Is this going to be a thing for the Viera? Female only? They didn't show any male Viera and that makes me sad...
I hope no. There was some artwrok of male viera in the first fanfest.
Edit: found it

I hope they allow male Viera as well. It's odd that they only highlighted the female models. Have they typically only shown the female versions (or one version in general) in the past for a new race? I don't want to be too quick about my judgments, hence the inquiry.
Extremely disappointed. Very lazy and pandering.
Definitely thought SE was better than this with their track record of opening up past races to both genders. I guess the male bunny suit annoyance wasn't enough for them, now they'll just get badgered every Q&A session and fan fest about this instead.
I still hope there will be males... somehow. Else they won't be receiving my fantasia money.
These look like Hyur with bunny ears. Yikes.
Very bland and uninspired if you ask me.
I could see the appeal. They have different physiques, after all.
Sure looks that way, and it fits the lore they've set up.

Really unfortunate choice on SE's part. We're supposed to be past this.
They look amazing. The animations looked awesome too. I suspect the race will be gender locked. Don't think that will be a popular thing but I suspect they'll be showing another race real soon.
I'm not a fan of gender locked races. They're usually very tacky and blatantly catered to outright fan-service. Even if the race isn't gender locked it's pretty clear that male Viera will effectively be overlooked. There's only a handful of male Miq'ote represented by NPC's and male Viera are described as even rarer.
I don't have an issue with outright fan service when it's done across the board. Yet so far there's no sign that that'll be the case.
It's particularly odd when one considers that a lot of people asking for Viera did so because they wanted to play male Viera.
Rather hoping they're just holding out on the male Viera for the Tokyo Fanfest, but that would be utterly foolish to do and thus incredibly unlikely... I had hoped they had put their gender locked races behind them.
we kmmo now lads
Now I'm usually hesitant for insults when it comes to developing but..
If this is true, SE, you are incredibly stupid and lazy.
"Wah wah this hyurclone is too hard to make it's gonna be our last
OH and lets recreate the failure, because we have the memories of goldfish, of 1.0 and gender lock it! That way we only have to do half"
They said more info on Viera will be revealed at the art panel since the person heading it was the one drawing the race. So likely male will be revealed there.
Don't misunderstand: I get that a majority of the player-base play female characters; that's evident by the amount of female-friendly armor sets (lookin' at you Omicron Chest of Healing). I can see how, from a business standpoint, pandering to the lotioned up hands of that fanbase would be a lucrative endeavor. There are, however, some of us who play male characters. I will wait for more information before I start punching baby pandas out of sadness.
Missed the keynote. Anyone have screencap of Viera?
idk why people say they look like hyur with bunny ears, they look exactly how viera is supposed to look.
Plot twist: Viangaa wasn't a joke.
omg why dont you all wait for tokyo fanfast? what the heck is your problems? Overreactions, y'all gonna look super dumb later.
What a rollercoaster for everyone this will be lol. Clan and gender info still unknown hehe. Still wondering if the male might be the lion like race as suggested from a "possible" leak (could be wrong or not in the right context).
there faces are very similar to face 1 and 2 female elezen imho

I REALLY hope the crowd doesn't let them get away with not mentioning them.
I really don't want this launch to go through without them knowing that they're making THE SAME MISTAKES as 1.0 again if they infact they didn't even bother making the males playable.
It's looking like female only to me. It's be in poor taste to not have a male model made already if they were going to be male and female. Especially after they showcased all female Viera.
Explain where the overreaction was... specifically. I want to see quotes. Thus far, people are mentioning their disappointments if this goes live. Given that there was no art displayed, nor models show, we have no information either way. Speculations are to be expected. Most of the posts here are even giving the benefit of the doubt: "I hope they don't do this...", "If they do this...", etc. From the looks of it, you're the only one who looks dumb thus far.
This is going to be an unpopular opinion, however, I can see why they would gender lock the Viera race. This would be because very few male Viera actually exist and they live in seclusion the majority of their lives. It would break immersion and their own lore to have a ton of Male Viera running around.
They learned from 2.0 and didn't want to recreate new mistakes like catboys and femroes.
They didn't mention the lack of males at all, which makes me think at Tokyo they're going to be all, "Now some of you may have noticed that there were no male Viera in that trailer! Well that's because [Male Only Race]!"
It's possible that they just didn't have male Viera assets ready yet, but I feel like they would have said so, if that were the case.
I feel like they might just be teasing us *very* hard. They pulled the Viangaa joke, and they didn't actually tell us it's a single-gender race. Either they know the fans would riot (in which case why on earth are they doing it) or they're deliberately holding off. I hope.
Honestly really hoping they give us male viera. I've been waiting relatively patiently since the concept art back when Heavensward was announced. It's been something I've been eager to use and i've been really supporting of SE's decisions as of late, considering they had said they wouldn't do gender locked races way back in ARR because of the backlash they'd gotten about the Mithra and Galka, so what did they do for ARR? Miqo'te and Rogyden, both similar in stature but giving male and female versions to 'classic' races.
Honestly. I'm okay with the female viera, they look good. And I can see the lingerie being the equivalent of the linen underclothes like how it's unique across each race. despite being the same item. But as for males? I'm really, really hoping they don't hold onto the information until Tokyo. I'd rather they break my heart now than to have to wait weeks to finally hear a no.
