BLU Single Player?

I thought that the blue mage was touted as a single player experience? Am I remembering something wrong? Someone please explain to me how to farm 80% of the level 50 spells without a group when almost every boss/primal is immune to doom/tail screw/missile and you're still made out of paper with Mighty Guard up in full i130 gear? A single player class that you can't actually play without grouping up with a full raid party?

I don't get it. I must have missed something here.

Its Solo as in: It sits in the bin by itself all sad because it can't do anything and people forgot about it after 3 days when the content ran out.

Joking aside the solo part of BLU is carnival, that you dont even need all the skills for, the rest of the skills are just for "Fun". (I'd have more fun if I could use those skills in regular content but i digress theres another thread for that.)

Really disappointed by this as well, BLU should have been much stronger than it is (i.e. able to solo dungeons / hard mode primals) ... as it is, BLU basically feels like a charity case for bored 70s; please Mr/Ms 70, can you farm <insert primal> for me?

... Someone really needs to have a talk with Yoshi P about things that are NOT FUN (1. Mindless / repetitive grinding!)

Think they really lied. Don't think blue mage can solo any duty. There just to weak and don't have a raise ability. Who every from SE that said could solo duties they should fired for lying to everyone. Just hope this is last limited job they ever add. Still think it is weakest class of all.

Even if they never intended to convey that BLU could solo their way through any content they weren't specifically locked out of, then I think that it was at least a reasonable assumption based on pre-release information that all BLU content---including spells---would be accessible through solo play. That the reverse is true seems like an inexplicable design flaw given the exclusion, not only from DF, but even solo content like squadrons. Given that BLU being a limited job was bound to aggravate those who wanted to main BLU through DF like any other job, it would have made much more sense to at least appease the more solo-oriented folks who enjoy crafting, squadrons, hunts, beast tribes, and other content where grouping is largely optional. BLU could even have made a lot of the open-world content relevant again---in fact, it almost did for approx 50% of the spell-learning process---but instead BLU seemingly only caters to an incredibly thin slice of the community who always have friends on hand to carry them through content. For the rest of us? It's now almost impossible to unlock the spells that are secured behind ex trials and the like... and yet Yoshi is happy with how it turned out? Seems like just a lot of wasted potential to me.

BLu has always been like this. It's literally a collection of funny, worthless, broken, and a bit of everything. It's also completely worthless until you aquire the more powerful abilities (some we don't have yet, and some negated by the design of FF14 to accommodate the lowest player skill levels). and it lacks the specializations needed to perform specialized roles properly. Instead it learns a select set of overpowered spells that transform the job into a literal one-man-army. And, every bit of that is a feature and not a bug.

The current implementation is sadly lacking the game-breaking part, so it just lacks the other half of its appeal. TLDR, if players cannot turn Gilgamesh into a frog during "a battle on the big bridge": its literally has only half of its appeal, and shows Yoshi-P's reluctance to make a job that completely ingores party structure and turn serious content into a Montey Python sketch.

BLU has not "Always been like this", its been a different caster but not necessarily this wacky nut case job, or a one man army. I've since played 8 and blue magic is a limit break in that game, so it is quite powerful, much like other limit breaks are. Some of the other BLU's I didn't mention, such as their bravely default iterations function as a role in the party much like any other class too, they just learn skills differently. Blu certainly did have some situations where it could do some stupid things to hard enemies, but so could normal jobs as well. Blu always had a spot IN the party, whether it was supporting it like 5, or dishing out damage like in 7

It's totes the majority my experience with it though. It's always like it was just either way too useful not to have or really broken (Quinna).

Yoshi p needs a reality check if he thinks this Blu job is good. I just don't get why everyone or 90% of the community don't like it and yet he is not caring one bit. Just errks me how badly he made blu in this game. Solo job..... Wtf. It's an mmo not single player. And saying how players will kick you if you don't have certain spells that's just nonsense. If you play blue mage and you know you need spells that's YOUR RESPONSIBILITY, or make it so you need the spells to use duty finder not hard. He should've experiment on a new job that isn't big like Blu. Totally ruined it

Grouping with other players is not the only way to have an impact on them. When you converge with other players on a particular target/objective, that's online multiplayer. When you buy and sell goods through the market board or direct trading, that's online multiplayer. When you use the MSQ/lore of the game as a launching pad for roleplaying with other players, that's online multiplayer. When you play minigames with/against other players, that's online multiplayer.

But hell, even if someone's favourite type of content features is almost or entirely devoid of interaction with other players, so what? That an MMO provides many and varied ways of playing with and/or against other players is one lure, but so is the ever-expanding nature of the content, the enjoyment of having a character that changes and progresses over *really* long spans of time compared to other games, etc. Nowhere is written on high that all content must be group content, and anything else is an offence to the divine MMOverlord.

In the context of BLU specifically: There would have been nothing wrong with making BLU a solo job (as was advertised). I, and many others, would have enjoyed that. Of course, it's likely that an even greater number of people would have enjoyed it if it were available for Duty Finder activities, but the problem is that it doesn't cater to either of these constituents at all.

Purgatori hit the nail on the head, as is it literally appeals to neither party df nor solo.

The job is weak because it doesnt have what takes it to....well.. you know, even be called a Blue mage.
Blues are supposed to be able to tank, heal, melee or nuke, kite and do ranged, all of it.
The job is a joke unless they plan on giving it its entire and own job role in the game. Classing it up as a DPS is NOT ‘only’ what Blue mage is, and even then ranged caster?
But thats why its failing and requiring parties. Its just too weak to solo because its limited as a dps role. “not the level and content limit”

I feel like alot of folks get its failing due to limitation but not exactly seeing the entire picture, limited yes, because blu isnt just a ranged caster dps. If they really want this job to work solo, it needs to be capable of all 5 roles, not 1. Yes all 5. And lets be honest, is that NOT what a Blu is known for anyway? It very much so is.

You cant solo in the current content setup unless they rework Blu to ACTUALLY be a Blu. So it’s really confusing as to why SE is finding any pride in implementing this job.

Flashy meaningless story content? Why did we need a useless job added to take part in that.
SE is trying to glamour the name blue mage out just like theyve done with moogles and chocobos, this needs to stop. Blu isnt something we want to buy your little statues of and hang posters about SE so stop the idolizing crap. We wanted Blu because its real core is versatile and fun. Not EVERYTHING is about gd idolization. Gg SE, GG.

If Yoshi kept the above, in MIND, about what a blue IS, then both solo, and party, couldve worked. As it stands no matter what he does, unless all 5 ffxiv roles can be used by Blu, the community is going to continue to see this job as a failure. Even when content limits are removed.

Another hole Yoshi P dug for himself is that in order for a Blu to use all five roles, and, you guessed it, be a Blu, they need to have different gearsets, 1 for tanking, 1 for melee, 1 for nuking (as is current set), something Yoshi eliminated in 2.0 because he thought it was ridiculous. Well... that “ridiculous” is biting him in the ass at the moment. No matter how much they play off like they dont already know it.

Like...SE....You just cant add something like Blue into the game without those in mind, it was a severe short sight. If they want to restrict gear swapping mid battle, that can work, pre planning required ya know? But not being about to wear beafier tank gear, or dps gear and switching it “out” side of combat is a major no no for Blue.

In short Yoshi stepped into a puddle of....stuff, he had no business being in.
For those only slightly familiar with any of this, or came from wow, younger, etc, this is like you getting a new car, and it doesnt have wheels, engines, windows, ac, or a radio ok?

Now imagine youve never seen a car before, so ofc you think you can turn it into something great. Well ok, thats whats happening right now.

BLU implementation was not good. I'm sure that many people leveled it but how many are actively playing the class? How many got all the BLU spells? Create a class that can't use Duty Finder and then put spells on Primal fights? Now that the initial rush for BLU spells is over, with all BLU parties in Party Finder, how does one go about getting them? Create a PF that no one will join? Join an existing PF as a BLU and hope they will carry you?

It honestly sounds like you people would'nt be happy unless blue could literally solo hard group content. blue mage is already OP compared to any one class - but it needs to always be as good as or better than 5 players?

The solo job that can't even do solo content like squadron dungeons.

Great solo content btw.

Well... yeah...

If you tell me you're making a job designed specifically for solo play, that is limited to content that's two expansions old, then I expect that job to be pretty damn OP when playing said content.

No it's roughly as powerful as a regular level 50 job but it can't use DF.

...

Mighty guard + thousand needles + white wind, will let you grind your way through some of the lower dungeons...but it's not fun, nor does it feel powerful. Past that, it just sits in no mans land. It's not good enough to really "solo" content, and it's filled with weird restrictions on grouping...you sort of need to make up your mind. It would be a really fun character to have for farming, if it was actually strong enough to do it. This job really had me scratching my head as to what they think it's suppose to be/do.....

Kimahri was great after fighting elemental orb in macalania and getting lv1 sphere you can take him through lulus end path for flare and all the aga spells early as fuck

After getting level 1 sphere. He could access flare and all the aga spells by macalania forest

I lvld and farmed all speels for blue and the abyssal chance to get these skill and the factor that the old content with 8 blue is still almost impossible to do. Most people did end with a lvl 70 getting them through this shit and I would love to see the job as a caster in raids. And for that to happen they just need to tone some stuff and he’s fine.
