Jobs and Classes - The Bigger Picture

I've compiled a list of the new actions learnt by jobs as well as the actions the jobs can use from their cross-classes.

Lots of people are throwing their arms up in the air at the recent announcements without really looking at the finer details, instead just going "wait THM gets abilities from PUG? WTF THIS MAKES NO SENSE!" Actually, there's a lot of sense to it, and yeah, I'll shut up now. Just wanted to share this nicely compiled list for anybody who is curious about who gets what.

It goes
Class -> Job

Cross-class abilities (what they do)

THM -> BLM
- Converts HP/MP
- Lightning damage
- AoE Sleep
- AoE Fire + DoT
- Ice damage, lowers enmity
Decoy (evade an attack)
Chameleon (enmity reduce)
Quelling Strike (enmity reduce)
Featherfoot (MP restore & evade)
Second Wind (instant HP restore)

All about the nukes, cross-class abilities help lower enmity from the huge
burst damage, and then evade attacks in case they do pull hate.

CNJ -> WHM
- Eliminates casting time (instant cure for example)
- Instantly restores all HP AoE
- Removes enfeebling effect
- Heal over Time
- AoE Damage
Rampart (defense)
Shield Bash (stun)
Outmaneouver (stun)
Sentinel (damage reduction)
Featherfoot (MP restore & evade)
Second Wind (instant HP restore)

Obvious - all about the healing. The cross-class abilites are less obvious, but make some sense - stunning enemies and increasing defense helps a White Mage survive in scenarios where they'd pull hate from curing (especially those massive full restores).

ARC -> BRD
- AoE Increases max HP and "magic effects"
- AoE Damage
- AoE MP restore
- AoE TP restore
- AoE accuracy increase
Cure/Protect/Stoneskin/Raise/Sanguine (support magic - bard is support)
Sacred Prism (aoes)
Resonance (increased range - useful as Bard moves around a lot)

Bard designed to "bolster companions" - essentially support class.
Cross-class enables buffs to this end.

LNC -> DRG
- Jump attack
- Jump evade and counter attack
- AoE Fire Damage
- Melee Weaponskill which draws-in
- AoE Weaponskill
Featherfoot (MP restore & evade)
Second Wind (instant HP restore)
Quelling Strike (enmity reduce)
Chameleon (enmity reduce)
Decoy (evade attack)

Designed to deal burst damage with crit hits. All cross-class abilities are aimed towards
helping the DRG evade attacks and keep enmity low.

MRD -> WAR
- Redirects damage to enemy
- Extra attack to next WS
- Redirects ally's enmity to you
- Increases Max HP and ATK (aoe), removes Sleep, and Stuns
- AoE Weaponskill
Rampart (defense)
Shield Bash (stun - unusable without shield though?)
Outmaneouver (stun - unusable without shield though?)
Sentinel (damage reduction)
Featherfoot (MP restore & evade)
Second Wind (instant HP restore)

WAR is designed to "thrive off enmity" and "turns attacks against the enemy".
Sentinel & Rampart aid this, with several abilities to Stun enemies.

PGL -> MNK
- Increases attack speed
- Adds kicks to auto-attack
- Stops enemy from moving/acting
- Converts attack to wind damage
- Twofold Melee Attack
Blood for Blood (dmg up)
Invigorate (TP)
Keen Flurry (reduce recast time)
Chameleon (enmity reduce)
Quelling Strike (enmity reduce)

MRD designed to marry offense and defense with the power of wind - associated with speed.
Cross-class abilities focus on keeping enmity down whilst allowing MRD to maintain
attack speed and damage.


GLA -> PLD
- Redirects a melee attack from ally to PLD
- Heal Over Time effect
- Immune to melee attacks
- Restores HP
- Melee attack Weaponskill (damage based on HP)
Sacred Prism (AoE buffs)
Bloodbath (absorb HP)
Provoke (enmity)
Cure (restores HP)
Support Magic Buffs (Protect/Stoneskin/Raise!) (buffs!)

PLD is all about maintaining hate and surviving.
Parry, HP absorbtion, healing, buffs and Provoke all aid this cause!

Nitpicks:

Outmaneuver restores MP with each block, which makes it somewhat more appropriate for WHM. (Nevermind. Gives TP. Only gives MP if you're 44+ GLA. Thanks Klive!) It also increases block rate a little.

I don't think you can use certain Shield-related Gladiator skills without a shield equipped, so they can't be used by WAR, may be wrong on this. (Shield bash and Outmaneuver)

CNJ, not CON

LNC, not LCN

PGL, not PUG

MNK, not MRD

GLA, not GLD

Very nice put together. Nice to see that at least some people understand what jobs are meant to do.

Edit: Also need to change "Pgl > mrd" to pgl> mnk so people don't get confused.

Now that I think about it, I don't think I've been a gladiator in 1.20. Can gladiators parry? I thought their shield passive chances to block prevented them from parrying.

I know Marauders are having a heck of time trying to parry without Foresight. Without Steadfast, it seems like parry chances are pretty low even when multiple enemies are attacking all at once.

Outmaneuver - Increases block rate and grants TP for each block made while effect is active.

You need the GLA trait at level 44 Enhanced Outmaneuver to get mana back and CNJ can't get that.

EDIT: I would like to add, most paladins will have raise equipped. With only three jobs able to use raise, you really can't leave it out.

Can only use cross class abilities of half your lvl so chameleon ( lvl 42) and keen flurry (lvl 26)will not be available to monk.

Where does it say that?

EDIT: Closest thing I found to say that is this.

Using other class-specific actions (number)

When characters switch to a job, they can only equip half (rounded down) of the other class-specific actions. For example, a level 35 gladiator can normally equip seven class-specific actions from other classes, but a level 35 paladin can only equip three.

oops yeah I misread it.

Some ppl obviously have never played a gladiator or marauder... First off, Gladiators CANNOT parry with a shield equipped, foresight is useless. 2ndly marauder CANNOT block, shield bash and outmaneuver are useless.

Dragoon can utilize blindside from PGL to increase the damage..I might choose it over Quelling Strike

PLD is also paired up with CNJ not MRD.

Each job is paired with the "Sub Class" needed to unlock it+ 1 other. So PLD is paired with CNJ and MRD

PLD pre req is 15CON.. but for cross class abilities yes they are paired with CON and MRD. As for the 5 abilities from them, as someone stated Foresight is useless since PLD wont parry with shield equipped. I would go with. (1) Provoke (2) Cure (3)Sacred Prism* (4) Raise (5)Toss up between Stoneskin and Blood bath. If Spirits within does a good chunk of Dmg.. them blood bath. If not the other ws don't do enough dmg to warrant a spot.

* Sacred Prism cure on the whole group gains massive hate. Also just imagine if sacred Prism could be used with the PLD HP recovery ability..

Oh right my bad. Didnt catch that one.

Wait a minute...foresight works with swords? Had no idea you could parry with a one hand sword in this game.

Sorry for my mistakes, I was just bashing this list out fast as I was in a rush (hence the shorthand). But thanks for pointing them out! And to those who mentioned parry being useless for Gladiator, again, you're right, same reason, was just typing what I read. Block may not work for Warrior but that doesn't mean the stun effects from the abilities won't... Right? lol

Outmaneuver requires a shield, and isn't a stun. It generates TP based on attacks blocked.

Shield Bash requires a shield. It cannot be used without one.
