Yeah, lala hate gets on my nerves big time but like, it's just a game. At the end of the day all it amounts to is an annoyance on my end.
Is it Sunday already?
Late night posts are certainly unique.
The Giraffes and refrigerators are all just jealous of the fact that Ul'dah, the wealthiest city in Eorzea is of Lalafell origin.
its 10 in the morning for me
I have no idea what you mean. We all love lalafel! Preferably baked with a side of ketchup. /j
But seriously, the lala hate is a meme (much like DRG), and the in-game quests dont help it much either. Most of them are portraid as scheming weird little capitalist perverts.
it isnt comparable to irl racism. in real life you cant take a potion and suddenly be white or whatever.
I guess people just know it's a joke, much like the dragoon thing. It dosen't mean much and I don't believe it has any hatred behind it.
Oh please lalafell give as good as they get pulling miqo'te tails and knifing taller races in the shins (or riding around on Highlander/roegadyn backs). It's also hardly new: it's a continuation of FFXI jokes about that game's similar tarutaru race being food or balls (which were even more rotond).
Besides, the game itself evokes this joke and runs with it, constantly mentioning in quest and FATE descriptions how "juicy and tender" lalafell are to Eorzea's carnivorous fauna...
So basicly how I understand it, as long as everyone does it, its okay. I see. Thank you all for your answers.
Been that way since 2001 when they where Taru-Taru's where everyone would "PUNT" them and eat them, they would eventually Cause mass Hysteria and bite peoples knee caps off, i guess its a different day and age now where even Lala's have to protest against Racism
The people who legitimately hate the race and discriminate against their players are crazy jerks who just want something to rally against. Because they're crazy jerks.
There are plenty of jokes made towards lalafell playfully in an amicable manner. Heck, Square-Enix themselves are responsible for much of the playful teasing. They even made the Vegetarian fish canon after fanfest, which was a joint venture between SE and the English players at the event.
The big thing is that it's fine to have fun, but don't discriminate against other players for their race choices. Picking fights with people for such reasons is pathetic and petty.
If you think racism is about how you actually look I suggest you do some more research.
"Racism" in FFXIV is OK because nobody forces you to be any particular race. You can buy a pot and be someone else immediately. It's a joke. Nobody ACTUALLY hates any particular race. Nobody persecutes and is able to discriminate in any meaningful way against the few visual options you checked off when you created your character.
People constantly make "your moms a giraffe" jokes about elezen. Or steroid jokes about Roegadyn. JOKES.
Have the SJW's really run the race card so far into the ground they have to resort to fictional races in games now to feel relevant?
YT tell us lala are potatoes, not our fault !
Introducing lalafell :

a lot of ppl just like to joke about it, for what ever reason. sure there might be a few who are serious about this (lol?), but if ppl get offended about such things, i am sure they can find the ignore button.
as for me, i do make lala jokes occasionally, but so do i do about other ff races and i cant take anyone serious who really gets offended by this... i mean you are not the race you play, you are a human behind the desk who plays a certain race in a video game. how can this really offend you? i can understand if you get tired of the jokes, but offended? how ever, for a lot of the ingame issues one might have with his fellow players, ignore option sorts most of them.
Is this about calling them Potatoes/Pre-fries/Idaho-dwellers/Tatertots?
Or is this concerning something completely different that i have not witnessed yet? :o
What a SJW response. Back in my days I remember when you could make a joke about a fantasy race and people understood it was a joke, more so when the company who created it started the whole joke..
Oh wait, I'm only 28. Wow...
Now I'm gonna go back to making skyscraper noises.
Because they tend to be very annoying players
I'm a lala and I say it's okay. I just gave you all lala passes.
I've only experienced actual lala-hate one time. I was still a lalafell (I go back and forth a bit) and queued into roulette as healer. I got Dusk Vigil with 3 others. I said hello and the tank immediately went "ew, a lalafell. Why do I always get lala healers?" and I, thinking it was a joke, quipped "because we're the best!" The tank continued to bad mouth me on the very first pull so I let him die *shrug* I asked if he was going to continue being rude, he didn't reply and we went through the dungeon almost like normal with the exception of the tank repeatedly trying to see if he could get himself killed by mass pulling, standing in literally every AOE etc. I kept him up because there were 2 other people with us not involved with his little fit. At the end of the dungeon, he said something to the tune of "well, you did your job. But you're still a sh*tstain for being a lalafell. You don't get my comm." That's okay, didn't want it anyway bub.
Other than that one incident, any lala hate has been liberally sprinkled with sarcasm and obvious joking tones. It does get to be a bit of an old joke though, the same as the DRG jokes get to be old after the fifty billionth time you've heard "luldrg" but every community has its proverbial dead horse. We just have a few more than usual ;)
It is not racism, rather a meme joke (as it existed after mog tribales quests too).
I still need to color this Fanart i did, so i have plenty to do. D:

I'm fine with jabs and jokes here and there. As long as I'm not being attacked as a person over it, I'm okay with being punted and/or baked over an open fire. (Only if you use proper seasoning tho, otherwise it's a no-go from me)
