They did a little over 20 years ago, based off FFV I believe. It wasn't that great.

Legend of the Crystals it was called looking it up. Another anime was also Unlimited, of which I don't remember too much of either.

Final Fantasy hasn't had too much success outside of games.

I have Unlimited on DVD. It's not bad. Nothing mind-blowing, but there's worse ways to kill a few hours.

I also like how they're so hyped for opening a gold coffer. Bonuses and Magicite come from Silver, and in my PotD/HoH experience those are the only things ppl will ever get hype about.

It will just strengthen the stereotype of this game being for weabooos.

Meh.

It's nicely animated. Though it clings to the tropes that I loathe about a lot of anime - namely having a couple of token male characters standing around in the background with the bulk of the focus on generic looking 'waifu bait'.

Which raises some concerns about design choices for the game in general despite a significant chunk of the community playing male characters.

Agreed. Frankly, the flood of female characters grows dull quite rapidly.

I'm hoping if they succeed in capturing those "WoW refugees" they're eyeing up that it moves the demographics in the same direction as WoW's in terms of character demographics.

If they were to make a FFXIV anime, expect a bit of slice of life in there with friendships breaking ingame and it showing them handling it irl, and irl moods effecting how they're acting ingame. I wish that was a joke, but we know that's how it'll be going.

No no, it'll be an isekai like literally every other fantasy-based anime is these days. Heck the manga is already just that if I recall rightly. Truck-kun must claim more victims.

That's not where the "issue" was. During the /gpose beach scene of the original video the miqo had BOTH human and cat ears. An image is posted above actually.

They know that their target audience mostly plays female races. While FFXIV might have more players playing the Male races than other Asian online games they still aren't the majority, you can tell this by comparing female to male outfits on the mogstation.

Its definitely a problem and I wish more variety was given to the male races, but appealing to the majority will always win out over the minority. I'm not saying that it's a good idea personally but that's just how it is.

There was also three other FF anime released as well since then: two tie ins to FFVII (Last Order and On the Way to a Smile ~ Case of Denzel) and a FFXV prequel (Brotherhood). And of course there is The Spirits Within, FFVII's sort-of sequel Advent Children, and the FFXV film Kingsglaive if you regard them all as 'animation'. But yeah, animated/film adapations of the FF series have never been that good, probably due to the fact that a big part of the FF series is, well, they're interactive, you're experiencing that story first hand as games rather than simply passively watching the story unfold (it also doesn't help a lot of the animated FF features are rather self indulgent on the part of the producers and tend to lose a lot of the deep immersion of the games' narratives).

Hence on one hand as much as I would like to see a FFXIV tie-in anime (maybe adapt 1.0's story to show those who started their FFXIV journey with ARR what life was like at the end of the Sixth Astral Era and what really went down at Carteneau beyond what ARR has shown), on the other hand I would rather SE not. Because it would inevitabely turn out like all the above previous anime adapations: mediocre at best and possibly even turning potential new players away.
