As tank can faster queue.
But, I got 17min queue in alliance raids...
What happened?
Alliance raids have a 1/2/5 composition instead of a 2/2/4
In other words Alliance Raids dont care if you're a tank. they got 24 other people to queue for so sometimes tanks and healers got to actually wait. its still far less of a wait than DPS so it's not worth complaining about really
Alliance Raid parties are:
1 Tank
2 Healers
5 DPS
Which means there's more demand for DPS than any other duties and half the demand for Tanks.
This is significant for Tank queue times, and often means DPS get the quicker queues, with Healers being more or less unaffected.
Additionally, the way Alliance Raids match up three full parties can lead to quirks in the matchmaking where, very occasionally, there's spikes and troughs where you might randomly be waiting an extra 5-20 minutes (depending on peak/off-peak) because there's so many variables.
1/2/5 means 1 tank, 2 healers and 5 DPS for each 8 man alliance party instead of 2 tanks, 2 healers and 4 DPS for a regular 8 man party. So there are only 3 tank spots out of 24 spots for each alliance raid.
To put it another way - when queuing most content as a tank, you just have to wait for one healer and two DPS to sign up before you have enough. When queuing for raid, you need to wait for two healers and FIVE DPS to sign up before you have enough. There are more DPS than tanks out there, but a difference like that is still noticeable.
In my case, to solve this problem, I do most content on my tank, and gear up my healers and DPS using the 24-man raids. That gives me fast queues no matter what I do!
Because you only require 1 tank for every 8 people in 24 mans. All other content requires 1 tank per 4 people. So tank demand decreases by 50% and DPS demand increases by 25%.
On a side note, I really wish the standard party was 5 people. It feels like so many people roll tanks just for faster queues but they don't actually want to tank at all. If 5 (light)/10 (full) parties existed instead of 4/8, there would be a lot less pressure for DPS to roll tanks.
The alliance raid roulette rotates between tank, healer and dps in need. It's the most balanced roulette in this respect because most other roulettes are rarely anything besides tank in need. Since tank may not be what is most needed by the roulette, you may find other roles working better depending on what it's asking for.
Alliance is the only roulette that have a fair rotation between roles in need. Maybe 1/2/5 was the perfect setup for everything 8-player from the start...
Not quite. Oh, it does reflect how many people queue with each role fairly well, but it is not the perfect setup since there are a number of 8-man duties where mechanics pretty much require two tanks.
For alliance raids it is different - you already have a total of three tanks in there, and there is no need of even more tanks than that.
Decreasing the number of tank needed for 8-man may decrease the number of people playing tank, which may make 4-man queues suffer even more.
It just puts more pressure on people wanting to try the role. Back when there were 2 tanks you had backup just incase anything went wrong. Now if you tank messes up it can sometimes wipe out your party which in turn can wipe out the entire alliance.
I personally dont mind it as the queue times actually gives me time to do other things while i wait for that 5-15 minute period. But for that new person trying to tank an alliance for the first time I have seen others in the chat be brutal towards them.
