Will we ever see a easy way to do this? Why is it not already in game? Game just seems alt unfriendly.
Because you don’t need alts, ever? Every class can be done on one character.
Not really alt unfriendly, but alt unnecessary. You can use FC chests to exchange between characters, assuming of course both/all are in the same FC. Outside that, the ability to send mail between alts has been often requested, and has (so far) always been denied because of the belief that this would somehow increase RMT. I am not sure how this is a thing.... but.... that's what we have been told. :)
I see that, but what's the point of even offering the option then? I would rather do quests then grind to level your other jobs.
I have 9 endgame alts guess I had better delete 8 of them.
And yes I think it's time they allowed friending our alts. I know there was talk of allowing alts to share housing at one point and that they were working on it but that was some time ago.
There was a glitch that allowed you to friend your alts but IDK if they fixed it or not, it involved DCing while going into an instance or something like that, you can google it if you want. Pulling it off lets you send mail to your alts.
IMO there's really no excuse to not let you mail things between your alts on the same server or add them as housing tenants. It really feels like SE made the game assuming nobody would ever want more than one character and that even letting you have alts was an afterthought.
Aside from the above glitch if it still works, your options are pretty much:
A. Use the MB to xfer gil by selling cheap stuff for high amounts. Or to xfer items but you'll need to be careful with how you price things so someone doesn't buy it while you're swapping characters.
B. Use a FC chest to xfer gil and items. This assumes your characters are in the same FC and have access to the fc chest to freely remove items.
C. Get a friend you trust to hold onto stuff while you relog.
I agree the game is really alt-unfriendly and I'd like to see us have the ability to trade between our alts.
As to not needing them, well a lot of things are unnecessary but still provide a lot of fun for people and a reason to stay subbed when you have completed all your goals on your main. You only need one mount for example and minions, glamour, hairstyles etc. are all completely unnecessary but I would hate to be without them as they add a lot of richness and fun to the game.
Considering having more than one character per world costs extra, I think those of us that do enjoy making alts are poorly served.
I believe the restrictions might have been an attempt to curb RMT but since a single-person FC is easy to make and circumvents most of the difficulties in moving cash or items between characters, I don't think there is any justification for maintaining them. I enjoy my alts but I enjoy the social aspect of the game as well and would never consider isolating myself in a single-person FC. It's a shame that this is the best solution available right now.
Would love to be able to give items to my alts.
It's grown tiring to help traffic items from my friends to their alts, and to ask the same of them for mine when we should just be able to send items ourselves.
I doubt it would have any significant impact. Alts are not efficient storage, especially with how small and clunky the mail system is, plus the limit on characters.
I just want to create a new set of gear on my crafter and give it to my alt. It shouldn't be that complicated.
I also wish our alts FINALLY could use the main characters house and other way around. I know they said they will work on that buts its been a long time now since they said it and never heard of it again )=
Thanks for your support (mostly) folks. There numerous reasons to want to trade to your alts, and I am glad that some of us see that. :)
Depends on what your goals are.
Alts do allow you to circumvent some daily/weekly lockouts, but this mostly relevant to crafting/gathering.
The primary activities are BST tribes and Custom Deliveries.
BST tribes mostly for the one time per expansion when they add a component of BiS crafting/gathering gear to the "crafting BST tribe." Each alt you have will increase your daily yield of the item so that you can either expedite your own gear or have plenty of extras to sell on the market board. A lot of gil can be made in the first week on these items (Storm Sap this expansion for example).
Custom Deliveries are an incredibly fast/easy way to make roughly 3k - 4k red/yellow scrips, requiring a minimal amount of crafting/gathering. Yellow crafting was relevant multiple times in SB for Gyr Abanian Alchemiks and Kingcraft Demimateria.
Lastly, having at least enough alts to cover all the specialists means no more scrip waste on Soul of the Crafters.
Uh oh... Is that casual racism I'm spotting? D:
I'd like to have it just because more options is always better and I don't really see the harm in it, one example for me is event items that are only equippable by the other gender. Why shouldn't I be able to send it to my alt which is female for example?
And some people just like creating multiple characters.
I have my main character that does everything, then alts for replaying story and a few chosen jobs each, plus they’re fun for trying out different styles of glamours. I don’t want to transform the one character into different races repeatedly, I want four individual characters.
Being able to share items between them would be fantastic, because my main character has high-leveled crafters and a lot more gil.
(Less likely but extra-nice would be the ability to share dungeon drops, since it’s ever so frustrating when Character A ends up with the item I be been wanting to get for Character B for ages... doubly so if it looks awful on the character who did get it. )
I relate to this post so hard. I have eight characters that I'm in the process of leveling up, because I don't like to change the look of my main on a whim (she's a defined character) but sometimes I just want to play as something/someone else. I would love it if they could all share the facilities of my house or if they all just had access to my retainers for shared storage or a shared bank or something along those lines. SE is not very accommodating of people who like to have multiple characters. I think it was to discourage RMT, but it does practically nothing to them since they have multiple accounts and can create FCs to do whatever they need to. It just hinders legit players. Time to remove those needless restrictions, imo.
Go to the FC chest, put stuff in there for your alt, log on your alt go to the FC chest and take the stuff out. Its not really difficult. Sure it could be easier like in WoW or Blade and Soul but it could be also a lot worse.
This is a can of worms though.
1) Requires your character and all of your alts to be in the same FC
2) Requires that your character and all of your alts have the same settings for FC chest access
3) Requires that there is enough space in the FC chest for items that you want to transfer (or that other ppl won't freak out if you empty a page to move stuff between alts AND THEN put the items back)
4) Requires that you can TRUST the other ppl in your FC with similar or greater access settings to not steal your stuff...
Giving RMT more tools to work with isn't ever a good idea.
Mostly irrelevant to them though since they just exploit FC chests to move stuff already.
As has been observed and reported a plethora of times on these forums, RMT usually have nonsense name FCs to go with their nonsense name characters. And since they usually run them through the storyline in Full Party groups, they already have enough characters to make a new FC whenever they want.
If you can't trust your FC mates you are with the wrong people buddy.
But of course someone had to come up with a shit ton of excuses when i wrote down a possibility of how to do it.
If you are not in the same FC with your alts, ask a friend. If you don't have one that you trust enough..again wrong people buddy.
If your alt is on a completly different server you are screwed in every game.
@Skivvy nice try to troll, if you think for a second you'll come up with a solution...or read what i just wrote in this post. And now don't come even with "What if i don't have friends?" :p
RMT already have the ability to freely move gil/items between characters. Letting you mail your alts wouldn't even impact RMT, they'd continue as they have been because it's easier for them to do it that way. It only hinders legit players who have preferences about whether they're in an FC and what kind of FC it is, and whether their alts are in FCs as well.
The amount of people leveling alts for crafting JUST to do the weekly custom deliveries would be crazy. Just think about it. 5 alts with 12 turn-ins each. If they got lucky with dual bonus they could rack in 15,000 yellow scripts a week, buy the crafting items and mail them to alts. There is a weekly cap on custom delivers for a reason.
Your grand suggestion was to use a FC chest to transfer goods, and tossed in a "It's not really difficult" for good measure. I responded stating I don't have a FC, which is true the last time I checked, and asked for additional options. But obviously I'm just trolling.
Hey "buddy" what if I'm a new player and I got absorbed into one of the mega FCs early on? I like some of the ppl in it that I run content with, but I've never met or interacted with over half the ppl at all. I only have access to the first page because of FC ranks, but so does every single other sprout in the FC.
The FC chest is a workaround solution to the problem, but it has many flaws (not "excuses").
... I think you're overestimating the number of people who'd go through that much trouble just to get access to more crafting items. Kinda reminds me of everyone who was super worried that the companion app was going to let people get a monopoly on the MB because they could pay to change their prices every five seconds. Not enough people want to do that for it to even make a dent in the game's economy.
I can't even be bothered to buy/sell those crafting items on my main, and I'm an omni-crafter. If I'm doing custom deliveries on my alts, it's to get them the gear.
If you are a new player you should be way to busy to play 1 character and hey if you liked these players and they like you they are probably trustworthy. So maybe ask them if they could trade you something onto your alt?
Its not that i already wrote that it could be better but whatever. You can come up with more scenarios to try to make my examples worthless, doesn't matter because what i've wrote are some options you have.
@Skivvy Where did i write you are trolling? Show it to me! Trying to put words in my mouth here hm?
Yes, please...
I have more alts than I can count. It'd be nice if they could help each other without having to bother my friends to pass items on their behalf ;_;
I suppose you'll get into the semantics of "try" implying that since they "failed to troll" from your PoV you didn't really say they were "trolling."
Just as you are not acknowledging that any of your workarounds for every scenario that involve MULTIPLE ppl are full of holes and inconveniences as opposed to a direct solution handled by ONE PERSON (which is what is being asked for).
