We need an official St. Patricks Day Event

An official St. Patricks Day would work really well in Final Fantasy XIV lore. I can already think of how to implement it.

A Sharlayan NPC is mysteriously seen walking about Limsa Lominsa, and the adventurers are tasked with investigating the matter. It turns out that he seeks to bring tidings of Saint Coinach. A celebration about how the old Allagan Saint apparently drove the snakes out of ancient Alag.

The costume would be a leprechaun outfit, and you would get a wind up leprechaun.

What would you think. I know Little Ladies Day is a bit close to Saint Patricks aka what I would dub "Saint Coinachs Day", but it would be really fun.

Could be fun, but I don't know if the team has the resources to make more seasonal events with rewards people would want. As it is right now, they shuffle around which events get a full glamour outfits and mounts, which ones only get a minion or two, and things like that every year. Adding any more events would just spread that thinner.

Is St Patrick's Day celebrated in Japan? If not, it ain't happening. We get little ladies day, an exclusively Japanese holiday that means nothing to the rest of the world.

Hey now first of all, Saint Coinach was not Allagan. And second of all, all those serpents we see wandering around are the direct product of Allagan chimera research so they brought more snakes instead of driving them away! More to the point of the OP though while St. Patrick's is definitely a thing Japan celebrates cause they love their holidays (who doesn't?), it's not quite as big as lots of others, particularly the ones they've adapted into seasonal events in this game as well as FFXI. I wouldn't mind more events though I'd prefer they added the Feast of Swords as the distaff counterpart to Little Ladies' Day.

The vast majority of seasonal events are simply real world festivities with a few tweaks to make them fit into FFXIV. Starlight is Christmas. All Saint's Wake is Halloween. Valentione's is Valentine's Day.

All of them lean on the overly commercialised modern day elements rather than the traditional elements as well. In my opinion, it's just bland. I already celebrate them in the real world. It'd be a lot more interesting to me to explore something genuinely unique.

Didn't wear green and not a single drop of poison was drunk. More original events sounds great. I saw the former Rising items on mog station and the aesthetic is so pretty.

I love celebrating real world holidays in XIV. At christmas time taking part in the Starlight festival brings a smile to my face for example.

There has always been a soft spot in my heart for holiday specials. :)

It is, I was on vacation in Tokyo during March last year and there was a parade in Harujuku, I was pleasantly surprised.

I don't know about the rest of Japan, though. Tokyo is a big international city, so that makes sense.

Mm. That's my favourite of the seasonal events.

Most of those traditional aspects of whatever day are only acknowledged by pagans which isn't a huge demograhpic, so like everyone else you get the commercialized and commodified renditions.

Halloween is hardly irish at this stage. It has irish roots but in its current state its very americanised.

There are surely people that could do yokai watch only if they are drunk like on st. patricks day.
People complained and still complain like crazy about Eureka but on the other hand they do the yokai watch crap that is even more boring.

The main difference is that the association of St. Patrick's Day with Ireland is still pretty strong, as it's traditionally been celebrated in the US by Irish immigrants as a way to celebrate their heritage. Halloween, in contrast, has roots in Celtic harvest festivals and tales blended with the Christian holiday of All Saint's Day and associated folk beliefs, and isn't usually held to celebrate Celtic culture. Also, hynaku: we do have a beach-themed event already in the Moonfire Faire, which usually runs in August. I don't think we've had a surfing minigame yet or anything, but that's usually where that theme comes up.

Such a pity! The game is already T because of alcohol use, they might as well let us get drunk in game.

Yea this a major difference between St. Patrick's Day and Halloween. Everyone knows St. Patrick's Day is irish but most people outside of Ireland have no idea Halloween is. The other major difference being that the reasons for celebrating St. Patrick's Day are still very true to its roots, but this is certainly not the case for Halloween.

That being said what is interesting about how FFXIV does Halloween is that voidsent are directly involved in the festivities. Many of the voidsent in the game have names of figures from irish celtic legends. So in a way how FFXIV celebrates Halloween is closer to its roots than how people normally celebrate it themselves. I don't know if the in-game connection between voidsent, celtic legends and Halloween was intentional by SE, but I find it cool anyway.
