No thanks, I don't want to see 1000 catgirls with the Ouch face. Aka eyes closed mouth open. Just no.
some characters /grins are terrifying in this game
i don't want that stuck on people
I want it. I want my Au Ra smiling instead of stuck in grumpy straight-face the whole time.
I don't need to see other player-characters' faces, so that's not going to affect me, but I want to be able to change it for mine.
I'm with Iscah, it would be nice if facial expressions were a bit more permanent; maybe have some be permanent and some not.
Or I mean, say no to a neat, niche little feature because some people would have silly fun with it and how dare people find ways to have silly fun.
I fell in love with the Lalafell's /sneer since the first Krile encounters dissing Alphinaud.
This smugface is just too great and I would keep it longer than those 5 seconds.
I would like to have this for the expressions that make sense. EX "Smirk", "sneer" and not the previous for mentioned expression "ouch".
I'd want this. I WANT the creepy grin on my face when slaughtering hundreds of animals just because some NPC said I needed to. I was highly disappointed when I found out I had to make macros to add expressions when I used different skills instead of just doing the face and keeping it till I zoned or used another expression.
Perhaps it could be coded with a simple number in the text command?
/emote is still the default five seconds
/emote X holds the expression for X seconds
/emote 0 is permanent until overwritten
?
I'd rather see this as an emote feature only. Really don't care to see 99% of the population with /sneer or /grin like Stepford house wives. Other mmo's have sliders to set the expression yourself, which would be a lot more versatile.
I agree with Cyrstal_Raven "No thanks, I don't want to see 1000 catgirls with the Ouch face. Aka eyes closed mouth open. Just no."
How about "Permanent expressions" in your FC & Personal House .. for RP?
I don't get the fear that 99% of the population will pull stupid faces. Roe's can walk around in leapordskin speedos, players can glamour all their gear off and you can wear bunny outfits, chocobo and pig suits, but the actual percentage of the population doing this long term is maybe 1%.
For most of us silly things are a novelty that we play around with for 10 minutes then switch to something else. Being a catgirl with an "ouch" face would probably be looked down on.
Also to be fair, MMORPG's are role play for a lot of players, if your character is smug, cheerful, grim or so on by nature, I can't see the harm in that being part of your image. I notice a lot of the comments are people dictating what they want or don't want others to look like, rather than personal preference.
I don't even have my camera zoomed in enough to see other characters' expressions most of the time.
Precisely this! That's the same debacle of people not wanting the game to have more shared glamours between male and female characters (like Thavnair dress useable for men or the marriage tux for girls). It really puzzles me how people are bothered by others having the option to portray themselves more freely.
Sure, I support it. Although if this feature is added, I think it would be limited to only a few facial expressions.
Sure, don't see why not.
Personally, I think it's weird as all get out to see characters running around with a frozen expression on their face, which is why the "neutral expression" one works well.
Then again, it's hard to argue about something being weird or unnatural when people park their characters in odd locations like facing a wall in the back of the map for perpetuity.
I realised the downfall of... probably the whole thing really, but certainly the "set for X seconds" apptoach is that emotes would only get sent to other characters within view at the point you perform it - anyone arriving at the zone later would miss the instruction.
Still, personally I'd be happy with it even if it was client-side only.
Some of the expression emotes are pretty neutral anyway. There are several different smile emotes and some are fine as a "resting face" that looks friendly rather than grumpy.
