Female viera will likely go extinct 2 weeks after launch, when everyone feels too bad about leaving their catgirls and sees that female vieras are way too tall for them.
Fem viera will likely not be more popular than fem lalafell

after the hype died off some people will go back to aura or catgirl and some wont. same when aura came out, everyone was an aura. and then it balanced itself out. their not the small kawaii waifu character. will be fine after a while.

For the female roes that hardly get much notice. Now it's even harder to get noticed as the bunnies joins Eorzea.

What is this "Female Roe"?

Is it a type of food?

Sad but true for those who like large variety of option. Though we also have to add in the Unlock hairstyles as well to be among the extra after the 6 default ones.

Don't forget the current 6 are the default racial hairstyles which each race is known to have their own but beyond that are the new additional hairstyles added through patches/expansion and the unlock hairstyles.

Pretty much. People will make their dream waifus, get bored within a week or less, and swap right back.

That's why I went Elezen a month ago. So I could get used to the height difference and possible awkward run animation lol.

I refuse to go viera because my nia glamour will finally be complete with the new dancer class

TBH, I only ever use one hairstyle on my Au Ra and I already like more hairstyles that are currently present on Viera, so I should be okay :P

You are brave for posting that....many people will get angry...:P

Highly doubt Viera will replace anything, but the less popular races. Mostly no headgear, tall - which means also big, no unique hairstyles (rather unique purchasable hairstyles, and all the others). People will switch back once they get bored.

If you check out the Viera reveal video you can get a look at the run/sprint animation

Viera are too big. Cat girls will continue to dominate well into the future.

Honestly, after playing this game for so long, I think it's safe to say, you will never rid this game of catgirls. No matter what.

I expect the less popular races to take more of a hit, particularly Elezen given there's a lot more overlap with their posh mannerism and height category.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I play a cat specifically because it's a cat. I'm very particular about my kemonomimi.

This is what I feel is more likely to happen.

Viera is basically everything I've wanted from a race in FFXIV. But I've grown so attached to my roe, her goofy emotes and especially her name, that I'm having second thoughts about fantasia'ing. :c Will have to think very carefully...

I've been having the same thoughts, but mostly because I don't really have the money to blow this month on a fantasia. I could, but I already spent way too much (paid off my SHB digital collectors edition pre-order, bought a new gaming headset, spent a little more on a time card). I'm pretty much completely broke, at least for spending on game stuff like this. If I wasn't being ripped off on the bills, it would be a completely different story.

I have also been having second thoughts because, we haven't really seen what gear ShB has. What if there is a bunch of really cool headgear? If you are viera you definitely cannot wear any of it, well things that aren't crowns or goggles or something.

I'm an impulse buyer though, so I'll probably do it anyway, who am I kidding.

I think once the launch hype wears off, viera will likely be less popular than miqote and au ra, though I'm not sure how they'll compare to midlanders. Maybe a bit more, maybe a bit less. It's not like miqote and au ra are the only two groups who'll be switching to viera, of course.

Catgirls will still be as popular in general I'd assume...

But with the addition of two new races, can we get lala's the F they (don't) deserve for becoming even more marginalized?

Well cats are supposed to have nine lives. I guess each year in the spotlight burned off a life. Sucks for them.

I for one welcome our new bunny overlords.

Not buying it. The two existing tall female races are probably going to take a bigger hit than the catgirls.

Some of us will still have neko! Forever love for my Luna. Other alts I will make a bunny.

I'll miss being a "rare" Elezen when I switch as I've grown quite fond of my character despite small head syndrome, though who knows...I may just switch back if I somehow don't end up liking being a Viera anymore.

Well, as much as I love my dorky hats, that viera only hairstyle (in my signature) is too good to pass. I can live without headgear if it means my character can finally wear whatever non-head glamour I want without having issues with broad shoulders and T H I C Cness. I have a free fantasia gathering dust from beta days, so blowing money on that won't be a problem (although name change will cost). I'm mostly worried that the viera animations will be too stiff for my liking. /happy and /joy seem very unenthusiastic compared to what I'm used to on femroe. And the name. I pretty much have started to identify myself with my roe's name on the internet and my online friends know me as various nicknames made up from my roe's name. Was thinking of giving my viera a XII-styled short name that's a mesh of consonants... but that'll mean the end of silly nicknames. :< And having a non-viera name on my viera is not an option.

I don't think cats will suffer a big loss outside the initial first month viera hype, just because they fit more the "cute eyecandy" look, also Viera suffering from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resting_bitch_face might be a factor that will turn people back to their cats.

Au Ra however... I do expect them to drop to third place at least in NA. The most popular Au Ra face already looks like a soulless expressionless doll and Viera is a massive upgrade over that.

Regardless of how many people switch, it will be nice to see some variety for once. Every time I load into a duty I'm the tallest person and everyone else is either a female Au Ra or Miqo'te. Kind of makes looking at other people's characters boring when they all have the exact same Soft Baby Face. If I wanted to play a female character I think I'd pick Viera, but I like where I'm at.

I don't think so, at least I don't think Viera will take too many auri after all the initial hype settles. Which face are you referring to the one with the wider horns? I always thought that one looked kind of like a fish! The other two (aside from the one I'm using and that one) look kind of derpy, in my opinion. My feeling is, for female races, miqo'te will be first most played, followed by Auri, with Midlander/Viera competing.

Also, from the lack of hairstyles, and from what I have seen since I actively check the "Show your Viera thread" people's Vieras, including my own, look VERY similar to eachother. Strikingly similar, lack of hairstyles/headgear doesn't help at all.
