So, what will you guys do during the launch, take advantage of the market or do the story quest first?
I'll be leveling DNC first most likely so I probably won't be making any gil outside of HoH (assuming it doesn't have issues like PoTD did at SB launch). Unless I get the HoH hair in the process that's an easy like 1.5m lol. I really want to get my gatherers up over the next couple days though because that's usually a pretty good way to make gil at the start of an expansion. That and selling crafted gear/consumables for the world first race when that starts.
First thing is fixing my hotbars
As soon as I reach the first town or whatever in The First, I'm putting the MSQ on halt. Then, I'm gonna do my roulettes every day and my challenge log every week until I hit level 80. Then, I will continue with the MSQ.
Hardly anything worth while to spend gil on atm so .. don't see any reason why i need more.
Definitely MSQ first. I'm fine for gil, might as well enjoy that "new expansion" experience.
Of course, if we get another Raubahn Savage or instance servers crash or something like that, I'll be cracking out the miners pick and looking into good desynths.
I got some limited items that'll be even more limited in 5.X, so I'm just playing the waiting game.
If you're doing all MSQ and sidequests as you go, you will be able to take one character though the story comfortably. Though I'd suggest being maybe two levels ahead of the current quest level. Once you have that lead, you won't lose it. Even more if you're doing daily roulettes as you go.
If nothing else, move on when you're Lv67-68 or something so you can at least get some value out of quest leveling.
I feel like I need to make it perfectly clear that I'm perfectly aware that I'm going to take longer than everybody else, and that I won't be getting exp where I would otherwise get exp. I'm okay with that. I never wanted it to come across as logical or understandable - it's just how I play the game.
People who elect to take advantage of the markets before main story and leveling war/magic but instead leveling craft/gather and sell stand to make tons of money with a new xpac and for many of the updates to it as time goes by. First few weeks is crazy money. I'll personally be leveling my whm and doing main story. I'm not really into selling much anymore.
How about you guys let thisbperson play the game the way they want?
When I went through storm blood, if my main out paced the msq (I do roulettes while doing the quests), I did roulettes on other jobs then continue the msq on those and kept cycling until I was done. Got nin, war, and rdm to 70 by the time I was done with the msq. I wanted those jobs leveled anyway, so there we go. I don't rush the msq. You can run out of content quickly if you do, then people complain there is no content when they blow through it.
I already backed off. But if "taking your time with the story" is the only concern then you don't need to be at max level before you start doing that, and maybe he just hadn't thought that through, and was giving himself unnecessary work befor he could enjoy it.
I am going to sell glamour prisms. :P
I appreciate the concern for my time as well as the defense of my play-style. However, I'm going to have to ask a favor and have us all stop talking about me. I wouldn't want the thread to get derailed over something like this.
At the end of the day, I can't possibly be hurting anybody other than myself with my methods. (Even though I actually prefer this method of progression. I do lots of roulettes every day anyway, so why not?)
Basically, sell materia, level a crafter during que times that I'm not spending leveling MCH/AST/PLD through MSQ and side quests, and sell FATE reward items. Then begin crafting Housing items and various crafting materials.
Start gathering early and gouge as much as I can until the market settles sounds like a good idea to me. EDIT: As I progress through the MSQ though. Need to unlock those areas to gather in! Then after I finish the MSQ and max out my gatherers again i'll work on my crafters.
Dancer and gunbreaker Glamor
Another expansion, another era in which the economy gets screwed up by bot farmers.
I can hardly wait. /s
First thing, I'll be fixing my hotbars, and getting a handle on the changes. I won't be rushing with this either. I want to be comfortable with everything before I get involved in the MSQ.
As for money making, not a priority for me. I have plenty of gil and little I want to spend it on currently.
My focus will be the MSQ and leveling WHM to 80. Once that's done I'll start leveling DoL/DoH classes. Assuming I get to max on those quick enough, I'll see what I can craft to possibly sell, but if not I won't be too distraught. If anything I'll probably spend more gil than I make early on by buying any HQ tools I can't (or can't be bothered to) make myself. Outside of that, I have hundreds of millions of gil and there's nothing I care about buying on the MB that would put a noticeable dent in it, so I don't anticipate needing to make more in a hurry.
Msq after that level crafters and gathers to 80. Got healthy stock of combat materia I am waiting to dump once raiding gets going.
In Storm I did DOW/DOM first this time and left my DOL far behind, this time I'm doing my DOL first, I had hoped to enter Shadow with some Gil behind me sadly I'm not very great with the whole AH or making Gil (I mean I only did my first Aetherial Reduction in this exp) Sadly still leveling my DOH, so already have one arm tied behind my back.
use MSQ and some others to plod my way to 80 on my Pally, hopefully hit it within a week or so , gear for raids. work on getting other jobs to 80.
- immediately look a way to change into a dancer
- fixing hotbar and buttons
- fixing hotbar and buttons for the other class
- continue MSQ
- probably got DC because congested server
in that order
Making gil? Nice joke!
I expect the same thing will happen that happened when I was going through AAR, HW and SB. I will get distracted levelling my crafters and gatherers before getting halfway through the MSQ and by the time I realise my combat classes have fallen behind and I need to progress the story because I'm getting a lot recipes that require mats from areas I haven't unlocked yet, everyone else will be done with 5.0
I’m going to enjoy the new story and have a relaxing time. Remember that the Gil in this game is worthless compared to real life. Everything will soon be gone. Don’t get caught up being world first while your real life wastes away. Everything gets nerffed to the ground anyways. If you can let go of being first and become last you’ll enjoy life a lot more.
Almost none of my friends are playing anymore, so there's no rush this expansion to get to cap and do stuff with them, so I'll be taking my time this time around. Do some msq, do some trust dungeons on an alt job, do some gathering.
Do the usual leveling up by dungeon running and MSQ. I'll normally use my main to go into dungeons and fights, and then use the MSQ turn ins to level up my alt classes.
Then the slow relaxing pace of leveling up the alts will come.
Not gonna rush into the new classes just yet since they're 20 levels down and these classes are not my main priorities.
I have little interest in playing the Market. I put stuff on there to get rid of it. If I check the price and it's at or below vendor price, I chuck it to the vendor.
So I'll be doing the MSQ and enjoying the new dungeons and areas.
Yes... Yes.
I'm at the point where the only further use for gil is trying to hit the gil cap; even if that would be easier in the first week, still would rather see the story.
... I am going to at least keep my DoL levels up so my retainers can constantly be getting XP though. And I do have around 100 thavnarian onions to try to sell...
Unlock dancer play around with it a bit and then go make my Hrothgar! Probably not going to reach the Shadowbringer's MSQ until the rush dies down. That will help me avoid any...messes like Stormblood's :P
Getting gunbreaker unlocked, doing roulettes with it, then going to MSQ till first area, get stacks of 40 of gathering, give my FC 20 of each sell the other 20, rinse and repeat every single day, GNB will be leveled, my DPS class will be leveled my gathering will be leveled and I will make mad money. The literal meaning of time efficient.
