Actually, the amount of money we pour into our chocobo "fabulousness" will inevitably have an effect on how well they can procreate.

Are you really asking? We've already been told it's cosmetic only until 2.0, when they'll fight with us.

Before 2.0, they could put one simple ability to the barding at least. It could decrease the chance to be dismounted by enemies.
