Discord/Voice integration in game.

How would you feel about Discord or some sort of proprietary voice system in the game? This would be similar to World of Warcraft's in game voice system or EverQuest II's.

This could help people overcome harder challenges by offering a better form of communication for more difficult encounters,

Discord should fix their furry corruption first :^)

jokes aside I would welcome it, but it might cause people to kick other players if they don't want to engage in the voice chat during raids. That could be a problem.

This will be difficult due to the fact that you have to combine both PS4 and PC/Mac clients to it. Building a bulletproof VC system that works with all different kind of network setups is kinda hard and I can imagine that SE has better things to do.
Also Discord is now the pro forma standard for that.

We may see an increase in PFs stating "Mic Only" or only certain languages. Granted the latter one happens a bit anyway like in the Japanese datacentres (you will often see "JP only") and occasionally there are "Discord Mandatory" as opposed to "Discord Available" postings but really there isn't much content in the game that actually requires voice comms to begin with.

When would voice comms be available, only in parties or only in duties? How could the GMs monitor things said over mic? Unless they are allowed to record everything, which I doubt anyone would agree too plus it would take up a lot of unnecessary data. There is also the possible language barrier as well in some instances (the chat auto-translate can only do so much), and it needs to work for console users. So a few obstacles there that would need to be considered to make it even viable.

I am personally a veteran online gamer so I completely understand the importance of voice chat but if we were to make it an officially supported feature then there is a chance that some players would start to demand that others use it just because it is an “official feature”.

Maybe for PVP or Ultimate, but it's not needed for anything else. Only makes for a faster learning process.

The best I can see is voice chat integrated into the companion app. Which even if it was, it is still an external app, of which discord is a better alternative. I think the one advantage of companion app chat is the ability to integrate the chat directly with LSs and FCs without setting that up, but even with that, Discord would be more popular.

While i use Discord, i'm absolutly not a fan of ingame VC's especially not when they automatically throw you into voice with your random party members.

The hamster servers can't even handle Eureka and Fates and you want something heavy and complex as an in-game voice server?
It won't happen.
If you are on PC then it shouldn't even be a problem.
If you are on PS4 then consider buy an PC or use Discord mobile.

It's like giving people more means and/or reasons to report others. Players have more freedom in vc on what they want to say. Adding this would kill that freedom, and resources that SE can better use in other things.

If I want to vocally speak to people, I'll use Discord.

I don't know if FF14 really needs their own voice server because for example people in other mmos like wow will still link their discords and not use the in game one when they do pug raids.

If people want to use Discord they can already do so.
I would hate for voice chat to become de facto required for anything in the game, so as far as I am concerned it is a good thing the game has no direct support for it.

Voice chat is a resource hog, even in the best implementation. There's just no going around the fact that it either needs to transfer a lot of data (bandwidth hog) or convert the voice on the fly into smaller sound data (hardware resource hog). If it was mandatory then it would make the game unplayable for those that have computers just powerful enough to run the game.

Not to mention, money spent on servers for it to not break the game would be better spent on hardware to upgrade the actual game servers.
