I'll be the first in line to get an HD texture pack, but damn, you picked something real obscure to complain about.

I'm pretty sure the overwhelming majority of the playerbase wasn't even aware this existed.

I've always wondered if the trick people did to FFVII and FFIX to make textures HD could be used on some of FFXIV's armors and stuff. I mention that since I heard, could just be rumor as I don't recall the source, that FFXIV doesn't release a texture pack because we already have the source (they didn't downscale armor and such, that's the quality they have on file).

For FFVII / FFIX some people took AI neural networks and gave it the original game images to nom nom nom on and that produced some higher resolution images (different than just a simple upscaling). Not sure the network could fix that OP image but from the examples I've seen in FFVII and FFIX I believe it could have some good effects to our armor (I feel the cutscenes and most stuff you see will mean armor has a much higher priority lol). Obviously they could just go through remake stuff entirely if they don't have a higher res source but if it was truly thousands of items.. thought it might make it feasible/reasonable to use the network if they wouldn't do it otherwise.

Also that OP image reminds me of some trees in Dark Souls lol, but they were always in the back (like that example image) so you weren't supposed to really zoom in on them haha.

So just a real quick thing...Are all the bald Roegadyn dudes all the same guy just posting on various characters? Cause I swear that Im seeing this weird pattern of Roe Baldys posting threads like this that are issues about obscure things.

Anyone else see this or is it just me?

We are halfway into 2019, 8Gb Vram cards are pretty mainstream.

And for those doomsayers about console not powerfull enough. PS4 has 8Gb of GDDR5 (shared system ram & vram, I believe 5Gb was reserved for Vram alone).
During last weeks E3 Microsoft announced that project Scarlet (the new Xbox to be released in 2020) "will support up to 4K and 120FPS". The reason I say this is because Sony hasn't announced such claims yet, however both PS5 & Project Scarlet will roughly have the same performance.

Anyway with the claims Microsoft provided for next gen consoles, they are more then powerful enough to run 4K textures on this game at higher framerates.

For a community that praises the small things about FFXIV I'm surprised people see ps1 textures and all of a sudden the small things that they like about FFXIV don't matter anymore. I'm sure they have more important things to work on like "literally anything else" to be worried about something so miniscule as one out of the way texture.

8GB VRAM is NOT mainstream.
I work as technician, selling parts and upgrading computers, and not everyone has a 500$+ CAD budget to put into a graphic card.
Almost 75% of the GPU and/or computers we sell for gamers either has something similar to a GTX1050/1060 which have 2, 3, 4 or 6GB depending on the model you choose.
Maybe YOUR reality is that everyone has 1200-2500$ to put into a gaming PC, while according to Steam stats, a GTX1070/RTX2070 (8GB) is mostly under 10% of the user base.

That being said, an optional high-res pack? Sure, i'd even pay to have it!
BUT we should not force people who have average computers (or use their laptop on the road to do dailies and casual content) suddenly be unable to play their favorite game.

Some people really need the expansion to drop sooner.

8GB VRAM is still on the enthusiast end.

And PS4 reserves 3.5GB of its RAM for system alone, although 1GB of that can flexibly be used by games when necessary. That leaves up to 5.5GB total for games.

Finally, while Scarlett "will support 4k and 120fps", it is only technically correct, "support" being the keyword. It's just the HDMI 2.1 standard, do not expect games to actually run at that. Sony is probably yawning at that statement, perhaps even chuckling.

Going against the grain here and am going to say, yeah, that bit in OP's screenshot does look rather egregious and unprofessional. This is coming from someone who didn't notice or care about Hien's clothes.

While on the subject of things that look bad: I don't know if it's still there, but a while back I found a part of the cliff in Coerthas Western that had no collision detection; you could walk right through it and be "inside" the cliff. It was somewhere along the lower southwest area not super far from Falcon's Nest.

PS2 limitations, oh wait wrong game.

Grass is right in your face though, also they did improve the grass in beta of ARR (they were in the notes like 3 different times) so someone must have agreed. Also no regrets lol, the pixels were more obvious than the ones on our gear- it was really really obvious (and everywhere, because it's grass).
