Just wondering if this has been covered already or atleast asked to the devs. Would love to see HDR in this game or higher rez renders in some old areas atleast.

Yoshi stated that the cost would be substantial because when they did 2.0 they did the textures as you see them in the game, not HD or 4K or whatever. He stated that there is no immediate need but he sees the importance of it to be addressed in the future. He mentioned as well that around the time that 6.0 will release, they will have to consider whether to upgrade the graphics to remain relevant or begin work on a new game entirely.
i wish the game was more moddable so we could do it ourselves
I'd personally just like an opt-in HD texture pack like LoTRO offers, but I completely understand why it isn't likely.
Every time it comes up in a Q&A or interview they basically say it is not worth the time which may be true but is a bit unfortunate.
Anything's possible at this point honestly.
They don't change ARR areas because the future is their priority. They aren't wizards; they can't do every little thing the players want, so the future is what they choose to focus their efforts on. Why? Because the future patch content is where the profit lies.
Standard player behaviour is to login to any game that has a patch released, complete the patch content over a few days, then move onto the next game that just had a patch release. This is how they draw players back to the game, after which they have to find ways to keep as many of them sucked in as they can for as long as they can. That's how they keep the game alive and how they keep it highly profitable.
They could do one zone per patch as to not feel the need to completely redo ARR in one big go. I would be fine with a slow and steady progress.
Even after the PS5 comes out, they'll still support the PS4. FFXI didn't drop PS2 support completely till 2016, and XIV only recently dropped PS3 support. Due to game needing to be able to be run on PS4 and low end PC, I doubt we'll get any significant graphic improvements, most likely some minor lighting, shading and vfx upgrades.
To be fair, the typical PC user would be the next step before PS5.
Though neither will explain why the fronts of some pieces of armor look like borderline PS2 textures...
Give other teams' frustrations with the engine, I wouldn't be surprised if we only go to 7.0 before a new MMO is launched, this time with an engine that's more efficient and easily developed through. Luminous made for some great tech demos (I still badly want Agni's Philosophy to become a game, far more than I ever wanted XV to come out, for that matter), but it's in-practice record has been far from stellar.
I'd just like higher resolution textures and new shaders. Unfortunately, the longer they delay things like this, the worse the workload and community unrest is going to be.
As far as I can tell, this is the most graphically demanding mmo there is. I mean the game is stunning visually. Soooooo I'm a little bit confused. At least SE hasn't pulled a blizzard and left their tech in the past just so people on potatoes can play their game too.
Black Desert, Moonlight Blade, Archage, and a ton of others both old and new would like to say something about that.
FFXIV has good art design (mostly; there's a handful of exceptions where the transition from concept art to 3D model didn't turn out quite right imo), but on a technical level, it was dated at release, let alone now. While I don't expect a full-on rework, simple things like textures, shaders, and mesh updates for character models (especially our feet) would go a long way in future-proofing the game.
Some peoples PC are more crappy than a ps4. So like...always blaming ps4 is pretty stupid, lots of people seem to think everybody is running this game on a high-end pc when I think it was said most people run on a med to low end pc.
But yoshi said there is no plans to upgrade the graphics, I can't remember where I saw it but he thinks ff14 already looks good and with the PS5 they'll just give them some of the options PC has.
And I agree, coming from a non graphics whore, the game already looks nice tbh. I personally don't see a reason to upgrade the graphics when you look at other MMO's that look horrible.
People can play FFXIV on potatoes with onboard intel graphics. All they need to do is turn all of the settings to minimum and set the processor priority for the game to Above Normal. Obviously this means low FPS and difficulty processing large numbers of objects and effects. Resources that would normally go to processing network traffic go to processing the game's graphics. All of these things are not hugely noticable in normal versions of content.
People can play the game on a potato if they really can't get something better assembled for a while, such as due to their gaming machine busting, but it's risky to do high-end content on one due to the latency it adds, the low FPS and the low resolution that will make seeing some mechanics in Stormblood more difficult.
The point here being that people can play this game on potatoes from earlier this decade despite how visually stunning it is, and get away with it in most content. Don't underestimate just how much the ability to turn down settings allows people with old machines to play; SE have the old machine players covered. They obviously don't make content to consider their potato machines though, and it wouldn't make sense to since most people you meet have a great PC, a good PC or a PS4.
Visually stunning is pushing it way too far. Dragon Raja built on un4 for mobile looks 10x better than ff14. ff14 artstyle is great but the textures, clunky movement when walking and turning and etc is holding it back. Blade and soul is moving to unreal engine 4 this year and bdo just got a remaster. Also moonlight blade is drop dead gorgeous. Back in 2013 your statement would have held up but ff14 is not leading the visually stunning department anymore. Still a pretty game in certain aspects to be sure.
Hell, I can play the game smooth, with little issues on my run of the mill PC I put together. XD I am using a Dell PC, originally I3 CPU, from a couple years ago as a base with the below components added to boost capabilities. Even with this, I am running with the same quality gameplay and graphics as my PS4 Pro. And this is running at the highest possible settings.
GPU: 1050 TI
CPU: I5 2500
Not going to happen. We just dropped 32bit support. It wont be until they bring up minimum pc specs to match the ps4.
I think it is ok like it is now. The current setting allows play the game for a wide range of playerbase who play for example on low end laptops. Sure you can say "fuck them, they should build a PC gamer" but that's like shot on your feet if you want to have more players or keep the ones who are currently playing. Higher minumun specs = less players.
Of course, if they can do it by adding extra settings without increasing minimum specs then it is welcome.
While bdo looks pretty the game itself is total trash mechanic wise. Same goes for most of these small name online games that happen to have good visuals. As far as MMOs that are popular and and majority of ppl actually play, 14 beats them all visually and mechanically. I understand some people just can't be pleased but if someone is unhappy with the graphics in this game they seriously need their eyes checked lol.
Yea as someone who plays BDO they went all out on the looks and skimped on everything else. I cant speak for the other mmos though.

NO SHADERS FOR YOU!
Jokes aside it was 10 years before WoW revamped the PC models. Since FFXIV is only like 5 years old, I doubt we will see any kind of texture revamp anytime soon. On a personal level I don't think the textures are all that bad, They are better than a lot of MMOs that have come out.
Honestly.... increasing graphics is likely a very low priority since the return on investment isn't going to be that great. Consider the amount of time and man hours it would take them to do this for all the appropriate areas, then realize that character and clothing models will look out of place if areas are getting a graphic update but the avatars are not, then ask yourself are people quitting the game over graphics, and would more people start playing the game who are not currently if they invested that money? Also you have to ask is putting the time into updating the game's graphics worth the time that will be taken away from developing more playable content as a result?
Me personally, I'm 100% fine playing with older graphics as long as the gameplay is smooth and the content is engaging. Graphical quality isn't a high point for me, so I hope they don't spend too much effort on strictly visuals until that is starting to become a risk of making the game less enjoyable overall.
... which isn't even relevant, because game design is more subjective and wasn't being discussed in the first place. I'm honestly more surprised at people that don't notice the horrible texture compression or see anything wrong with it; I don't think I've played anything with this issue. Low res textures yes, but visible texture compression artifacts? Never, or at least I don't remember it.
This would have been true maybe ten years ago, but a newer game like FFXIV has more than enough polys to work with (excluding character feet). It's the textures that matter most, as does the overall presentation via shaders. I think you might be surprised at how many modern games you've played that have relatively low poly counts yet look anything but. Overwatch is one off the top of my head.
I'm not Eriane, but I've already read something similar and just did a quick search on google : https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme..._and_soken_at/
You can see here what he said about the graphics and why it won't comes now an probably not until PS5.
