Clickers. I don't know how they can do it.
Who are clickers?
They click skills with mouse? :P
I type in chat and on the forums with my ps4 controller :c
What kind of massive keyboard do you have for all your skills, menus, etc.? Can I get it on sale?
I have a weird hybrid of keyboard presses on my most frequently used skills, and clicking on my least used/high cooldown abilities. And I play Bard, considered to be one of the most piano-type classes. Does that count?
(Every time I stream random content, my raid team wonders how the hell I even manage that hybrid style. Come to think of it, reviewing my own footage... It does look a little bonkers.)
I separate my skills. Those I use frequently on my keyboard, ones that I use sometimes or in special situations (like as a BRD, my songs, foes, troubadour, etc) are on click.
I don't think I could handle using only my keyboard for everything lol, but props to those who can :D
One of the people I play with actually doesn't have hotkeys set up for their skills because they can't get behind it, and actually clicks every skill. Seriously don't know how they do it.
I used to be a clicker in SWTOR for the longest time but started adopting hotkeys as time went on and managed to almost fully transition to keyboard in FF14. The only thing I still click is the party window when healing/buffing specific people, but otherwise I only use mouse for camera work and movement now.
Today, I have no idea how Past Me was managing to pull off Operative Healer's Starcraft-like gameplay with a mouse XD
The people who can do it at the highest level, especially with how oGCD-heavy FF14 is, definitely deserve respect. And astonishment. And concern n_~
You mean those things from the last of us?
It blows my mind anyone can do this in any sort of rotation. I save my clicking for Limit break and targeting party members in the party list for Dragon sight, and clicking for Salted Earth on DRK. When I see DPS players clicking their skills idk if I'm amazed or terrified...
I'm also sort of a click - hotkey hybrid. Usually the far right side of my hotbars I'll click, things like limit break, utility, some aoe. The bulk is hotkey though.
To give ff14 credit, it taught me to hotkey. In WoW, no joke, I played on a laptop using the touchpad (no mouse at all) and clicked nearly everything and I was generally one of the top dps in my group. It worked fine, I could get away with it. In ff14 that just doesn't work and I naturally found myself having to learn to hotkey, strafe and learn to move efficiently while dps'ing. You can say ff14 is a casual game, but for me WoW combat was miles easier.
I could never get behind those who only click, it still almost annoys me when I see some players 1-2-3 combo being like 1-3-7 on the keyboard, like they just left it how they got em. Though I use Shift/Alt + 1-5, R, T, F, Z, X, C, V for all my needs.
Tho honestly it does help my 2 side buttons are programmed to count as Shift/Alt as well so no awkward hand positions.
I never learned to hit keys 7 thru - on my keyboard consistantly, so anything on that end of the hotbar is often clicked. I try to put my rotation on keys 1-5 as much as I possibly can for this reason.
I have remapped hotbar 3 to be reachable with the ALT key, and I'm slowly retraining myself to use the numbers on the thumbpad of my mouse instead of clicking.
So I'm sort of a clicker, but slowly reforming.
I'm a combination of clicker and keyboard usage, depending on class, situation and what I'm trying to achieve
you can do everything you'll ever need with normal keys and Shift. special mouses or keyboards are purely QoL or preferences. 1-7 is easily reachable, as well as E-Y. Menus have even more options if you take the time to map all that out.
I don't use ALT or CTRL out of preference so I base all of my combat actions on frequency of use = close to my hand. So far, there isnt any class I've played that cant fit 1-7, E-Y(or U depending on hand size) with just 1 Shift modifier for each.
that has to be a significant DPS loss. :(
I have mad respect for people who do all their skills with a keyboard and use shift/control combos. Personally, I mix keyboard and clicking because it's a lot easier for me. For example: There is no way I can hit ctrl+5 with one hand without stretching it in the most inconvenient of ways (small hands, big keyboard issue) so I would have to use two hands to make it work and leave my mouse alone and I'm way too used to using my mouse to adjust the camera angle.. I might completely screw up fights. Just.. no thanks.
I did watch a streamer once. She was doing a raid while mostly clicking and I wasn't entirely sure how she managed to be part of the raid because she was SO slow. Literal "Hovering over the hot bar looking for the skill to click on" type of slow. It was unbearable to watch. It certainly doesn't work for everyone.
My friends always cringe when they see my gameplay lol. I click 99% of my abilities because I never learned nor care to learn hotkeys. I am only comfortable pressing keys 1, 2, and sometimes 3 so those are usually my bread and butter dps skills.
The only previous MMO I have played was Aion and I only clicked in that one as well.
Here's an old clip from when I was learning how to do Byakko Ex when he was the newest Trial. My healing is not optimal nor is my dps. I have learned a lot since I took this video lol.

Dunno
1-4 q a e f g v w x with ctrl, alt and shift is enough for everything
9 skills on mouse macro keys and 8 skills on keyboard (1-4, f1-f4), so that's 17 skills total assigned to keys. Anything beyond that is for mouse clicks.
I never learned how to properly type (with the fingers positioned) on a keyboard when I was younger(and even now) so I had to teach myself to type.
I generally use 1 to = on the keyboard but for everything else I click.
I don't know about any of that, I'm just a humble SMN main using a controller on PS4.
I map multiple hotbars to my 12 button mouse.
No key = Hotbar 1
Holding Ctrl On Keyboard = Hotbar 2
Holding Shift = Hotbar 3
I only ever need to click for stuff on my "rarely used" hotbars, like limit break.
I don’t know how people play without one of those mice with 12+ buttons on the side. I think my hands are just super small or something because no way can I reach something like 1-5 on the keyboard while also having my hand in any sort of position to be able to hit letter keys, and then at that point how would I even move my character? My hand would be out in narnia somewhere and it would take me forever to reposition it for movement and then I would definitely lose dps uptime. Like are people only using their mouse to move and not wasd or something similar to it? I’m so used to using wasd and using right mouse button to help with strafing.
So yeah, my hat off to literally most people. Don’t know how you guys do it, but you’re better than me. Haha.
I think I committed to this method because I use my mouse to adjust the camera at all times, like I'm holding right-click literally 100% of a fight for some reason. Im not sure which control method I use, but I use the one where if you press S, you turn around and run that direction, not that walking-backwards-crap.
and yes, I think your hands are small, lol. When I'm doing my rotation while moving, im typically only holding 1 of the WASD keys, maybe with my ring or pinky finger. But since that is my default place for my hand, I can reach my entire hotbar without much issue. (the problem is trying to move AND use my shift-modifier skills and well there is no clear answer for that. but I dont really run into that very often).
I click everything, tbh. And I personally don't think I'm that slow with using my skills. I've used skills by accident by hitting keys on my keyboard, and it completely throws me off every single time. I don't think I'd ever be able to handle using hotkeys.
I’m a simple person.
GCD, I use keys
oGCD. I click
I highly recommend this gaming mouse: http://www.utechsmart.com/product/sh...7/US-D16400-GM
3 years going strong, great price, and does the same thing any Razer mouse does. Probably compatible with ps4 as well.
This is exactly what I do.
The group of friends I play with also think I'm weird with how I move around...I changed the Q/E strafe keys to A/D and removed the default A/D completely...and I can only move my char if I have RMB held in. They all think I'm weird but I don't see how they can play with the default movement system. It's so weird and clunky to me.
I used to be a clicker. Don't have respect for them, it's a worse way to play, you cannot have your eyes peeled for aoes and healing party members when your eyes are glued on looking at your abilities to click them.
I became so much better at the game when I stopped being a clicker, it took a bit to adjust at first, but I'll never go back.
The only things I click nowadays is my mounts and my classes I have assigned to my side hotbars.
I use a custom macro keyboard with a 16 button mouse. Never had issues. Hmm..
I have no problems seeing any aoes when I click, unlike a lot of other people I've partied with... I have no problems healing either (except when too focused on dpsing, which does not happen very often).
Muscle memory does not work for me, so I'd just have to look at keyboard to see the buttons, which would be imensely worse than just looking at the screen and clicking.
I tried a few times to learn to play by keyboard, but it just did not click. I use my mouse for clicking and I use it for moving. I only use keyboard for talking.
Now now, this is an admiration thread, not a shaming thread. Those that can click and do fine in content I salute you, don't let people try to influence you. If you do decide to change things though gaming mouse is such a great solution, as I linked on my last post, there's one for $36. Either way it's all a matter of determination however it is we play.
I use a mix. My basic rotation/s is handled via keyboard, usually 1-6 and everything else is mouse clicks.
everything on my first hotbar, I use a key for. Everything else, I click. It's not as hard as you'd think, but I've been doing it this way for a loooong time, so I guess I'm just used to it by now!
I'm a hotkey person
1-12 (thumbgrid, 19 button mouse - Naga Trinity) - abilities
Ctrl - Hotbar 2
Alt - Hotbar 3
Ctrl + Alt - Hotbar 4
Shift - Pet hotbar
I could use Ctrl + Shift and Ctrl + Alt to set up hotbars 5 and 6, may do this when Shadowbringers rolls around, alongside rebinding Shift to a hotbar, and also adding Ctrl + Alt + Shift... 8 hotbars on keybind! 96 keybinds without needing to click. Just think of the POWER that'd achieve.
I see your Logitech and raise you...
