Cross Server Leap of Faith

Please remove the cross server function from the Leap of Faith GATE. The Gold Saucer is supposed to be a fun distraction from the game at large. What isn't fun is going into a GATE and seeing swarms of players all over the jumping puzzles. So much so that I couldn't see whee to go and for the first time abandoned the thing. It's not that I dislike the GATE itself, on the contrary, I do but not in its current state.

You speak as if this definitely going to be a thing. I'm pretty sure it won't be a thing. I'm pretty sure you are worrying over nothing. You may get a few extra people from other servers that are hopping to do multiple GATES if it is allowed, but it will be a trickle, not a flood.

I do wonder why we can see others inside. I don't think it would be difficult to simply hide everyone that isn't in your party.

I don't think that's what the OP means. I think they mean how it is currently. If you do this GATE, the people you see in there with you are from across the data centre (cross server), not just from your own server.

What the OP is getting at is it is too crowded in leap of faith. I queue in and see how many people are in there and leave right away. They need to drastically lower the max amount of people in there.

Do not see the jump. Feel the jump. BE the jump.

Would be nice if they at the very least made the GATE server only if they can't manage to keep up individual instances. Crowding can be an issue for platforming...

Except Eureka doesn't require precise platforming. Or at least not AS precise, or as much of it.

That being said, does anyone know HOW the game decides who gets to be alone and who's in the ant farm? I've seen any number of times where my wife and I queue in within a second of each other, and one of us gets an instance to ourselves while the other doesn't.

So this is purely anecdotal, but here's what I've noticed from personal experience

Any time I get into a private instance of Leap of Faith, I did the following: The instant the npc spawns, I'm immediately clicking on him. I click through the npc's dialogue as quickly as possible, and click on the entry option. When the queue pops, I immediately click my entry.

Now, if I delay any of that by even 1 second, whether because I wasn't paying attention when it spawned or due to a misclick, I end up in the instance with 9 million people.

But as said, this is anecdotal, and based on a pretty small sample size of less than 50, so there's probably more to it, and it may be due to something else entirely.

I'm guessing there's something else to it. You'd have to be the quickest person to click in on your entire data center for that to be correct, and while that doesn't mean you're wrong, it DOES make the theory difficult to confirm/deny.

Side note: I usually do that exact thing myself, but despite clicking through at a relatively fast (and consistent) rate, it's still iffy where I end up. Once earlier today, I thought I'd gotten the solo instance, only to see the shadows of other players landing behind me after making a few jumps and realize that I'd just given myself a fair head start on the parade. Again, that's not to say your theory is wrong (I've been thinking along similar lines myself), and it's possible that I just misclicked or delayed clicking for a bit without noticing, but it does make me second guess the idea.

And I 100% recognize that my thoughts on it (I wouldn't even go so far as to call it a theory) may be wrong. Its just the only connection I've been able to observe between getting the solo instance or the group instance, unfortunately. Though I don't necessarily think you'd have to be the fastest clicker on the datacenter, as we don't really know that only one person is getting a solo Leap of Faith.

Another thing to consider. You have 10 minutes to initiate the instance from when the NPC spawns. Once inside, you have 10 minutes to finish. So you could purposefully wait until the last minute before starting the instance. Even if you end up with other people, almost all of them will have timed out and/or left well before your timer is over. So in essence, you get most of a solo instance to work with.

This is true of course, but it goes back to the original question of WHY some people get to do this GATE solo and some don't, or what the frequency of solo vs group instances of it actually is.

Also, new incident report: I managed to click in really fast again a little bit ago and ended up in a solo instance right up until the very end. New people only started showing up right as I was jumping to the exit, which means I was alone in this particular instance for nearly 3 minutes. This would suggest that even solo LoF instances don't stay solo indefinitely, regardless of the conditions for initially getting one.

I also often had solo instances when I started the Gate right when it spawned.

I think the server needs a moment to open the instances. So when you click really fast there is no instance you could join, so the server creates a new one for you. It takes maybe up to 20 seconds between talking to the NPC and spawning inside the instance and that's the time where no instances exists. So everyone who talks to the NPC in the first seconds will get a solo instance, because there is no instance you can join. Everyone who talks to the NPC later will be thrown into an existing instance. So a few of the solo instances become crowded with people, but the majority of them will stay empty.


However, having dozens of people inside the instance really is a problem. Please reduce the number of players who are allowed at the same time inside the instance. It's really difficult to solve a jumping puzzle when you can't see the plattforms because of people everywhere.

I can't imagine it being a barren wasteland without a soul to speak of would be any fun. Seeing large groups enjoying content together is a lot better imo

i got into a leap of faith the other night, there were so many people in there that i was lagging real bad. was having a hard time landing my jumps because i'd jump, have 2-5 seconds of "hang time" as 50 people loaded onto my screen, then got thrown past where i was trying to jump as the game caught up.

Seen it full and seen it empty. There are very specific, very obscene hours when at most only one or two other people are there. Usually between 3-6AM. I don't always do this and definitely not continuously buuuuuuut...

That honestly sounds like a hardware problem. Are you on PC? Because smoke shouldn't be coming out of the backs of those.

Does this kind of thing happen in other crowded events?

I just came back from quitting one of the main reasons was I enjoyed playing at the GS, most of the stuff in the GS right now is entirely unplayable because of the amount of people in there and leap of faith is unplayable completely the trophies don't load for like 3 minutes I spend more time lagging out and failing jumps than I do having fun. Please for the love of god do something and fix at least leap of faith it's actually one of my favorite parts of this game.

Leap of Faith is currently... broken. I've ragequit multiple times because frankly, I can't find the landing area. Not only that but I have to waste 2 minutes just to let the trophies load, only to get more and more infuriated as I CAN'T SEE the platforms.

Hate it when it's the most common gate too.
