It was a dream lol.
AF gear is supposed to be on par with double melded gear...perhaps slightly stronger...from what I remember.

Imagine losing a piece of AF gear that you can only get a from a non-repeatable quest...
Yeah, its not meldable and has been confirmed as such.
Shame its not - its a wasted opportunity big time.
This happens:
Forbidden meld --> AF Body.
BOOM
I lost my one time only drop AF body!
I demand you let us repeat the quest!

I just hope that AF gear will be upgradeable in the future then. It would be nice for AF gear to have quests, drop items etc. to upgrade them in the future, so that AF gear won't simply become obsolete in the next patches. :)
Exactly. For me this was a stupid waste of opportunity. If they made the Af materiable, then that gives it the chance to be blown up. Whys that a good thing? Well if they made it so that there was an interesting fight for some (or all) the AF gear you would have had to go back and do it again and again.
Lets be honest, those two dungeons are going to conquered with in a week or two by the mass of the populace. If they made the AF re-get-able, and you had to get it in interesting encounters/fights, we would have a time sink for a very very long time for people when people blow it up.
Just seems like a wasted opportunity for a good and healthy time sink for when people are bored.
Or maybe the two new dungeons have meldable gear that, when melded, is comparable to AF gear. Then we get the best of both worlds, repeatable content plus we won't all look exactly the same.
Don't want meldable AF, but then I don't want multi meld at all in this game :S
AF should be a special one time only thing, dev said they plan to make JSE craftable items later down the road anyway, which we can meld til we see fit.

Thank you, this is indeed what I was referencing. So it was not a dream afterall! I just forgot the "wont be possible" part...how's that for selective memory? Anyway, they ARE adding future gears that will have better stats than AF AND will be meldable. So That solves it:

Well as soon as that “new gear in future patches that will have better stats than job- specific gear with multiple materia attached to them” are added, I can’t see much of a reason for AF except to upgrade into AF2

OMG I just liked Vack’s post AGAIN O.O; something must be wrong with the world… Vack, I agree they should make U/U gear meldable including the dungeon drops.
This would be a dream come true, in which case – it probably won’t happen.

This is just a guess, but perhaps the quests that give you certain abilities are the same ones that give you pieces of job armor. We all know this games underlying code is a huge mess, so my guess is that the part that gives the ability is too difficult to take out of the quest upon repeating it.
Don't worry about it Matty - I am sure we will find something to be polar opposites about later. The planets align for only so long.
AF gear will be replaced by the next set of AF, and so on

Not only will there be crafted JSE there will be crafted CSE too.
My guess we'll see those go in at 1.22.
AF gear being better than multi-melded crafted gear is well-deserved. The fact that they are job specific isolates them balance-wise from everything else in-game.
The point is, when on the job you will always want the AF gear on - as each part will be the best in slot without dispute - or should be. However, they are limited to being on the job to be able to use, and thus every other gear in game will have it's use as well.

Main focuses of materia melding are to make gear powerful and to customize based on your preferences.
JSE are for jobs. They will be powerful beyond everything, because they are limited to jobs. Jobs have very specific roles, and thus customization isn't a focal point in itemization.
In conclusion, there is no need beyond "welllll... I wanna do eeeeet" to meld AF gear.
