Wasn't Astro not announced till the release of Heavensward?

Is a new healer still possible?

I don't really remember when it was announced tbh. Is a new healer still possible? Yes, anything is possible. But I would consider it unlikely.

edit: i was mistaken it was the tokyo fan fest, got them mixed since i have pictures from both on my phone, and the dark knight pics and astro pics were next to each other. while london general pics and tokyo pics were separate.

The leak mentioned Geomancer. Given that Gunbreaker, Dancer, and two new races are confirmed, that's likely the next reveal

Let's believe for a healer (hammer character) announcement at the live letter tomorrow...

Yoshi P did say to look at Gaia's hammer but I don't think he gave a reason. Wouldn't be the first time he hinted at something.

Would have been really nice to see a new healer class. Crossing fingers the hammer leads somewhere related to that.

Look forward to new Hammer job being a melee DPS job...

This is 100% false. No leak ever mentioned Geomancer. It mentioned Dancer specifically as a healer.

Astro was announced at fanfest. No job has ever been announced outside of fanfest except NIN, and that was a special case. There is no healer coming. The developers do not care about healers.

Geomancer would be a cool healer job! Hammers and/or Bells as a weapon would be neat. Dancer has always been a glass-cannon DPS/support job like Bard in Final Fantasy games, so all the dancer is healer talk never made sense to me.

I wouldn't rule out anything just yet but at the same time I wouldn't hold my breath. It is very likely we won't be getting a new healing job this time round. That kind of bums me out as out of all the roles a new healer Job would have been the thing I would be most interested in seeing but we are getting what we are getting.

Still a lot to get hyped about but it doesn't look like, for me, the jobs will be part of it this time round.

Astro was revealed well in advance of the launch date. First they just teased animations, then slowly more details were released about the job, as SE tends to.

Since I missed my chance to enjoy a full-on forum riot over dancer being announced as a limited job, perhaps the geomancer could be released as a limited healing job?

One thing to consider is that since BLU is limited now, they may add more to it for 5.0 and allow you to "choose" your role by equipping certain spells. In that way, we could get a new healer.

Probably wishful thinking, but possible.

It was at the same fanfest as machinist. I remember the hint was a 007 shirt, but we knew we had to be getting a healer and people joked about a gun healer, and then ast was announced and mch was the 'surprise' reveal.

This post is 100%. The leak mentioned two races, Gunbreaker, and Dancer, which is what we're getting. Geomancer was also mentioned on it, which is a healer according to the game's lore. You have no idea if a healer is coming or not, you're just going by your feelings of disappointment in the recent reveals. AST's reveal from abour four years ago doesn't tell me anything ion the current Expac.

We are getting a new tank because in order to make the current tanks more unique/relevant they will be moving to a dedicated MT OT setup. Gunbreaker will balance out the tanks for those roles. They are still trying to make all 3 of the healers unique and relevant but that is much harder for them to do. So why would they release a 4th healer in this situation?

That is kind of like saying it is too hard so they shouldn't bother. This isn't a new issue. They have had this problem since AST came in. They tried to introduce a new healer while keeping the same meta they created with SCH and WHM and it didn't really work and made healers a balancing nightmare. However currently they have shown no indication that they are going to fix the root cause of that, which is how healing works in FF14.

Fundamentally, healing is too powerful in this game and damage is too bursty. It creates a situation where there is little room for different styles of healing. Now I would love them to fix this to allow for greater variance in healing styles, but if that isn't going to happen, which is quite likely since they certainly didn't address it the last time they tackled this issue in SB, then I would prefer to at least get something new to the mix just for variance because otherwise we will never get anything new.

Plus we got BLU. That's 3 already, given how late into Stormblood and close to the next expansion it was released.

I can't help but think that if they didn't have to balance all the jobs for endgame, hyper role-specific stuff, then they could add in some sort of quirky healer-ish job or whatnot... But with the holy trinity being so rigidly enforced, AST is probably about as crazy as things are going to get. Hence, no new healers would be my bet.

Thing is most that wanted Dancer, (yes not all but good %) had wanted it as healer. So in small but unlikely chance why would they wait to announce a healer job knowing that they pissed people off?

If it's possible to have multiple DPS classes that do the same thing but look different doing it ("selfish" dps like BLM/SAM, BRD & now DNC buffs/support, etc) then it's possible to give us multiple healers that do the same thing and look different while doing it. They just won't because a majority of players are DPS who pitch a fit at the idea of not being catered to for one expansion.

I've already told my FC that I will no longer be using healer on DF for any content that requires randos. I will only bring it out to support my FC. Random DPS can rot in the queue for all I care.

An excellent argument for the expansion of Trusts/Squadrons.

I was very drunk considering the early hour and I shouted at Yoshida to take my money at some point, but I do recall it being revealed at London fanfest which I participated in but remember only vaguely due to the above mentioned alcohol-induced stupor.

So you admitted outright to a later poster that you were wrong about this, cool cool, but I also want to point out that you're wrong want Geomancers being healers in lore. They're not. They're essentially DPS conjurers with some AST beliefs.

That is totally not true. I was at the EU fan fest: they revealed Dark Knight, and teased a gun job with the 007 T-shirt. There was no mention or hint of Astrologian until it was revealed alongside Machinist at the JP fan fest.

On the subject of the topic title, it wasn't teased or hinted at, but it was definitely announced several months before Heavensward at the fan fest.

Edit: 19th December, 2014; half a year before release.

No there were several trailers for it well before HW launched

Well, it wasnt. Astro was revealed at the Tokyo Fanfest.

There have be a whopping two fanfests before this. Just because they didn't late-announce a job in those doesn't mean it still won't happen. But people just can't wait until the thing's over to start the vitriol.

Unfortunately not, as others have pointed out. We haven't had a new healer in four years and now it will be six before the chance of receiving a new one. 5.0 is just a giant let down at this point for me.

I hope they do something impressive with the changes they make to the current healers to make up for this.

It's best to not get your hopes up. The chances of them announcing something as big as a new job outside of fanfest is remarkably low.

I think AST was announced in the PLL after all 2014 fanfest. If I recall correctly.
Yoshida wore a 007 shirt in Vegas fanfest 2014 then MCH announced in London fanfest.
And his Batman shirt in London was later viewed as a hint of DRK (Dark Knight return), which announced in Tokyo fanfest later.
