If they are as fun and charming as Dragon Quest XI's slot machines, I'm game.
I also wouldn't mind seeing Poker, any game that offers Poker as a side activity usually keeps me entertained for hours.
yeah, it should have been there day one.
I get the feeling it would be too close to IRL gambling and there might be some issues with that in some countries. The Gold Saucer is more like an amusement park than a straight up casino.
They are so much fun in Dragon Quest I would like them but I know I would have no MGP left lol! I think it would be a nice idea ^O^
I would love it for sure. They could make it like mini Cactpot that gives you something 3-5 tries with a guaranteed payout per spin. I'm not sure an unlimited amount of spins where you can actually lose MGP would work. Slot machines are extremely addictive, and even if they were placed in a room with multiple machines, the amount of people there would probably crash the place. That's probably why mini-Cactpot only has three tries.
I'm all for it, I loved it so much in Dragon Quest VIII, so why not ? :)
I can kiss goodbye my mgp if its unlimited tries thought lmao c:
I think the problem you run into with slots and gambling laws is the fact that they are mostly if not entirely random chance. True gambling. Everything in the Golden Saucer thus far has some degree of player control. If they delve into the area of pull a lever or spin a wheel and see what happens I think they will run into some snags. I'm not sure how DQ has avoided those snags as I haven't played it. Perhaps they are not as random as a traditional slot machine?
Is it gambling if you don't have to pay to play? What if the "coin" is time/setup effort? Or the spin is a reward for some other action? Trivia?
I'd rather leave anything involving slots and the like out of the game. From what I remember you can't add actual gambling to a game without making it have an 18+ rating now

Over the years, there has been a growing distaste towards gambling and the exposure of it to minors. Due to the unpredictable “risk-it-all” nature of the activity and the high impressionability of youths, more and more people have voiced their opposition towards allowing minors to partake in gambling and/or gambling-esque activities, with gambling in video games falling under particular scrutiny. As a result, the Pan-European Game Information (PEGI) organization implemented stricter guidelines that limited gambling to adult-oriented video games and rated all games featuring gambling 18+. While such restrictions are absent in other territories, many nations (the United States in particular) perceive gambling in video games as socially unacceptable, leading to the Pokémon games slowly phasing the concept out from Generation III onwards.
Edit: The reason why it isn't really gambling in XIV, is that you will always make more MGP than you spend. Mini cactpot you can't make less than you spend per ticket. In the Jumbo I spend a few hundred a week for 3 tickets, but I get a few thousand back every time it's drawn. You only lose MGP when you don't turn in your jumbo tickets.
Call me jaded.. but the "Did I win? Beep!... nope..Did I win? Beep!... nope..Did I win? Beep!... nope..Did I win? Beep!... nope..Did I win? Beep!... nope.." of slot machines isn't super attractive to me when there's not an actual possibility of financial gain. I understand the attraction in real life but.. MGP?Not so much. A slot machine I think would only encourage people to tape down a repeating button to farm MGP or somesuch.. right now you can't really bot MGP farming since everything requires you to actually play or is time consumptive.
I can see it being thematic though, casino and all. But I also can see the reasons not to put it in there.

Those were his words! FFXIV and... mahjong? Well, this was a request from the director and producer himself, so naturally the dev. team began to look into it. It required a bit of extensive investigation though, as FFXIV is a global game and regulations differ across regions.
Sure, it may seem like a harmless addition, but different countries and cultures have different perceptions on games that could be considered "gambling". This is why Yoshi-P's original idea to implement poker in FFXIV hasn't come to fruition yet, but he's thinking about putting it in one way or another...
To be honest, I don't really trust him to add anything to the game that's gold saucer related. It has suffered too much already, and Mahjong is about as dead as LoV because of how punishing it is. I wanted to learn how to play it but it's not worth the hassle. I wouldn't even trust that slot machines would be added to the game properly, let alone poker. TT's iteration in FF XIV is sometimes questionable but it at least has some longevity.
Thanks for the great reply, hadn't really thought of it that way. Need to think of a better idea to fill the time, maybe a treasure hunt...
