Make emotes more customizable, please? No more race/gender lock?

Every race has it's own set of how various emotes work, from /sit and /kneel to /blush and /dance.

For some that might be all fine or they don't even care at all about emotes, but honestly... imagine a character like everyone's favorite scary Dotharl, Sadu... being all cutesy-moe, like the female Au Ra emotes force us to be if we use them as female Au Ra. Eeeeehhhh.... I think Sadu wouldn't react nicely to that idea :p

On the other hand, why can't a big Roe guy not use "cutesy" emotes of the type currently restricted to female Au Ra, if it fits the personality?

I think the current system is very limiting (while the vastness of emotes in the game absolutely amazing), and therefore would like to petition to make emotes more customizable.

Remove the "race/gender lock" for them, and let us pick at least one "set" of emotes, so that my female Au Ra can have lets say the emotes currently "attached" to female Elezen, since she is a more elegant lady. Or my Miquote girl the emotes currently attached to male Au Ra, because she is a bit a rough lady ;).

Of course even more awesome (but I'm aware that might be a nightmare to program) would be that we can pick one type for every single emote: /blush like currently female Elezen, but /sit like currently female Highlanders, and /psyche like currently male Au Ra :D

Let us be who we really are, and express ourselves accordingly :)

the devs have a certain aesthetic they would like for each race to have. that's why things are the way they are.

Removing genderlock, sure, racelock? no. Keep those please.

I like having both locks. It keeps things unique.

I kind of want to do the female version of the Moogle Dance.

Feel like many people on the OF should try out Second Life.

I mean, according to these Forums nothing should be unique to characters ... be it race animations or glam.

The devs clearly have an idea for how they want races to feel and look. If you want your character to be a different way you have a list of races to pick from.

I think we should have more racial exclusives. I'm tired of seeing everyone whine wanting to dilute the uniqueness of other races just so they can get everything.

I actually think we need more locks. I for one would like to see more job specific armor and weapons, more racial gear would be a plus too.

Nope. They already got rid of Race/Clan benefits. I don't want them to remove what makes each race/gender unique. As it is, I wish every race/gender had it's own auto-attack/weapon drawn animations.

I love racial locks in games personally since it adds a lot to the immersion for me, but I agree that I'd personally see all genderlocks removed in the game (races, animations, gear) since it only adds more options, and I just dont get why all men have to be masculine and all women femenine. Heck, irl there's tons and tons of femenine men and masculine women

ye sure, i would love any of my non-lalafell-male chars to do the /psych emote of lalafell-male, so they all look like they're taking a huge dump right where they stande, great idea mate

-Height.
-Voices.
-Miqo'te's ears/tails.
-Au'ra's horns.
-Viera's ears.

I still find it confusing that the side asking for locks says they want it for the sake of uniqueness. I feel like uniqueness and breaking homogeneity is the entire point of removing the locks. Right now your character's "personality" is fully defined by your race. It's bland, limiting, and well just not unique. Even the devs know this because they won't play by their own rules. They give important characters their own personalities and mannerisms because it would look silly for them to be robots like everyone else. Some characters even define themselves by being the opposite of what they should be were they player characters (SCH job quests for example). Why can't player characters do the same?

A convincing world that feels alive should be important for MMO's, and part of that is recognizing individual diversity. The overly simple and heavy handed approach of making everyone of a particular race or sex a clone of everyone else in their group just feels like a really poor way to build a world.

It’s not really race uniqueness when everyone in the race does the same thing. I’d like some option in the personality. For example, the knee- slapping laugh of the hyur does not fit my character at all, I’d love to change this.

Wanting locks dose not mean we don't want to be unique, I'd love more features for each race, more faces and customisation, more personal emotes like each race fighting differently with the same job for flavor by having stylised emotes/animations.

However if you just unlocked everything you kill uniqueness as much as you'd enable it, sure people would come up with some cool looking things but it would also render the races pointless, what's the point of Au Ra if everyone can have scales, horns and tails? Why are there Roes if everyone can be super tall and buff? If any race can suddenly be a potato why do we have lala's?

I like the races feeling different there's no advantage to picking one and there shouldn't be, but I like there being flavor reasons for each and I'd like to see more, more racial armour and weapons, more emotes per race.
I'd also love to see half races, it could help add some of the cross over that people crave but it should come at a price to allow those half races to also feel special like how and Elezen Hyur would have Elezen ears and features but body type and Hyur height.

TLDR: Less giving everyone everything, more giving everyone more to call their own.

In theory this would be neat but I don't think it's worth the developers time to animate all these emotes. It's not as easy as just flipping a switch.

I would be all for more customisation, but I wouldn't remove race or gender locks, rather add something like personality to the character creation.
So animations would have slight differences in what they look like, but are still set to one race and one gender. Basically make one Miqo'te all happy funnsies and the next quiet. The happy one would still Jump around when they are celebrating and the quiet one would do something a lot more subtle when they are celebrating.

However I think that would be a lot of work for every emote on every race and gender

Keeping races distinct and giving them their own flavor is probably a common desire. The disagreement seems to stem from how it's done. Locking races to a certain set of emotes or something along those lines is at odds with a mixed society like Eorzea. It also squashes individuality for player characters which is especially noticeable when some NPC's are built around defying their own norms.

SE could give us more individually by ditching race locks and at the same time deepen racial lore by exploring it directly rather than only giving hints of it through things like restricted emotes. What if some NPC's reacted differently to different characters? Like certain elezens being less trusting of non-elezens? Or a wandering aggressive roegadyn that ignores smaller races, but would challenge larger ones in battle to show off strength? Why don't female miqote's express additional interest in male miqote player characters if they see them very rarely? I'd love to see details like this. They would diversify the races and make the world more dynamic without piling limitations on players. Similar ideas could be applied to racial clothing, which could be easily attained by the race it's meant for but require more effort on the part of other races. Imagine entire questlines where you might have to learn another race's culture and gain their respect by providing for them things that they specifically value. There are so many possibilities.

This would also be a nice feature. Race heights can stay as they are since they're biological. It makes sense that there are limits on those characteristics. We also already have mixed race characters in the game and Eternal Bonding can be between anyone.

Exactly. More would be better. Most people are unwilling to look past themselves and see the lack of options presented to their own character as a limitation, whereas it's in fact a source of variety.

I disagree with the OP. I prefer each race have their own special emotes or rather, their own take on the existing ones. I don't want a roegadyn running around using au ra emotes or a lalafell using miqo emotes. I like things as they are now. Not that this unlocking would ever happen, though, because the massive undertaking it would be to make all the existing emotes work for everyone would not be worth the time nor money. Time and money that I'd rather be spent towards new content.

First off, it adds flavor. I may envy someone else's animation, but so what? It'd be boring if everything was all the same.

Second, a lot of the racial animations are probably locked because of the inherent racial differences. The lalafell leg swinging chair /cpose only works because they're so short that their feet don't touch the ground while sitting. It would look insane for any of the other races. Same with any of the miqo'te/au ra amotes that involve the tails, etc.

Oh my god, can we please stop trying to make everything "equal"? Let races have their emotes, let genders have their unique emotes and poses.

No it looks like a proper world with many different races of people living in it intermingling and chilling with each other.As a world should be. Locks are there because the worlds uniqueness ignores the real world, thankfully.The real world sucks I wouldn't pay fifteen bucks a month to play in the real world. The Sims is right up that alley go play it. Don't get me wrong now, I'd love to not have keyhole armor and proper pants for my outfits sometimes but I'll take that hit if it means I get to play in a world that continues to exist alongside but separate from the real one.
