How is GNB's personal mitigation?

One of my favorite things about Dark Knight has always been its insane mitigation. Personally, I really love feeling like an immovable beserker who takes little to no damage. This is one of the reasons I always go for the Tank/Defender class in just about every game I play.


However, I really despise the new DRK overall, so naturally I'm starting to look at GNB. It seems pretty fun and I really love the aesthetic. How is its personal mitigation compared to Dark Knight and the other tanks? Honestly, if GNB has more mitigation than DRK, that will be the final key I need to officially convert and be a GNB main.

GNB is about as shady as DRK atm. Same magic mitigation aoe buff that's relatively bad overall. It has it's own Shadow Wall of 10% for 30 seconds. One of it's main combos provides a minor shield/cure that's shareable to another party member. I wouldn't call it the mitigation champ like I know how you feel about DRK but it's definitely a busy/fun job to play. Also there's so far no glamour weps from Ramuh, Ifrit, Thordan, etc weps from level 50-60

Also, unpopular opinion... Bow Shock and Sonic Break should share a CD.

I'm obviously not max level yet but from what I've experienced leveling GNB and from what I've heard from others who already have it above level 70, GNB mitigation is somewhat lacking. Brutal Shell's shield is barely noticeable and the heal is pretty weak, their regen is also not very good. Their tankbuster cooldown is just a flat out worse Raw Intuition lasting around two more seconds but is 5% weaker (15% vs 20%). Their party-wide mitigation is magic only so useless against anything that isn't magic damage and since parry was nerfed (and was never good to begin with), camouflage is basically just a 10% damage reduction cooldown... Superbolide is almost as bad as Living Dead and can screw you out of benediction/essential dignity, only things it has in line with other tanks is Rampart and their 30% defensive cooldown.

They're a blast to play, really entertaining especially at level 70 when they do start feeling quite speedy, but they seem to be considered the tanks with the worst personal mitigation at the moment.

It's fine. They're not squishy, but there are some cooldowns that do seem oddly worse than their contemporaries' for no real reason. Play what you want, I'm sticking with it for the foreseeable future because I got tired of WAR and PLD (and hated SB DRK).

It's decent but I consider camouflage need some flat mitigation buffs like 20% mitigation + parry at minimun.

agree , the camouflage skill needs a buff 90s of 50% parry -10% Dmg ? 90s recast meh

not much of a issue as stated Camouflage is odd
but combination of rampart,Nebula and how frequent heart of stone is
Aurora is nice too and keen flurry shield is ok as well

From the little I played its. Basically boiled down to a few points of contention for me personally.

1.) Camouflage, yes this desperately needs a buff, especially with Parry nerfing making an already iffy skill worse.
2.) Brutal Shell, yup why is this SO weak? 100% of damage dealt as the HP+shield otherwise what's even the point?
3.) Bow Shock should be 20s
4.) Potencies of the Gnashing Fang combo needs be upped by about 10 to 20 per.
5.) This one is just a small gripe, but the animation lock and range of Rough Divide makes it feel really odd.

Other than that though GNB feels great to play, its busy without being tedious and there's a lot of promise in it!

Seriously I love it's not on the same cooldown. Stack on stack on stack yo.

As far as personal mitigation, it's just mediocre. Not overpowered, not under powered, so far I have no issues.

I ran with a healer in the first new duty and pulled 2 mobs, we survived and I said "see you dont need to DPS now, look at all the healing you have to do"

We laughed.

I personally think the mitigation is really nice. People complain about camouflage but why? It's not comparable to other CD's on other tanks because they don't have a CD to compare it to, camouflage is basically just extra and who complains at extra mitigation for free?

Nebula is pretty much same as all the rest, good stuff. Rampart is rampart, you know it. Heart of stone is great for the short cooldown, comparable to raw intuition, sheltron and blackest night. Camouflage is something other tanks don't seem to get so it's quite nice to use with Aurora while you're pulling. Heart of light sucks but eh, it has to have some weaknesses. Superbolide is pretty decent, if you use it in emergencies your life is already low enough that it doesn't matter going down to 1 and you have tons of time to be healed up, pity the CD is so long.

All in all, the cooldowns are nice, they get the job done. I'd say WAR and PLD might have it better but that's them being too strong imo, not gunbreaker being weak.

I think it's okay it's not as strong as WAR or PLD and it doesn't have something like TBN but Superbolide is really strong, Nebula is the same as Shadow Wall/Sentinel so no complaints there, Camouflage is okay nothing to write home about and Heart of Stone is a great on demand active mitigation CD.

My only complaint is when you hit Bardam's and Doma is you start to feel the lack of CDs as Heart of Stone isn't till 68 other than that i'm having a blast leveling.

Camouflage can be compared to WAR's Thrill of Battle, which is 20% additional HP and a heal for the same amount. Camouflage isn't that far behind, but it is still behind when you consider the EHP gained from Thrill.

While true, it is only comparable to Sheltron (since block is 15% too, down from 20), but PLD has a passive, permanent block chance in addition to their parry chance thanks to their shield. Raw Intuition provides 20% damage reduction as opposed to 15% and Blackest Night is a massive 25% based on the DRK's HP. While at a glance a 5% difference might not seem like a big thing, it is 5% damage mitigated from a tankbuster that can potentially hit for tens of thousands of damage.

I also must disagree with this. WAR and PLD have amazing toolkits that get the job done, it's Gunbreaker (and to a lesser degree DRK) that are too weak defensively speaking IMO. That's not to say GNB is a wet piece of paper, but it definitely needs a minor buff to bring it in line with other tanks.

At least a camouflage buff up to 15% damage reduction (20% would be ideal but may be too strong IMO) and bring Heart of Stone up to 20% reduction to keep it in line with Raw Intuition, even if the duration is reduced to match it as well.

Camouflage is pretty underrated, at least in dungeons. Even with the parry nerf to 15%, a 50% chance of parrying should average about 7.5% physical mitigation. So GNB has 17.5% physical mitigation and 10% magical mitigation for 20s on a 90s cooldown, compared to Thrill being ~16-17% of both for 10s (90s cooldown) and DM being just 20% magical mitigation for 10s (60s cooldown). It's not the best skill for tankbuster mitigation, but the other cooldowns cover that anyway.

Those comparing Camoflauge to the likes of thrill. I compare it to Foresight, because it’s similar but not total crap because there’s some actual passive mitigation that works for magic too. The new Thrill is just a better Conva.

Man...foresight...that's a name I haven't heard in a looooong time. Good ole beta/2.0 days.

So what i think should be done is give us defensive cartridge spender doesnt need to be anything crazy, even let us double down since they want us to be the parry tank. Blade Barricade: Increases parry rate by (15%-25%) for 10 seconds and grants a 5% Max HP shield.

Haven't given it a good solid run, but even with Camo I'd just started to default to treat the regen as quasi-mitigation.

Having gun on 80 I can says it’s not that bad but not that pretty either you rather don’t want to main tank as gun just because you can shar ur heal shield and deff cd. And don’t forget block get better with better shields. And for dungeon it works you have enough cds and camo isn’t so bad with 8 mobs hitting you on big pulls. But yeah always offtank
