

And not all of 4chan is /b/...or at least, it wasn't.

In fact I'd say they've gotten a lot better lately. But that's like saying the cancer growing up your leg stopped and they'll have to chop it off.

Hating on the haters. Telling other people what to do. Saying what has been said before. No contribution to FFXIV.

I just leave sarcastic remarks around. It never really works but then again neither would a dislike button.

This topic made me want to give some kind of insightful speech on how to be a better person, maybe even grant a few life changing epiphanies. But then I realized that I'm completely unqualified and human interaction doesn't even make sense to me most of the time.

Forums regularly piss me off and the only way I know of to make things any better is to close the browser before I start typing something, no matter how good my intentions.

I really, really wish I could get this across to myself, as would many on these boards I fairly assume.

They are just regular trolls here (Trolling.. I think the term is quite misused nowadays. Back then, when the term started to spread, masterminds got called troll. Masterminds, since they managed to outsmart other people, make them mad as hell, yet get away with it.)

The 4chan stuff: 4chan is not just about /b/, or /v/. There are many other boards too (which are much different, if not better). /b/ is full of kids, youngsters, who are posting "cool" stuff (gore, CP, etc). Sometimes a discussion, some neat idea, a fun thread pops up, but that's it. Oh, and spam. ("Remember, when /b/ was good?") If you post something, they might jump on it. Kids, nowadays. (Not your personal army, will still do everything you ask/say.)

And /v/ ... /v/ hates video games. Basically you could have a huge folder of comics, drawn by people from /v/ themselves, about how bad /v/ is when it comes to discussing video games. Try it. Start a thread about a video game. You will see soon enough.

Back the the topic, they are not from 4chan. Just simple guys, found the forum, and the usual. As one person said before me, they are starving for attention. (Avatar, and trip ..uhm..guys from 4chan are the same, exact kind.) What makes me mad, is the fact, that memefaces and those stupid unfunny "comics" are getting more and more popular. Eventually, they get posted everywhere.
