Yoshi-P Gamer Escape Interview

Gimme dat stubble.
And the hair.
-
Huzzah! Ya'll will hopefully get your stubble!
I wonder when he comments on the genderlock outrage though, he did say they were writing up a statement after the Tokyo fanfest.
I suppose they won't because they want to keep their door open?

If they will give an answer, it will not be earlier than LL or 5.0 release, imo. They are too busy now.

I'm glad to see the stubble has been acknowledged officially! Hopefully we get it as soon as the launch of 5.0.

At best, we're likely to just get an announcement that it 'might' happen. I doubt that they will confirm that it is happening for a number of reasons, since adding the missing genders is a very large undertaking and something likely to be saved for the launch of a future expansion as a major selling point.
I'm also increasingly convinced that a lot of what is posted here, even in regards to controversies, simply does not reach the ears of the development team in the first place.

It's kind of weird that he wasn't aware that Western Fans wanted more facial hair options until this interview, especially with how vocal some people are about it... >3>

Perhaps there really is something to the theory that a lot of things get lost in translation. Or maybe things just don't get passed along at all. Considering he travels across the globe for Fanfest though I would think that he would be aware of at least some player requests.

I wonder if when they'll release the x-pac video for shadowbringers probly not till after live letter us month but we'll see.

I imagine the feedback gets passed to the appropriate teams and sometimes not through him until later. Like he approves of an idea from the team itself that the team may have vetted previously from feedback, so to him sometimes it's from his team and not from us. Just as a "maybe" example, a while back I had asked for a winged Paladin skill that had players hide in their wings for protection (battle effects weren't quite what I described, fair enough, but we did get a winged skill with an area behind it that protected lol). Now of course it could just be coincidence but if it wasn't then that skill was a thing Yoshida was talking about how he was a bit shocked when he first heard of it from the battle team.
It also might be he's just really good at playing coy (has an idea of what we're thinking but pretends not to sometimes), has level 100 speech lol.

Well, he is someone who actually enjoys the mmo genre. I'm positive he knows exactly what the playerbase wants at times but can't address it for corporate reason.
See his glorious facial expressions when laughing/cringing/sighing at a request.

Indeed :D
And I also agree there are probably many times where he would say something different if it wasn't for his position (not saying like it has to be 180 difference but I imagine a difference there is).

I think he was joking about that. I'm sure he knows all to well how many people have been asking for this for years. I just really hope it becomes a character creator option and not something that takes up a head slot.

Prob a good indication that he doesn't pay attention to western request unless presented to him in interviews or other in person events.
Not strange at all ... guy's Japanese running a Japanese MMO, he can't read or know every lil request made across the world.

facial hair is meh. most western players look like creepy old men so other than the west no one really cared about it. but more options is always good though.

To each their own I suppose. I would love to have some actual facial hair options like that stubble or some beards. Not really sure where you're going with the "western players look like creepy old men" thing though.

Yeah, that was an ignorant thing to say. Makes me think he was trolling, considering facial hair is not exactly unheard of in the east O.o

I...kinda want to rock that beard shown in #2 in real life. I won't lie. My beard has nothing on that.

Me too! that one is awesome! Add a Toshiro Mifune chin scratch and you're in buisness!

With a beard, you grow your own scarf.

It sounds like you have some issues to address and work through if you honestly believe that and aren't just saying it to be edgy. Facial hair comes in a variety of styles and the type sported by the Warrior of Light in the trailer is popular across much of the world as it conforms to universal concepts of conventional beauty standards.

I'm all for the 5 o'clock shadow on teh mens! I would've given them that before bunny outfits. Requests for each were about even, no? Less work to make it happen too. #makemensexy

For me facial hair look like dirt both irl and in games/arts most of the time. It's like... 0.001% of cases when I actually like how it look. But that's me and there are players who want to have these options, so why not. Having more options is better, so characters will be more unique and players will be free to express themselves in better way (after all, all of us try to create characters that matches our preferences, even if we do it unconsciously). And, in addition, since SE's WoL has it in SB and SsB cinematics, it has logic to add it finally in game as well.
-
If he's not just trolling with his "I wasn't aware of this; I'm sure we can do that if it was in the trailer"... I certainly hope they can do that and the programmers aren't curling up in horror because it was something unique for the trailer model, and they can't actually implement more design options for players.

The most interesting thing in the interview for me is this part about the music:
Quote:
Naoki Yoshida: The Warrior of Light’s adventure transcends the interdimensional rift and takes players to the First, but up until this point we have always journeyed within the Source. Our overall concept for the main theme had been “the singing voice of mother Hydaelyn,” but this time is different. The story is not about the adventures of the Warrior of Light, but the Warrior of Darkness.
The music that plays in the trailer is indeed the Shadowbringers theme song. However, there is one more theme song that will complement the song in the trailer—you will be able to hear it for yourself in game!
So up until now the theme songs have been Hydaelyn singing to us... and now we have a male voice singing to the Warrior of Darkness. Hmm.
-
This portion is what intrigued me the most "The answers to the questions I posed will be revealed through the Shadowbringers main scenario, and it is here we will really start to see the foundation of the FINAL FANTASY XIV story"

Yeah, it definitely feels like we're reaching the point in the story where we finally get the big reveals they've been vaguely alluding to for ages.

I want more beard options in general. Gimme a bushy beard SE! So i can join my fellow dwarves! https://media.giphy.com/media/13eeNKg29Hencs/giphy.gif

I was thinking about that. It occurs to me he may have been being a smarta$$ or sarcastic. That he has been aware of it for some time since we can be so vocal about things! He just seems like the kind of man that would be like that :P

Thanks for giving me a reason to re-watch the trailer for the 70th time.
Maybe it's an introduction to Zoidark in a way? "I bring shadow, I bring the night. Two-toned echoes ~something something~" Thinking about it now, I'm making it my headcanon and am just dying to get to the bottom of it.
