GNB as one big reference.

As everyone know from Gunbreaker description, their creators are Hrothgars, which is a first reference to FF8 (aside from the fact that we use gunblade, of course), where lion is a central figure:

- Squall's last name is Leonhart;
- His final weapon and limit break are called Lion Heart;
- He is Leo by zodiac;
- He wears pendant, ring and belt (not in original game in case with belt) with leo heads on this;
- Griever, the strongest GF, is a winged lion, also pictured on Squall's first weapon - Revolver (which we will get for collector edition).

But that's not all. Some skill titles that were catched during job overview are direct references as well:

No Mercy - Seifer's skill.
Demon Slice - Seifer's skill.
Rough Divide - Squall's skill.
Bloodfest - Seifer's skill.
Rough Divide & Blasted Zone - Squall's skills.
Continuation - this is probably "Renzokuken", will need to check the Japanese title of the skill. (UPD: checked. In Japanese version this skill still named "Continuation", written in katakana. However, "Renzokuken" itself has translation "Continuous Sword" and, same as 70 lvl ability, leads to few different skills after it, so it's still can be considered as Renzokuken).
Solid Barrel is also Squall's skill from "Dissidia Final Fantasy: Opera Omnia".

AF Gunblade name: Lion Heart (Personally surprised that they didn't keep it for last relic stage with original white&blue design but okay).

Also GNB battle pose seems to be based on Squall's victory pose but looks a little bit different so not sure if they are connected.

Royal Guard - Gladio's skill (?)
Female iddle stance - based on Lightning
Male iddle stance - based on Squall (Dissidia)

They're not exactly subtle about it.

Weren't there a whole tribe of firey lions somewhere in VIII?

Moombas, or Mambas, or something along those lines? Wouldn't be surprised if we get one of those as a mini-pet, if it's not ingame already.

Edit: Not to mention the GBR idle pose being, if a little more crouched, similar to Squalls victory pose. (Gunblade resting on shoulder)

Don't forget Eden, the secret guardian force extracted from Ultima Weapon.

It seems instead of a remaster, we're getting a job and lots of VIII references.

I mean considering what they're doing with the ff7 remake.. its probly for the best. Rather not trounce on the other 2 ps1 classics with action rpg gameplay and episodic DLC

FF9 got out easy, they just remastered the backgrounds and made the textures better

will the mount be another Lion though or will they go something different like a tiger or a wolf

Thematically speaking, it should be lion, but it's taken by PLD already. Maybe another type of lion, probably even Griever based? Can only wait until getting an achievment, I suppose...

Hey guys did you also know Gunbreaker's use a weapon known as the Gunblade.

This is a subtle nod to the main character in FF8 who also used a weapon called a gunblade.

I'm putting stock into the belief that Eden is related to FF8. FF8 uses the concept of seeds and gardens into the story, and then you have the "Garden of Eden" as a plausible reference as well.

Seems like the 8man thing is referencing poweeful entities from previous installments. Eden might be a location in this instance, but it could also be sentient.

They did it with Alexander so I suppose its possible.

As for the mount, I do agree a Greiver based one would be nice but I assume we will learn about it within the week of launch. I know some one is going to grind that thing out ASAP.

Could of sworn Yoshi made a subtle hint at fanfest that the name Eden might be familiar, but it isn't what we think?

Yoshi is a big Troll, so it could what we think, but also could be not what we think. XD

Wait? Gunbreaker has a skill called Bloodfest? But Chimatsuri is already the Ninja LB3. Meh, it's not the first time they've had similar name abilities I guess.

Yep, there was a very fast, eh, pic of skill when Yoshi-P moved on icons with cursor. And yes, those skills technically have the similar title. With different background, though.

That would be an interesting interpretation, especially with the fact there were three gardens and we normally have three raid tiers as well. Also would be interesting to see the flower garden where Squall and Rinoa promised to wait each other as, let's say, final location after raid would be finished (and also with possibility to re-enter this zone XD).

Also the female idle stance seems to be based off Lightning's signature fighting stance

Is male stance based on anything though? I can't remember if anybody stands like this. It's not Squall and Seifer at least for sure.

It's the /cpose for female. Normally they just use the Squall stance like the males.

"Heart of Stone" could also be a reference, as when you use scan on Squall, it says he's a bit cold.
Also, I think the move "Lightning Strike" is the ranged attack, which makes sense as Lightning could do ranged attacks (Using the Gunblade like a gun) in FF13

Somebody actually told me that "Heart of Stone" is even Squall's skill, but I couldn't find a proof. Maybe he uses it in Dissidia, which I didn't play, or in KH where he also exist? Not sure.
