Gunbreaker = GBR or GUN?
ShB seems to be what the majority uses. About the jobs, I bet on DNC and GUN.
Shadowbringers = ShB
Dancer = DNC
Gunbreaker = GNB till SE says otherwise.
I want Gunbreaker to be called “GUN”.
Can we not do this again.
Everyone I know is calling it "ShB".
The most logical abbreviation would be SB, but obviously this abbreviation is already in use for Stormblood. I'd blame SE for not foreseeing that, but I can forgive them for not wanting to pass up the most awesome and fitting expansion name yet: Shadowbringers.
I'm not typing ShB and I don't know if I can get used to typing shb.
I've been using 5.0 to refer to Shadowbringers. Using version numbers avoids any confusion.
So far I've been calling Shadowbringers ShB. SE has been using the same 3 letter abbreviations for jobs as FFXI did so I have no doubt Dancer will be DNC as it was in XI, and I kinda want Gunbreaker to just be GUN because I find it funny and straight to the point. I doubt it's actually going to be GUN though.
Shadowbringers: BB (bunny bringer)
Dancer: ... can't use the first one that popped into my head so... BC (bunny class)
Viera: BE (blood elf... er um... something... or go with... player bunny... um... nope...)
Gunbreaker: GB (gun bunny)
Hroththing: [] (what... there's a second race? Will enough people play it to even need a name?)
Shadowbringers is 5.0.
Shb, Dnc, Gun are what i use
Well it seems like people like DNC and GUN for the jobs, hopefully our community liaison is picking up on this.
As for Shadowbringer, it seems like shb is winning though i personally prefer SR to keep with HW and SB tradition.
A lot of people use ShB, I just use SH.
I see ShB the most
I really dislike "ShB" visually, and it's messier to pronounce.
From the alternate two-letter codes suggested here, SR probably works best.
My obscure personal-logic choice is still XB though. X = "Sh" = cross(ing dimensions) = cross out the S in SB to make a new acronym...
If Gunbreaker isn't "GUN" I will legit be angry.
I'm for ShB (I just prnounce it Shadowbringers in my head when I read it, really), and I guess I kind of started using StB for Stormblood.
I just call it SH.
I'm still using "5.0" if I have to abbreviate, or writing it out in full.
So far, the vast majority have been using ShB or SHB for Shadowbringers.
Dancer is most definitely DNC.
Gunbreaker will likely be GNB.
I hope Gunbreaker is GUN.
After all, Ninja is NIN and not NNJ, Astrologian is AST and not ASL. Warrior isn't WRR, and Samurai isn't SMR.
Then again, Paladin isn't PAL, Monk isn't MON, Dragoon isn't DRA, Bard isn't BAR, Machinist isn't MAC, Summoner isn't SUM, but Scholar is SCH, so you have 5 jobs that take the first 3 letters and 6 jobs that don't.
If we take a look at the two-word job names: Dark Knight isn't DAR, White Mage isn't WHI, Black Mage isn't BLA, Red Mage isn't RED, but Blue Mage is BLU, so 1 job takes the first 3 letters and 4 that don't.
ShB
Dnc
Gnb
GNB looks way more aesthetically-pleasing than GUN, GUN is meme-ish looking, can't really see them going with an abbreviation that silly (no matter how cool it'd be). As for Shadowbringers I straight up type the whole thing out or I'll get confused.
I agree, and have used GNB in most cases.
While there isn't a hard/fast rule for abbreviations, they tend to lean toward consonants over vowels. Looking at all the class/jobs across DoM, DoW, DoH and DoL, equalling 36, and their most common abbreviations. Not counting the five that start with a vowel (ACN, AST, ARC, ARM, ALC) There are a total of 24 that do not use vowels in the abbreviation, leaving seven that do, ROG, NIN, SAM, WAR, BLU, CUL, MIN.
It would stand to reason that while yes, there is a chance it would be GUN, it is much more likely it will be GNB.
SHB/DNC/GBR is what I have been using instinctively.
But forget the abbreviations for a second. What I want to know more what the job symbols would look like for the 2 new jobs. When will those end up being shown?
