DX error 11000002
So recently ive been getting a more frequent 11000002 error. I used to get them maybe once every few months if that but now they happen multiple times a night and its gotten to the point i cant ignore it and need to fix the cause of the problem before i go insane. It was a fairly sudden jump to where it is now, as in the errors didnt gradually get more frequent - one night it just kept happening.
Ive got a high-end PC and have updated everything i can think of - my DX version is 12, latest drivers etc.
Ive tried playing in DX9 but couldnt stand more than 5min of it as the graphics were unacceptable to me even on ultra its still much worse than DX11, and i shouldnt have to settle for DX9 as my system is more than capable of 60fps @4k on max setttings (and does get that when the game isnt crashing)
I have returned all my hardware clocks back to stock which has made no difference.
I have the game capped at 60fps if that matters
About the only thing i havent done is completely reinstall the game because me delightful Australian internet is literally from 0.03mb/s to a whopping 0.33mb/s on a good night, and i dont feel like spending a week downloading a game for a chance that it may or may not be the problem.
Someone will have to tell me how to pull logs from my client/pc if thats what is needed.
Cheers

I have also tried running it as a bare program with nothing in the background and it does not make a difference. my CPU sits at 45deg with netflix and FF14 going on max on base clock. My 1080ti also doesnt break a sweat running it. I dont THINK its a hardware issue but if i knew what it was then i guess i wouldnt be making this thread lol

Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.
Can you submit a Final Fantasy XIV system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'
When did this first start happening? Do you recall anything changing/updating on your PC that coincides with this?
We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

Hi Einmimiria
Here is the system info requested. I did not notice any updates i have done to cause this - not manually anyway not sure if something has updated in the background i didnt catch. Ive had them for a long time, but they have always been a random one off and wouldnt happen again for a month or two - not enough to think there was any one thing causing it. About a week ago they just started happening again, but more frequently - several times a play session. As stated i dont THINK its a hardware issue as my PC is fairly new, doesnt break a sweat playing the game on my settings and has been doing it fine for a while before this started happening.

I recently had the same problem as did many others as demonstrated by the numerous post on these forums. I troubleshot by by turning off everything but the game. this will require you to do what is known as a clean start. If the game functions properly start bringing up individual programs until you discover the cause or, as in my case, it continues to work when you have only that which you need. Only have what you absolutely need in the start up menu. A number of programs that were initiated originally handled by Startup I now run manually. I believe this is where my compatibility problems. I also recommend that you disable any overlays that you have running. Despite what people will tell you this is not a hardware issue. Good luck.
-
I have this issue right now and one of my characters is unusable at this point. It completely crashes the game when I load the character.
Other characters work fine. But when loading this certain character in game ...it crashes with that error. I have reloaded my Nvidia drivers, as well as the entire FFXIV game.
-
I don't think it's hardware. I have issues with a certain character. Others work fine. It appears to be a game back ground service used for saving state or something.
-
@Rizon, i have turned off everything bar FF14 and still the problem persists.
@lorealin its not specific with anyone character but in saying that its not predictable. i might go a few minutes or a few hours without it randomly crashing. A new nvidia driver just came out yesterday im in the process of installing now.
I dont think its just FF14 though. I was playing postal 2 the opther night and noticed once every now and then itd crash with error that looked like it was DX related so there may be something more sinister in my software lurking somewhere ill have to figure out...
-
Bios update and GPU driver update done just now, no effect still got a crash 15min into game just idling in limsa
-
Another nvidia driver released today and updated to, re-freshed windows with latest ISO copy off microsoft website+updates reset all FF14 settings through launcher.
Ive done timespy 4k extreme stress tests on the GPU to make sure there isnt any weird stuff going on and nothing out of the ordinary happened - still dont think its a hardware issue.
Problem persists.
Only other option at this point is to grab a fresh copy of FF14 and if that doesnt fix it then i have nfi and give up.
PLEASE HALP
-
Good afternoon and thank you for the reply.
I apologize for the delay in our response to your concern. Have you tried changing the size of the window to borderless fullscreen or fullscreen or windowed mode? Sometimes changing the window size can help with crashing. Have you tried disabling any of the monitors or doing a cleanboot? Open the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC.
Hope to see you online!
-
So ive bit the bullet and completely redownloaded and installed the game from scratch........STILL PERSISTS
Ive literally reinstalled windows, all drivers, all programs and still this bloody problem persists. What else can it be??
-
@Dynratygus
I have tried windowed, fullscreen borderless windowed (which is what i always play on) and fullscreen and crashes in all 3. I have done clean boots and still no change. Ive tried it on the other monitor and no change, the monitor i play on (primary) is only 6 months and is a 40" curved 4k monitor if it helps.
Im at my wits end here surely its going to be something small and silly but at this stage what HAVENT i tried? list is getting awfully small by now
-
I just wanted to add in here that I'm having this exact same problem. I was able to play flawlessly with DirectX 11 and maximum settings for two hours before the most recent maintenance, no error 11000002 or anything. But once I tried it the next day, it started giving me this error in about 5-10 minutes after starting the game, and even forces my PC to reset at times. Tried it in DirectX 9, textures and models in game start freaking out and twitching green before the game shuts down, or my PC.
I've even done a full factory reset of my PC, including reinstalling the game fresh, and it's still giving me the same issue. Even attempted compatibility mode as suggested before.
-
Thank you for the update LYagami.
I don't know all of the things you tried, so I apologize if you've tried some of the things I'm going to suggest.
First, when you updated your graphics card drivers, did you do a clean install of them? This is an option if you install them manually.
Try deleting the files in the 'My Documents' folder (My Documents > My Games > Final Fantasy XIV), then restarting the game. This is not deleted when you do a standard reinstall.
Try setting compatibility mode to Windows 7. Right-click on the ffxivboot.exe file and select ‘Properties.’ Then select the ‘Compatibility’ tab and choose Windows 7.
Are you overclocking any part of your PC?
You mentioned that you've experienced crashing in other games. Did this start happening around the same time as the crashing in XIV? Do they crash in a similar way?
We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!
-
@Einmimiria
Yep i did clean installs of all my drivers. i WAS overclocking my PC but have since reverted back to factory however no changes. I had a stable clock on the CPU @ 5ghz with the GPU still being at standard factory OC, ram was also only bumped to 2666. Ive ran a few diagnostics over all the hardware to be safe and no problems have arisen.
I have however tinkered with a few settings in the nvidia panel and i may have found a solution, i havent crashed for a few hours so far but ill wait a few solid days before i call it...
For those who also have this same problem i have a few suggestions: disable ALL overlays. Exit completely out of steam, discord etc any third party program that stays open in the background even if not 'open'. I saw a lot of other people say it fixed problems for them while i was browsing the many other forum threads.
With regards to nvidia settings, open manage 3d settings and click program settings. Add in FF14 here if it isnt auto added in and for antialiasing mode select application controlled. I suspect that possibly FF14 and nvidia were having an argument over who chooses which antialiasing mode but now im forcing nvidia to let FF14 decide.
Ill post back here if i do encounter this still but its looking like im fixed. Hope this info helps others in the same boat.

Alright, so I did a bunch (and I do mean A BUNCH) of tests, and it seems like the issue is with Chrome (or rather, part of Chromium).
Here's the big issue: Discord and Streamlabs also use Chromium, and WILL crash your computer if used while playing FFXIV, which also might indicate that the issue isn't with a Chrome Plug-in, but with a segment of the Chromium code itself.
Totally shutting down Chrome by right clicking on its icon in bottom right taskbar to close the process apparently fix the issue for me, but it means I can't run Streamlabs either.
Also, asking around to friend, I also have friend using Chrome who don't have that issue, so my guess is that it's not "just" Chrome, but chrome with another factor that I haven't been able to nail down.
Also salient: hardware acceleration isn't turned on in my Chrome browser.
I also have to run tests to see if the issue happens with Brave (which also uses Chromium), and other streaming software.
EDIT: a bit more details: I've been able to reduce the occurences of crash by running FFXIV in borderless fullscreen, and Windows 7 Compatibility mode.
It's not 100% perfect, and I still get a lot of issues if I run a video or a streaming app on my second screen, but at least I went from a number of crashes a day to one every other week.

Spoke too soon unfortunately, has happened a couple of times now today. Is a little better if anything but i cant rule that out as a coincedance either.
Bugger

Also @Einmimiria the only other game to crash was postal2, which did not behave in the same way. I only mentioned it on the off chance that it was related, but the more i think about it the less likely it is to be related in the way they happened and how they happened

So last night i went probably 4-5 hours with only 1 crash, now i just logged in after booting up and straight away after 15 seconds i get a crash. Back to a broad range it seems. 'Escalated' ticket still sitting with SE with no reply for days now. ....
-
Once again i went another night withuot a single crash in 4-5 hours, now tonight its decided to crash twice in the first 15minutes. Still no suggestions from SE
-
my question is, why is this only localized to a single character per account? that just seems weird?
-
So i had some spare time on my hands, i took the PC apart and checked everything, reseated it all and ive gone 2 days without an error but its looked this promising before, but its an interesting coincedance if it is

3 nights perfect so far. No idea how the 2 are/can be related but it looks like this is the fix for me *touch wood*

Thank you for the update LYagami.
I'm not sure why this method would have fixed it unless something became partially unseated. Regardless, if the issue resurfaces, please create a new thread.
This thread will be moved to the 'Closed Concerns' subforum as the issue has been resolved.
