Old dungeons are extremely quick and easy now

Is it just me, or are old dungeons kind of a joke now? In almost all of the dungeons under level 70 that I've run since the start of 5.0, enemies' health bars have been dropping extremely fast and I don't know why. Anyone else notice this?

I have a theory as to why. Could be because the tanks no longer have the damage reduction from tank stance, as well as healers who have an aoe nuke that no longer has such a long cast time. And it seems the devs didn't rebalance older content to account for this. That's just me though.

Or did everyone suddenly become really good at their rotations? Nah that couldn't be it :rolleyes:

I felt this as well.

Whenever they do an expansion job-rebalance, they seem to try very hard to make sure no one gets weaker due to the changes. This builds up as each expansion does its own rebalance, and anything that's several expansions behind are way easier now. It is also worth mentioning that a lot of jobs' AOE kits have been improved (or at the very least, unchained to the quickly-depleted TP bar), so that really speeds up killing trash as well.

As far as rebalancing old content goes, I suspect their opinions on older content being faster/easier is probably "That's fine by us."

It's a combination of our job changes plus higher ilvl syncs.

I've noticed this myself, normally this kinda thing happens the most with old endgame stuff, idk i feel like old leveling content should be buffed at least a little bit. The original intent behind level sync was so this kinda thing didn't happen. It's kinda sad to think only 70-80 content has any kind of stake to it as it were.

check 5.0 patch notes. almost every skill has gotten an boost in damage dealt.

but think about the people leveling who may not have the same gear level as you do.

I ran a level 50 roulette today as SCH. Everyone was beefy enough that my fairy could solo heal them, assuming I rotated her cooldowns (I literally did not push a non-fairy related heal button throughout the whole dungeon). As such I was able to devote 100% of my attention to the Art of War/Ruin spam. It was boring as all heck but I assume the extra damage sped thing said up decently.

It’s a combination of things. One of which is new expansion balances are geared more towards current content. Older content will feel more and more dated as we go forward because we aren’t playing the same game as back then. I’m sure if you had a full group of new players with average gear it’d be about as difficult as intended. But 4 lv 80s running through content they know like the back of their hands? Speed run time.

End of the day this just means newer players can get through older content faster and catch up with everyone playing the new hotness.

The major factors are likely the major increase in tank damage output and everyone getting AoE combos.

Tanks now have a lot more strength due to all of the Tank accessories now having strength built in and they are dealing full damage all the time. This is a major increase in output on top of all the increases in potency.

I love it. Not really interested in getting the run 10001 dungeons achievement.

It's not just you. They really do seem easier.

DNC and RDM have stupid high potencies for their basic skills that are technically accessed in early levels but have potencies geared for their level introductions. And everything else people are mentioning.

Seems to me like most times when I select a dungeon for duty finder, I am synced with at least 1 other person working through the game for the first time (or at least as a new character) and two others who are being level synced through the dungeon roulette. We have always finished content super quick. I assumed it was because of the experienced people knowing exactly where to go and what to do, and therefore not wasting any time learning it for the first time. Actually some content has been annoying to go through because I am with people who just want to get through it, probably because they've done it a hundred times already...

But every now and again I will get instanced with a whole group of newbs and only one or two veteran players. Recently, the Moogle King (which we wiped 2x on before getting the mechanics of the fight) and Leviathan (which also resulted in 3 wipes before figuring it out) caused me some grief, but also turned out to be the most enjoyable boss fights I've encountered thus far; most likely due to having to figure things out on my own.

All that being said, I am thinking maybe the older content is easier because veteran players are really good at their roles and have run most dungeons several, if not dozens, of times. I can't really speak to the updates because I have not been playing this game consistently over the years.

I've noticed this as well, and the reason is as others have stated. A big reason why the content is easier is because all the classes had their skills improved in some way, some more than others. Party DPS is higher, tanks have better passive mitigation, and healers don't need to be as focused to do well. It works for new content, however, old content has been trivialized as a result. I hope those clever people at Square find a way to maintain just some of the mechanics and challenges of older content without sacrificing the direction they're taking the game in now.

I ran Antitower again a few days ago after almost 2 years of not running it and I was shook by how easy it is now. Everything dies by sneezing on them and most of the bosses barely hit the end of their first phase before they die. I remember when it was released. ]:

Pretty sure by Dzmael Darkhold every job has an actual aoe move and potencies for most attacks have been increased. With no TP melee/tanks can spam their aoe moves all day long. Jobs like MNK get a huge benefit with keeping up twin snakes and getting into rockbreaker because of it as well. WHM has Holy, SCH Art of War, AST Gravity(with lightspeed as well), it's no secret that we're clearing through trash much quicker then old days where a WAR would have to wait to regen tp after spamming overpower.


I'm glad because it's a reason to get more people to understand when to AOE, because you'll still enter content where they believe single target attacks when there are three or more make complete sense.

I just started doing roulettes for lower level content (for tomestones), and was suprised at what a faceroll they all were. I thought all the lower level stuff was scaled for player / item level in this game so any dungeon would be as hard as the first time you ran it.
